Are there any other rail hand guard options for the Pap 92, besides the Midwest Industries rail?
|
|
Very few options other than the MI. Apparently an Ultimak top rail will work with modifications. There is this http://shop.roninsgrips.com/Yugoslavian-M85-M92-Handguard-Sets-M85M92HandguardsFerruleCut.htm but is isn't a rail, just hand guard. The description states that you can mount rails on it as it is plastic and can be "modded". Ironwood also makes a plain wood hand guard.

Boy, someone needs to offer another option in the market, don't they? We may just have to look into that...

I was hoping that there would be something like the low profile Krebs keymod style rail out there. The MI rail is nice, but having the option to mount or not to mount rails is better. I would also like to see one that interfaces with the receiver and uses the existing front retainer, without requiring a barrel clamp. The Krebs short handguard uses some sort of clamp on the rear and a screw through the front retainers cleaning rod hole. With the large semi-circular cutouts in the M92s front retainer, it looks like there is the possibility of using two to four screws in a similar manner to secure the lower rail. This and keymod removable rails should make for a superlight rail, which is essential for the already heavy M92. If I only had the ability to design and make one.

The Tavor hand guard is very nice and i would love to see Manticore Arms jump into the AK rail business by offering a nice M92/M85 hand guard (with keymod rails please)!
Heck, make one that will fit the N-PAP and O-PAP's while you're at it! |

I have spent quite a bit of time working on development of the Yugo Krink handguard this weekend, and although there is a lot yet to do, the result so far are very promising. Keep an eye on our Dealer subforum, more information should be posted there as things progress...

Thanks for your efforts. Please try to use the receiver and front hand guard retainer and not a barrel clamp to secure the lower.

Great, I can't wait to get one for my PAP M92, put me down for one.

Tagged for M92 handguard goodness. I figure the stock and flash hider are going to be Manticore; might as well throw on your handguard as well. Perhaps something similar to your Tavor rail? Add on rail sections as needed, maybe the top can be railed for an optic so I don't have to drop cash on an Ultimak? Modular so I can add a rail for a flashlight, maybe a QD swivel socket and maybe a foregrip? I tried a the MI rail on an AMD65 and wasn't too impressed.

View Quote The new rail system will have ARClight slots on both the upper and lower handguard, allow for several optics mounting options (I think we will be able to get a co-witness on a Burriss Fastfire - have one on order and should know by end of the week) and for those guys who hate the poor transition of most rail systems to the receiver[/span], I spent a great deal of time working to get a near seamless transition from the handguard to the receiver. It was a bitch to do, but I 110% guarantee the results will be worth it. Just need to knock out some prototypes to make sure everything drawn up on the computer works in real life, and see where the costs fall... Sven Manticore Arms |

sounds good, please keep us posted and post some pics as soon as possible

I actually had a brainstorm this morning on how to keep the forend cooler (anyone who has touched an Ultimak has found out the hard way just how hot it can get even after short strings) so I am working up a second version that should take that into account. Also came up with a possible neat way to mount a sling.

I have the Burris fastfire and an m92. I'll be watching this thread for updates.

Fastfire showed up today, that was fast!
Things are moving along just the way I like- we are going from concept to physical prototype in less than 5 days! |

How is it coming? Design of the lower portion is done, the upper we are just waiting on one more red dot to show up, and then decide what direction to go with optics mounting. We are looking at three optinos: 1. Make our own gas tube that allows for red dot mounting 2. Make a mount that clamps on to the existing gas tube 3. Make a mount that cantilevers off our lower forearm. We would have to oversize the lower forearm to ensure a tight fit (end used would have to file a bit for their individual gun) but the upside is no contact with the gas tube at all- better heat management. Unfortunately it might be an issue if the handguard was sold to someone else down the road and was loose in their gun. I know wihtout pictures this is all hard to imagine, but we don't want to give anything away quite yet- the market is *very* competitive these days and we don't want to show the cards in our hand just yet... |

damn it.. I just ordered the MI hand guard. Guess I'll need to buy another M92 for the Manticore version

Will there be a gas tube mount only for those looking to use the original lower hand guard?

Mick View Quote The upper portion as currently designed will mount to the existing gas tube, so yes, you could use it with a standard wood lower handguard. Haven't quite worked out all the details on it yet, but we do plan to sell the upper and lower both together as a package deal and separately for those who only want the upper/lower portion. Best of both worlds for the end user. |

On my "day off" (LOL, no such thing when you love designing gun parts!) I think I have the optics mounting sorted out.
I am going to start a dedicated thread in our Dealer forum, as for some reason having the "MI" in the title of a thread that has drifted towards our own original and new product is a little, well, odd. Sven Manticore Arms |

Haven't forgot about this, just making some final tweaks and then we should be able to show what we got up our sleeve- probably in a week or so.

OK, just for you late night forum cruisers, here are some pics of the polymer forend. The slots on the sides work with the ARClight rail segments, and also aftermarket polymer rail segments and accessories. Polymer will be a high temperature thermoset, and it is so heat resistant that the polymer would only smolder when wood is burning. The forend works just fine with the standard gas tube that comes with your gun. There will be an associated optics mount too, should have pics of that in a week or so. View Quote Is there no top side to it with the barrel exposed? It looks like it's got that hotdog bun thing going on. |
|
The top is closed off by the optics mount (which isn't shown in the pictures- finishing up the patent for it). Yes, the optics mount will allow for co-wtiness of several popular red dot sights.
Unlike most other optics mount systems for the AK that leave you with an exposed, hot gas tube and optics mounting system, the idea here is to wrap the underside and sides in polymer so your hands won't contact any metal from the barrel or gas tube- no burned fingers of hands! You could, of course, just run the lower polymer forearm without any optics mount (just running iron sights) to give maximum ventilation. |

Any idea on when this will be available? Will rail sections be included? Color options?
I personally would not put a delta point, or other high end optic on a $400 PAP, but some people have more money than they know what to do with. I would go with the PA red dot they offer. Hopefully a top cover would fit that and possibly even co-witness. |

PA micro and Aimpoint micro will work with the same base, we have a PA micro right here in house to confirm that. Yes, it will co-witness 3. Will be offered "ala carte" (you can buy just the polymer forend or just the optics mount) and also as a full package with rail segments. We will also have individual rail segments for sale shortly. |
