And how hard will it be to get the front trunion and the gas tube and what should we expect to pay?

Im not sure on prices but it wouldnt be hard to get a trigger gaurd you could even use a romy. Im not sure if its the same length on an RPK but you could use a 74 gas tube. And as for trunnion I dont know were you could get one but if you fad to you could moddify a standard on like on jnewts rpk 74 build on his sight.

Buy a VEPR in 5.45. It has a receiver and trunnion.

I ordered one too, but don't know if I have the "senority" to have get one.  Their "competitor" closed the deal...

BTW, I have a new undrilled bulgy 7.62 RPK trunnion.  If I put a 5.45 bullet guide in it, would it work?

Would an AK-74 gas tube work?

Thanks

Now that's a much more reasonable price.  I can't believe the other guys want 1600 for the same polymer kit.  The 1000 would buy you the RPK trunnion, trigger guard and gas tube, and heck of a lot more.

As for gas tube, I am very sure that AK74 tube would work, there's no difference in distance from rear sight block to gas block.  Also AK74 trigger guard would work.

The only key is the RPK74 trunnion.  I am wondering if Yugo's stamped RPk kit trunnion would work.  It'll have to be modified since it's for 7.62, but it might work.  Heck, for 1000 you can probably get some machine shop to mill you out of steel if you can provide the specs.

Did the Bulgarians ever prodcue a stamped receiver RPK>  Or is K-VAR holding back on us to get another $89.00 or whatever about three months from now?

You can buy a Vepr 5.45 and your set.  Its has the trunnion and a Russian RPK reciever made in the Molot factory in Russia.  EDIT:  Although I don't know if the RPK buttstock would fit the reciever without any problems...

They are advertising this trunnion right below it:
KR-014B TRUNNION BLOCK (Bulgarian) AKS-74U

Will it work? I doubt I am an active enough member to qualify.  That's hard to believe they are reviewing the purchases for seniority on theirs boards to determine purchase and shipment qualification!!!!!

Regular 74 trunnion will not work.

It will cost about $250 to finish the kit out.  If you want it right, you will have to buy a RPK47 trunnion and have it modified.  Alot more work than just changing out the bulet guide...

I ordered mine.

Will a AK-74 trunnion work with it on a "normal" Ak-74 receiver?

Well, when I saw this it was one of those, "oh shit, where's my credit card" moments.

Funny, how I really didn't have big plans for an RPK until I saw this.

My take-

K-var kit- $600
Vepr 5.45 - $600 out the door
gunsmithing- $500-700 for reweld receiver, install undrilled new parts barrel, etc

Sell extra Vepr/RPK74 kit parts- $100 in your pocket-

Total- $1700-1900
Or-

ORF kit- $1500 ($1600 plum)
US Receiver (if even availible)- $175 out the door (could be more $)
gunsmithing- $300 (simply riviting old kit onto new receiver and refinish)

Total: $1975 ($2070 plum). But your stock set is used...

The K-var/Vepr route is still cheaper, and you have an almost all Russian gun... BUT, the ORF/US made receiver way is not that much more..

The K-var kits lacking a trunnion is not an issue if using a Vepr as a donor. Harlan's RPK74 receivers are only an idea at this point, changing out the trunnion (because it has the Serial number) on a Vepr is a grey area....

Wonder if Kvar intentionally did this...after what we've seen lately? If I had to guess, I'd say yes. Smart move on their part....and you know they're still making money on the deal!

I want to get one but i think the trunnion is going to be too much money and all the other stuff.  I'll stick with my AK-74S kit.

ORF's plum kit does have the ribbed upper handguard...  That would be an extra $100 to get for the Kvar kit...

And if you could get your hands on a folding RPK stock set it would be perfect...

Spooky
