Would I need to use an ak74 rear sight if I wanted to replace the factory rear sight on a 223?

A standard AK74 sight leaf should work

Best choice to switch out - 5.45x39 is very close at AK ranges & sights to 5.56x45 NATO

Just raise up the sight, depress the flat spring down and push down on the sight to move it down and out of the J holes that hold it.
