Just got an email from K-VAR stating that they have a limited quantity of AKS-74U kits. $699 a kit. Ouch! I paid Magua Industries $280 for one, and $400 to K-VAR for another one a few years ago.
Here is the link: http://www.k-var.com/product.asp?0=211&1=214&3=106 You get $50 off if you join the K-Var forum which only takes a minute to do and at no cost. |

Dear Friends, After months of hard work and relentless efforts, K-Var does it again! As promised K-Var employees, buyers, and board members will work tirelessly to provide our patrons with the best quality and newest parts available. Due to the new BATF ruling on barrels, our latest shipment of 5.45x39.5 caliber AKS-74U parts sets was time sensitive. In order to acquire these parts sets to our valued customers we had to overcome numerous difficulties. • The BATF barrel ban importation deadline of September 10th, 2005 made our task seem impossible. • We decided to take a gamble and go for it, in hopes that we could import the Krinkov kits before the deadline. We voiced our opposition about the September 10th deadline with the Fair Trade Group and were successful in getting the deadline extended to December 31st, 2005. • To add more obstacles to our mission, the Krinkov kits were not available from the military surplus. • As a result we purchased brand new rifles from Arsenal Bulgaria’s factory stock. • Properly and accurately de-milling the Krinkov kits without drilling out the rivets. • In order to preserve the quality and integrity of the parts during the de-milling process we had to ask the BATF for a variance to enable us to deviate from normal de-milling procedures. The factory created custom jigs and worked long hours around the clock to de-mill these Krinkov kits. • Obtaining an export permit during Bulgaria government elections, when an export committee was not functioning. • This created a major problem, staying in constant communication with Bulgaria; we were eventually able to receive an export permit. • The embargo placed by the ocean freight lines on weapons, related parts, and ammunitions from the Black Sea coast. • In order to receive the Krinkov kits in a timely fashion we made arrangements to have them transported to the U.S. via chartered aircraft. We are extremely proud of our latest accomplishment, as no other company that we know of would even consider going through all of this effort for their customers. Our highly valued clientele, most of which are advanced collectors and AK enthusiasts, would prefer to have the absolute best products available, that is why we have gone the extra mile to bring these kits to you. The 5.45x39.5 caliber Bulgarian Krinkov kits are brand new from the factory, not the military surplus. The kits include an eight inch barrel and even though we did not receive magazines with the rifles, we are including one thirty round magazine form our current stock. The regular price for this Krinkov kit is $699, as a valued MIG/ETA forum member you’ll receive a forum and online order discount making your price $649. Friends, this is it! These are the last de-milled Krinkov kits to be imported! We would like to thank Arsenal Bulgaria, Bulgaria export committee, everyone involved to make this sensational accomplishment happen. Thank you! |

Honestly...we go from AMD to AK-74 to Romy to Tantal to Polish to Feg to Krinkov in eight months
God Bless Arsenal but I'm done |
I asked the girl on the phone if they were getting any 5.56 or 7.62 kits.
She said she THINKS so, but she is not sure. |
That would be good info to know. I'd despertely love a 7.62 kit alot more than another 5.45 kit.
I very much doubt it, Arsenal has too many arms contracts with governments right? Krinkovs are probably the only ones not on contracts
Same information I got. Possibly 7.62 kits coming in. The kits currently in are for stamped receivers.

Do you guys think someone like ORF or another vendor would buy a quantity from either Bulgaria or K-var and sell cheaper?
I would love to buy one of these, but with the ban and all in effect in CT, I cannot own one.
Can I still order one and just not build it? I don't own any AK's in any caliber so I do not believe that I could get in trouble for "intent" I know these imported AK's are getting harder and harder to get, I would just like to get a kit just in case the CT ban is repealed.....we all can dream ...right? |
These offered are 5.45 stamped...but your question was for the 556 Milled after threading the barrel..good luck finding a kit though You could go stamped, but you would have to find front and rear trunnions and make modifications to the trunnions and barrel |
I think they are stamped? Is this hardcore price gouging than before?
these are stamped, a charted flight would have to cost alot of bread and seeing the hoops they had to go through and considering there are no kits like this, I think they are VERY reasonably priced
A couple of observations;
These kits come with that crappy looking ( and I do mean crappy looking) brown handguards. I guess some sanding is in order. For Pete's sake, keep the mag and throw in a trigger guard! |
Would there be an advantage to wait to get another caliber possibly? Are the other ones "Better" or more desirable?
I can get you a trigger guard for about $15
I think that is a beautiful Krink handguard set there....but to each his own |
Why don't they come with the trigger guards? I've seen this from K-var in the past too. They must just cut them out to be ATF compliant.
That whoosing sound you all heard was the money leaving my wallet
since the receiver was band saw cut by an excemption from normal torching specs, they tossed the middle receiver piece away. I suspect they didn't have the time or authorization to change the way they were demilling them to torch the guard group off the receiver piece or drill the rivets there
Yeah they sacrificed the trigger guard to keep the torch slag off the rest of the parts |
Yeah...that wouldn't make much sense. That's too steep for me. Better to spend your money on a complete SEAK build. Too bad I don't have the flow to buy that after the SEBR!
I still wish they had spaced out the purchase times a little. |
Pretty sloppy cutting if they destroyed the trigger guard in the process.
I hear you. I've got enough kits to be built that will take me through the next five years already. |
Not going to happen IMHO. |
Man, they probably had these all along.. You know, "We found thiese in the back of the warehouse".. Just now is the time to drop the price bomb on us.. I still want one though.. I'll trade anyone a NIB Bushmaster A4 for one..
Um, yeah you can. As long as it's NOT 762X39 and as long as it has no FS and bayo lug or folding stock. If you could find one with a barrel extension and pinned stock in 5.45x39 or .223 you would be OK. |
duhh. but that was not my question |
How about helping a bro out after he tipped you off to a good deal on Rommies? 2nd from the left will do. |
Sundance, that bad boy is a .223 built on a Saiga donor receiver with K-Var blonde furniture. You should see the bright yellow 18" flame that comes out of the can when I shoot Federal XM193 ammo!! |
mmmmmm yellow flame! Fine the one on the left will do then! Or what ever on is 5.45. |
Yeah, well these should be dated 2005, so it shouldn't be too hard to catch'em in a lie. That is if they are lying. I don't care if they flew them and bought each one a first class seat with champagne and strawberries. These ain't worth $700 and K-Vart can keep them. I here thought Exxon-Mobil was the bastard of the day K-Vart. ROFL! |
You guys are all funny.
What would be a "fair price" for these kits, then? Come on all of you Economics majors, what should K-VAR charge for these kits? *grabs popcorn while waiting for answers* |
Do we think that all of the stocks are going to be that shade of brown? Or are there different finishes from Bulgaria they might get.
they may not be worth it, but they are gonna get it and next year we are all going to be cursing the fact we didnt buy a dozen. kinda like they were not worth 400 a couple years ago.
I bought 2 and was glad to get them at this price. In fact, I was suprised that the price was so low considering all the crap that's been going on lately. In a month I'll be kicking myself for not getting more.
This was exactly what I've been waiting for. I've had a boner for a Bulgi 5.45 for quite a while now. These have been demilled so it's easier to build (not counting the rear receiver issues: sidefolder) because it's already been headspaced. Sweeet! Now we need a batch in 7.62 ps lugerman that pic gives me a rise in my levis. |
Yeah it sucks when they just sit on stock for few months and the double the price. I know k-var just got a new batch in but, do you think they just sold out of everything they had over night? I understand that people have to make a living but, damn $699 +70(receiver) + 200 for a brake and compliance parts + gun kote for receiver, rivets, time. Hell just spend the money and get one already built. Thats higher than FGW's and we all know how bad they rape people. I know FGW's doesn't have any and hardly delivered but, that was their price if you could get them.
Damn, if I hadn't just dropped a grand on everything I need to build a 7.62 Krink....
Okay guys this is how it is, they buy up all the kits off the market, sit on them for a couple months then jack the price up 2 or $300 and re offer them. Just like w/ gas, everybody jumps at it because they think they're gonna be gone and the $699 don't sound bad. I say 400 to 475 is a fair price?
Thats what I'm talking about. Supply and demand. You think they bought enough to last two weeks. Hell no they bought every damn thing they could. Every employee at kvar probably took out a third loan on their house. If we sit back and don't buy them the price will come down.
I would love to have a 5.45 but my 7.62 will do for now unless that group buy thingy comes up?
They'll probably sell every one, but none to me. $649 is more than a complete no-ban SLR-105. Its $300 more than a regular sidefolder kit. A $650 AK KIT is only 'worth it' to people with a lot more money than myself, but thats capitalism. If I had a ton of money I'd probably buy one too.
Well with the new and improved bbl import ban comming up, and our future of owning exotic shooters like these limited to when congress decides to oughtright ban assault rifles, then $650.00 isn't all that crazy....We are VERY lucky to even be able to build these guns.. I think it's a fair market price...
I would have to agree with you like it or not. I get the sinking felling that this will all go away in the not to distant future. If I didn't have one of each I'd buy more but I'm already sitting on 20 different AK kits now with two more on the way thanks to THEREALSUNDANCE! |
But wait a minute, didn't you hear? They're gouging! |
I've wanted one of these since I built my first '74. The market will bear that price.... but my wallet won't. For that kind of money I'll snap together a 10.5" AR clone. (NEVER thought I would make that statement.)
I love the idea that they will come down, but do you think it will happen? What will the price be in a year when you dont get a barrel in the kit? Seems too high to me but I am not sure that this wont be a missed buy I regret.
I think the "Just discovered in a warehouse!!!!! ONLY $2000 while they last!!!" will come a year or two from now.
