What is the dumbest handgun you have ever seen? Not counting the derringers/micro derringers, cause we could go on and on with them. But really rediculous handguns. I'll start it off with this one, I think it's a handgun in some sort of nitro express cartridge:
Big Boomer I want to see all the wierd ones...bring it on. |

Ok, I guess I just found an even more rediculous handgun myself. .600 Nitro Express elephant gun round stuffed into a revolver:

whats dumb about large handguns? It doesn't have to be large handguns...that's just what I posted. I'm trying to find this old 4 barrel pistol I saw when I was a kid. |

The dumbest handgun?
The dumbest would be that first 7.62x39 pistol.... |

That's it! I knew it - Mark Twain said it couldn't be trusted (he owned one) and that you'd "aim for a Buffalo and fetch a horse." I see them now and again for about 7-800 |

I actually think the Judge is cool––if someone else were to buy it for me!
CZ SP01 with that stupid bayonet gets one of my votes. |

Not dumb, just the most overrated. |

A COP. Compact Off duty Police. A .357 magnum, 4 shot derringer with rotating hammer and about a 20 pound trigger pull. I bought one new about 25 years ago and for the most part, it was a safe queen. Hell of a close range persuader, but very heavy as it was solid stainless steel. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn more than about 15 feet away though as the rounds came out in an expanding 4 corner square. If you knew which barrel was going to fire next, you could aim it, but there was no external indicator. I think I paid about $220 for it new, and after it made it's debut in Battlestar Galactica the used value skyrocketed. I had the original metal presentation case as well. I sold it for about triple what I paid for it. |

Who was it made the over/under derringer in .45-70?
Ah yes, American Derringer, who else? |

It gets my vote too. I think all the other pistols in this thread are awesome! |

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd_images/lgprod/DBA-890_A.jpg Not the gun itself, but the "handgun bayonet". Why do you think knives aren't good self-defense tools? Considering the number of people that are murdered each year with knives, I don't understand how you could have that irrational belief.z |

judge I completely forgot about the Judge! This thread is over. The Judge wins the stupid contest in both intensity and volume. |

I was going to say the Judge, but people beat me to it. It's not such a terrible idea for pests, but the way it's marketed as being "the greatest thing EVAR for self defense" is beyond ridiculous.
|
|
I vote for the judge as well.
And, yes, that first 7.26x39 pistol was a pretty stupid thing to do. |
|
I'm surprised by all the hate for the Judge. Just becuase something isn't suiteable for self defense doesn't make it dumb. By that logic any .22 pistol is dumb. I do agree that their ad campaign is misleading, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any use for the gun.

It's not a good shot gun, .45 colt's keyhole out of it, it is heavy for CCW, it's bulky for a carry gun, low capacity, .410 loads for self defense suck and it's a Damn Taurus. There is a better gun than it in any category you want put it in. The ONLY reason it's is popular is it's ad campaign. |

A .22 is practically free to shoot, accurate, recoilless, and can be used for hunting, training, and practice. The Judge is none of those things. |

Judge sold as a SD firearm (judge is a good snakegun, but so is a 50 year old S&W AR-24 (with every industrialized nation producing a CZ-75 varient, is a Turkish one really needed?) CZ Skorpion Some of the weirder AMT and Wildey big-bore guns. Also, .380ACP guns that could EASILY be chambered in full 9mm, but were never adapted to that purpose. (Beretta Cheetah/Browning BDA .380, CZ-83, Walther PPK/S, Bersa Thunder, Sig Sauer P230/232, Colt Pocketlite). Would it be that hard to scale-up the gun 1/8 and reduce mag capacity by one? The Beretta/Browning probably would not have to be scaled-up at all. |

In order to function with high pressure 9mm ammo, they would have to incorporate a locking breech or delay mechanism. |
