Of course "glock 19" is always the answer but unless you want to PM me the link to yours for sale for $287, save it for another thread.
I went to one of my LGS' today to fondle some "cheap" full caliber pistols. I would like to keep a loaded pistol in my detached garage (not looking to have that discussion either).

I handled a SCCY gen 2 CPX-2, Taurus PT whatever 9mm, EAA .357 (3"?), Diamondback 9mm, and a Used XD 9mm.

I do own a FEG Hi Power clone but that's turning into a project gun. Maybe another one of those is the answer.

What's the best price on basement 1911s these days?

I know G22s can be had for $370ish but for the sake of argument, let's say $300.

Canik/Tristar?

Thoughts?

I carry around my FMK 9C1, which is a compact 9mm, and only bought that for $340 I think. Not gonna win any competitions with it I'm sure, but I wouldn't with a Kimber either. It's a good, simple home defense pistol IMHO.

Ruger p95. 300 almost exactly. and flawlessly reliable. also works as hammer, boat anchor, and door stop. and it still looks as pretty.(lol, but it WILL go bang every time)

It is a great gun, but I don't believe they make them anymore.

Used P89, always goes bang, hi-cap mags are cheap. Can get it in Stainless. Can find in the 200-300 range.

Centerfire Systems has quite a few for $300 or just a little more.

Sarco has a few.

I would hunt down a S&W 3rd Gen such as a 5906 or 4006, or maybe a 2nd gen 659 etc.

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/88389/EAA+400426+SAR+Arms+K2P+16%2B1+9mm+3.8%22

SARS Arms (Imported for now by EAA - European American Armory) K2P 9mm.

15+1 (ignore Buds description).  It's a CZ-75 knock off to a point.

Made by Sarsilmaz (Turkish company - they make the weapons for the Turkish Armed Forces) company has been around forever.

I dare you to find a bad review on this pistol.  I've had mine 3 months -and price at Buds has jumped $30 since  bought mine.  I have friends who have Glocks and every other type of pistol and three of them have ordered a K2P.

Comes with case, 1 mag, bore brush and rod.  I ordered 2 extra mags for $40 through Buds.

I already have 1K rounds through it.  Easy to break apart, easy to clean, reliable PROVEN action. EATS everything I feed it.

Ate 100 rounds of cheap Tula 9mm no FTF or anything.  Was firing reloads at one local range, 100 rounds, no problems.  Friend's brand to RI Armory 1911 9mm had several FTF.

Everyone who has shot my pistol loves it.

I will likely pick up another before they get more pricey.  They also make a slightly bigger 45 K2P for a bit more.

Google "K2P reviews"

FYI  - not knocking Glocks, they just don't feel good in my hand...

i have an EAA witnessp 9mm.  2 misfires in close to 1000 rounds.  both times it was the next bullet not getting fully pushed into the chamber.  accurate as hell too.  and it shoots anything i put in it.

You can find keltecs at or under $300 sometimes.  P11 or PF9 is a lot of gun for the money.

Kahrs can occasionally be found on sale around that price, they're gtg in my book.

Smith and Wesson SD9VE are pretty decent guns.

There's this too...

Say what you will about the Taurus, but I've had one that was dead nuts reliable and family who has had no issues either.

Cheap bastards!  How much did you spend on your TV?  Build a 4 bay bowtie TV antenna, cancel your cable for a couple of months and buy a decent gun.

As mentioned above,
SW SD9VE

They only thing I would do is put night sights. It takes M&P Night sights.

Agree with the statement above, don't go cheap. You get what you pay for.

Buy a (gun I own) because it's better than (all others), no matter how much or (more often...) how little I paid.

Canik 55 Stingray (CZ-75 clone) would be a decent choice for $300.

[#18]
If that used XD9 was under $300 I'd buy it without hesitation unless it was somehow damaged in a manner potentially compromising its function, or the bore was destroyed.

I wouldn't recommend one, but I'm considering getting another DB9, the one my wife carries has been flawless since it's warranty repair, having to have a gun repaired shakes my confidence reading the many accounts of failures others had doesn't help. Very small for a 9mm, very light, quite accurate, usable sights, decent trigger for something so compact.

Have known a few people with Keltecs that have had no issues.

You clearly missed the point. I have a few glocks, 1911, that Hi Power, Smiths, multiple CZs, etc. "Beater guns" have a role

And I have an antenna, don't spend a dime on TV every month

If it was just to stick in your detached garage, get a High Point.

Bersas are pretty good, and inexpensive, though climbing...

Buy a beater Glock at a pawn shop.

I was going to say this also. You can catch them locally on sale for $300 NIB. I almost bought it just because of the price, but I already have an M&P. That's about as good as you'll get for $300 new, IMO.

At that price point if you are going to bet your life on a pistol the Smith and Wesson SD9VE can't be beat.

IMO, a much better choice for a self defense gun than any of the foreign made clone pistols and you have the full weight of S&W customer service behind you.

Used S&W 3rd Gens are your best bet.  Built like a tank and VERY high quality.  The aluminum framed variants carry well.

Used Glock 22/23

FEG Hi Power clone.

As for new, S&W SD, and later Sigmas are good cheap gun.  But not the most forgiving and you will fight the trigger.  Utterly functional though.

Ruger 9E.

I think it's amusing how everyone loves Glocks - Don't get me wrong, they are solid pistols.  Personally they just don't feel comfy in my hands. But it wasn't too many
years ago that people were bad-mouthing them "Why buy some foreign made pistol?".

Here's an auction for what appears to be a very lightly-used Beretta 92D police trade-in for $294.00.  Comes with three (3) original Factory Beretta 15rd magazines and the original box, along with the original Factory-installed mid-2000's-dated Trijicon night-sights.  NOT MY AUCTION, I don't know this seller from a can of paint!  Gunbroker Auction # 435373828

I just wanted to show the OP that there are very high-quality, full-sized 9mm handguns out there for around three bills.  Good luck.
