I was wondering what size bore brushes to get to clean my 7.62 x 39 AK? Is it the same size as a .308? I think the are different bullets but just wondering if they are close enough for cleaning purposes. Thanks. -Turk182

I would go with a .brush for .303 British. It is the correct size. .308 is too small.

I use bronze brushes marked for .32 cal handguns. They work great!

Went all the way up to a 9mm brush to scrub my rusty, crusty, crappy-bored Yugo from CFS.
Thanks guys. I will use my Kel-Tec p32 brushes to get that Ak squeaky clean so i can shoot that rich spotless wolf ammo i just bought :)

I never clean my WASR, maybe I should give it a scrubing with some CLP and a boresnake now that I think of it.
But damn it's a AK, is cleaning that necessary for these rifles. All I do is plink with them anyway.

I am surprised you guys dont give your AK's more loving. My MAK-90 is my first Ak. I will polish it with a diaper. I honestly do enjoy cleaning weapons after using them. Its like cuddling and pillow talk after doing the matress manuevers. Has anyone used a boresnake on a 7.62 and if so what caliber?

All this time I've been using .308. So .32 or .303 is better?

It would be cool for someone to do some kind of math deally thingy thinking brain talky talky with it. I have seen a COUPLE of 7.62 x 39 cleaning kits advertised. I know that 5.56 is ALLMOST the same as .223 I use .22 cal bore brushes for my AR. What does the 7.62 x 39 relate to? I allways ASSUMED .308 We need a response force.

7.62X39 is (IIRC and someone will be along to correct me disclaimer) .311. Hence the .32cal brush used above. I'm not sure what the .303 diameter is.

.30 caliber I use Kleen Bore phosphor bronze bore brushes. The tube they come in is marked 30/7.62mm rifle.
