I was just wondering if anyone else has enjoyed their 3" Model 85 like we have ours (3 in my immediate family)? I know several folks have the 2" variants but I'm just not a 'snub-nose' guy.
I'm not normally a revolver guy but my cousin picked one up about six years ago and it's performance lead both my father & myself to each purchase one. My father chose the high polish stainless variant which is absolutely beautiful and both my cousin & I have the blued variants. The SS was in the neighborhood of $230 and the blued were around $180.
Performance from our 85's have been outstanding, we did lighten the triggers a little but this almost std. procedure for our 'fun' guns. Accuracy is excellent, the 3" barrel length has the perfect feel and perfect point of aim IMO. With our reloads (std. & +P semi-wadcutters) they'll destroy the bullseye, factory ammo tends to spread somewhat but my load of choice is Win. 130gr. SXT +P.
IMO this pistol is a good choice for personal protection, vehicle carry, training someone who isn't used to firearms, etc. I think this pistol is an ideal choice for women or children who are just learning about firearms. This is a perfect gun for someone who has never owned a firearm but wants to get one gun that he can practice with, use for personal & home protection or later on carry.
The only negative comment I have is I wish they would install a orange insert in the front sight blade or offer adjustable sights. The fixed sights are of course adequate but w/ revolvers I prefer adjustable.
Taurus actually discontinued the 3" barrel length for a few years but I picked up a catalog the other day and it is listed again. I'm sure prices are higher now but hopefully they're not too bad.
I just thought I'd a brag about a good little gun, I think others would enjoy one too.
