Anybody have one of these rifles? Are they factory new or surplus parts? Who makes the barrel? thanks
|
|
The one I have has surplus parts and a new barrel. Don't know who makes what
|
|
Mine was factory new except for the surplus wood stock set.

Bjfoien, does your rifle have a rear sling swivel either on the port-side of the receiver or on the buttstock?
If not, what is one supposed to do? TIA. Seems like an odd piece to delete ... |

Mine did not come with a rear sling swivel. I purchased a nice East German swivel from desert fox. I just can't decide where to mount it. Any suggestions? |

Can you tell me if the barrel is chrome? Was the wood unfinished? Double stack bolt? Is it a G2 trigger on it? Thank |

The barrel is not chromed, but I don't shoot corrosive ammo. Wood was unfinished, gave it a lite sanding, added a few coats of tung oil, done. Yes it does have a double stack bolt, and it did come with the G2 trigger. |

Anyone happen to know if the BCG is actually chrome? Looks odd, more like an unfinished stainless steel than chrome.

Kind of like it myself too but that sucker is heavy. To me that old school real wood looks great. Love the stenciled SN and crest on the stock too but between the wood, heavier barrel and slightly heavier bulged receiver it weighs in at 9.1 lbs.
Don't get me wrong, no big deal for the range but if I had to carry it for awhile I'd be wishing for a 7 lb polymer-furniture AK. Then there's the non-chrome lined barrel too...normal for Yugos and not a huge issue, just a slight detraction... Still, it's very close to the classic 1970's M70 so it gets + points as a collector's piece. |

Is unfinished steel make bad barrel? I was talking about the bolt and carrier. Unfinished steel means it's more susceptible to corrosion and rust. The barrel though is hammer forged (but not chrome lined). |

Which Gen is the ones that J&G sales are selling? Did century fixed the single stack bolt problems on these?
|
|
They're selling a couple of the PAPs but the O-PAP is the third gen. Yes, it has the double stack bolt (and 1.5mm RPK bulged trunnion receiver). That's the current offering that's closest to the 1970's M70 (minus the original gas block, bayonet lug and flip up night sight).

Im not seeing the huuuuge issue with the non chrome-lined barrel.... you guys act like you will be deploying to the beaches of normandy with it to sit in a trench for a year... if you clean it and maintain it...it will not corrode or rust..... CLP is your friend.
|
|
For anyone who's actually shot the O-PAP...does it have a high comb stock like most Yugos? Meaning is cheek slap still an issue?

I just got one today. Haven't shot it yet. It's a Serbian gun, I have high hopes :)

CLP is your friend. hahahah! that's so funny but very TRUE. I have the polish milled 1960 model ak and they aren't chrome-lined. I don't have it oiled nor haven't seen any sing of corrosion. I keep it clean though but I live in the desert so dry places is a more friendly for non chrome-lined barrels. Anyway I Ordered one of these Yugo OPAP after knowing they are 3rd Generation and and couldn't let pass this big deal from J&G sales! My first Yugo as well. Everyone show pics when you receive your Yugo OPAP! |

I just took mine to the range. Right out of the box, no adjustments, no cleaning, Tulammo in it, I shot 60 rounds, and they all landed exactly where they were supposed to. I also got a Serbian M85PV, but that one is little harder to aim with. BTW, 3rd gen is by no means a Yugo. You even get a Serbian coat of arms on it.

It is taking longer than I thought. They didn't have the ffl copy in file so that took about 2 days. . |

They're actually still "Yugo" AKs, just the name of the country changed. Reality is, they were and still are made in the Zastava arsenal. Pretty consistent reports that the O-PAP seems well put together though. Zastava puts out a pretty high quality product for the most part. |
|
Yeah. Yugoslavia was +/- like the Soviet Union. Few countries together like Croatia, Slovenia, Serbs, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Vojvodina and Kosovo. Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia all together. During the years, they broke like the Soviet Union. The Zastava Arms factory still in the same place which is Serbia. So my guessing is that all imported "yUgos" (since they started to export to the US in 2004) are from the same Serbian Factory. I think is the use to say "Yugo" and no Serb. Like most of us call AK to the AKM. I hope that makes sense. Good stuff
|
|
Yes, pics when you can! They never get old.
Seems J&G is no longer guaranteeing crests on the stocks (they removed the crested pic from the site). Probably running low... |

so whats the verdict on the o-pap? (http://www.jgsales.com/cai-yugo-akm-47-o-pap-opap-m70-rifle,-7.62x39-cal,-with-pistol-grip-and-wood-stock.-**-sale-**-p-60085.html)
i have the original pap, but was having issues with it feeding rounds... im sending it back to century tomorrow but ive lost faith in the rifle and am thinking about getting the o-pap and selling the other one or something once century fixes it... does the o-pap have the double stack bolt? would you recommend i get this one and get rid of my original pap? (i hate the picanny rail on the top anyways)... thanks for any suggestions |

(not 100% sure about that though, I know it has a DS bolt) It has a normal top cover and the M21 scope rail, surplus wood, and night sight ready FSB and rear sight. It is definitely the best version to date. I would suggest getting the O and ditching the older one you have. |

Finally got my Yugo last night. The wood isn't as bad as I thought. Metal finish is excellent, magwell open cut is excellent, a little tight fit with new metal mags but I prefer this than wobbly like my wasr. The Century grip isn't bad but, I change it with an original Yugo grip, changing the mag follower with US made. One thing I didn't like (but easy fixed) is that century didn't clean the Rifle when they did cut the magwell. When I inspected the Rifle I found metal residues in all the rifle. Even in the barrel and gas tube as well as the gas block!. Thank God I always inspect & clean when I receive a new Rifle before shoot!. I'm Really happy with this new toy. Pics soon It came with double stack bolt. Compare the bolts, Yugo Zastava O-PAP left and my milled polish right ( Yugo bolt fell down a bit and the polish bolt stayed up. that's why the Yugo looks smaller in the pic). I haven't go to shoot it but, I did remove the Firing Pin to test the feeding (a full mag) and no problem so far. I recommend to disassemble the bolt completely and clean it because it was full of oil mixed with dust/dirt so your firing ping can move freely. FSB, gas block, Front trunnion are nice and straight. Seems like its already sighted in, I'll see when I go to the range. So far so good, The Bolt moves very freely. No Joke it think it moves more freely than my sgl31, is really smooth. I'm loving this new family member View Quote That's a good looking rifle! Looks like the wood could easily be cleaned up too. When you hit the range, I'd be curious to know if yet get any cheek slap from the stock angle. I've heard that a lot about Yugos, that most people have to push their cheek weld very far forward (nose almost on the rear of the receiver) to avoid it. Thanks again for the pics. |

I'll keep it in mind when I get to the range and report back if I feel a cheek slap! Not sure If I can this weekend but the report will definitely going to be here . BTW, What do you recommend to clean the wood? The handguard has like some kind of oil or cosmoline deep in it and robust feeling. The stock seems to be more clean and dry but still could get better. Thanks!!! |
|
If it's just cosmo, you can usually heat it up (heat gun, blow dryer) and it'll melt off, then you can usually finish cleaning it off with mineral spirits. Toxic fumes though so doing it outside is best.
After that, if it were mine, I'd probably lightly sand it and refinish it with something that doesn't shine like tung oil. bjfoien's wood in this post looks great to me: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_4_64/150413_N_pap_vs_O_pap_Zastiva_rifles.html I don't want to give bad advice though. To figure out what you really need to clean it, might want to call J&G or Century and ask what's on there. |
|
Hate you guys. Been eyeing this rifle for a week and noticed stock was getting lower and lower (like 35 this morning) so I ordered one and a couple mags. Can't wait! This will be a present to myself after buying my girl a ring .pics to come when it arrives.

You guys are killing me. I'm waiting to spend on a SLR-107F and 556R. Both are more practical 7.62x39 shooters but I just think the O-PAP's a great looking rig. Looks like a well built rifle that might end up having some collector's value too. J&G was down to about 35 units but looks like they have 300+ in stock again, which means maybe they have some more with a crest on the stock...decisions decisions...
Still curious about any stock cheek-slap from those who've made it to the range already... |
