Strange request I  know, If anyone can take off the right grip pannel of their railed sig and take a pic you would be doing "Uncle" a great service.

I have all the info I need on 229R's in 9mm, but if you have anything other than a 229R in 9mm it would be great.

TIA

Luke

PS If the gun is issue and taking the grip off violates agency policy, "Dont do it, wouldnt be Prudent"

UPDATE:

Looks like its 2 seperate issues.

The wear on the "Tit" on the inside of the frame is a result of milling the slide out for a DAK triggerbar/hammer package.  It looks horrible, but doesnt effect the functionality of the weapon.

The trigger bar issue has to do with short triggers and lots of rounds and not getting the pistols into the shop on a regular enough basis to replace the TW-25 inside the grip. (We dont let folks take the grips off due to spring loss issues)

Not the answers I wanted or expected, but im still getting a P220 just as soon as I get my tax refund.

Camera battery is charging.  When it's done I'll add my P220ST w/Rail to the thread.

Thanks Got_Guns,

You are having the same issue as us.  IE the trigger bar is scraping on that "Tit" on the frame.  That Tit is not on the non railed guns.  We are having major issues with bent trigger bars because of this.

Im guessing that the tit is related to torque on the frame when using a light, but have not talked to any Engineer type folks up in NH.

The trigger bar is getting so bent at about 2000 rounds that you can barely keep the bullets on target in the DA mode.

2000 rounds can be one trigger bar a week in some circles............

Can you explain a little more. I am not sure exactly what the issue is. I do not see any rub marks on this pistol. Also, this pistol is fairly new with not many rounds through it. Also it has never had a light on the rail.

Here is another sig of mine. A 229R DAK. This one has never been fired, except at the factory.

Inside the red circle, is there not an area that on the DAK that is not showing wear?

Edited to try and make more sense

I've seen this issue somewhere before, likely over on SigForum.

psywar,

If you did not point it out, i would have never noticed it. The 229RDAK has no wear at that particular spot, however, the 226R does show wear.

I have only had about 100 rounds through the 226 and no issues. What exactly is happening with your pistols. Do they not fire? Or does the trigger just get real wacky?

Have you contacted Sig about this premature wear issue?

Thanks for the info!

ETA : reread one of your posts, would still like to know what Sig has to say about this.

My 229R (.40) has that wear spot but my 220R does not.

In DA mode the trigger pull gets progressivley worse as you fire more and more rounds, somewhere between 1500 and 2 grand it gets to the point that the force needed to pull the trigger effects accuracy.

If you cycle the pistol by hand you can see the trigger bar dip but not rub in the area.  Obviously when firing live there is contact between the trigger bar and this "Tit" which over time puts a kink in the trigger bar.

My boss sent an email to our rep this afternoon, but it being a holiday weekend, not expecting to get a reply till monday.

Im just collecting all the intel that I can prior to Monday Morning when everyone will be jumping thru hoops, hopping mad and all the normal post Easter maddness.....

Thanks AZ-K9, I will search sigforum for more info,

Both my pistols exhibit this, IIRC it was not a problem before, although the 226 is obviously worse off than my p220. Recoil makes the trigger bar slap the frame. I wonder if you wind up with a new batch of trigger bars that maybe were not properly hardened the first time?

Upon closer inspection of my P220ST (which is lacking the 'tit') my trigger bar is fine, but there is a rather significant gouge in the frame beneath it..

I second what K9 said; sounds like you have got a grip of bad trigger bars if they're bending/breaking after just a few thousand rounds.  This pistol has many many thousands of rounds through it without the trigger bar being replaced.

Here's a closeup of the damage..  Again clickable for the 'huge' size image.

Thanks AZ.

So the mod in that particular forum says that this wear is normal, and another member says its normal but he then states that it doesn't happen on all sigs.

I would have to say that this is not normal and that if it affects the operation of the pistol than it is a problem.

Will have to see on the trigger bars.  The 229R's are right now only in use by one particular special team, and I got one also since im considered the resident gear queer.
Ive replaced the from the factory parts with ones out of our stock.  Probably going to be shooting till I cant feel my hands on monday to see if there is a difference in the lots.

My personal 229 has this same problem, its not in the same serial number range as my issue gun, and the frame is German made, not US made like the issue guns.

I think the problem is generall self limiting, when the trigger bar wears enough room in the frame no contact is made.

That said, I am going to contract with MagPul to produce a Sig trigger bar recoil buffer....it's patent pending.

Any update on this issue--as far as contacting Sig?

I have the same wear on my 229R .40S&W (about 650 rounds fired).  It has already worn as much as it can out of the small raised area in the frame and is now contacting a different area of the frame.  I haven't noticed any issues yet.

Let us know if there is any official answer regarding this issue from Sig.  I'd also be interested to know if this is also happening on the 229's as I have one of those on the way.
