Think I may have to call tomorrow.
Are they complete kits? With rear trunnion? And is the underfolder mechanism itself in good working order? Sorry for all the questions, but feel it can't hurt to ask. |

Oh My God! They look like they were stored in the ocean for thirty years.
How many fair kits do you have? I am so hard up for an underfolder I might order a fair kit anyway. The "fair" kit looks good enough to restore to its former glory. Hmm... Do these kits all include internals? (trigger, hammer, and pins) |
check out that leather wrapped folder!
mamasita!!! that soldier KNEW how to bling up a cold piece of steel! |
I like someone who's finally honest about kit condition. I got a 'very good' G3 kit once that was about in the same shape as the 'piss poor' is listed here.

Guys,
Orders that were placed this eve, were packed and shipping tomorrow. You can stop by the shop if your local, but your not gonna get to go through the kits, sorry would not be fair to others. The kits that I seperated, Mike did most, all had good working stock assemblies, mech parts were "gritty" from the saw dust, but seem fine. Yes internal parts are included in the kits too. The fair kits, and the poor kits would make nice rifles, refinish all parts, get new wood or syn handguards and PG. Todd@ORF |
Whoo Hoo! That means I'm getting my kit next week! Sweet! That and some of the Bulgarian mags! |
Gee, that one sounds like the story of my life. Sorry, had a horrible week. |
Well, Do they call these "Polish" underfolders because you have to be Polish to order one?
I must be Polish... I ordered a fair kit that ships tomorrow. The people at ORF had great customer service over the phone. Especially when compared to the bitch I talked to at FAC of America last week. FAC customer service sucks. Thanks ORF! |
TGrove..
I gotta ask this question: Do ANY of the Polish parts kits you are selling have the late style cast AKM gas blocks? 99% of the Polish kits I've seen have the common "early" style AKM gas block I once saw one of the Polish kits with the late style gas block and have been hunting for one ever since... If you do have any with the cast gas block, could a request be made if I order a kit to be sent one? Thanks |
Has anyone got the 69$ one yet? If its complete I wouldn't mine building one with it since I like a good challenge. I would leave all the third world bling on it though, gotta keep it all original.
Got my $109 model here already! Only 5 hrs away but fast service from any angle!!!
Looks like the pic and no noted wobble/wear in the stock, CRISP rifling Thanks again. |
Got my fair kit today.
All numbers match, the barrel looks very good! Only a few missing parts. Edit to add: E-mailed Todd and he is sending the missing parts. The "Fair" grade is supoosed to be complete. But the rear trunion is sliced on mine. They made the cut and actually cut halfway through the front rivets. Edit to add: Got an e-mail from Todd. The cut on the rear Trunion could be gotten around by welding. |
Are the $69 dollar kits complete? I am thinking about ordering a couple for use as spare parts, or if they are complete and capable of being safely built into t functioning rifle (safely is the operative word here), I may experiment with a few ideas I have been kicking around. I just hate to commit a nice kit to something I am not sure I am going to finish. or even like once finished. plus I have been looking for a chance to practice some refinishing and rebuilding techniques I am reluctant to try out on nicer kits.
I called Ohio Rapid Fire today, 10/08, asking about the bottom of the barrel $69 underfolder kits with the idea of using the rear trunnion that was missing from a kit that I purchased from another source. They said that these kits are missing parts including the rear trunnion.

What is the condition of the lower handguard on the "fair" kit? Could it be shined up to make it look sweet? I can't wait to get mine.
My hanguards are really oily. They are nicked and dinged, but I think could be cleaned up. They look ... well fair.
ripcode.....the photoserver is dork'ed at the second, but I have a pic of some PLO handguards that were in the same condition. I little bit of work, and they can be brought back to beauty!
Got my Fair kit today and it was excellent, finish all intact on all metal and bore is sharp and shiny. Rear trunion wasnt as badly cut as some of the others on here. The handguards need some TLC but with some sanding , red mahogany stain and varnish they will look good. The fair kit is definatly worth the price.

I received my fair kit today. It looks great! The bore looks new and the handguards are nice laminated wood just a little scratched. The underfolder button doesn't work right now. I wonder if it is rusted shut or jammed with grease. I am also missing a few small parts. I am missing the cleaning rod, a pivot pin, and a pistol grip screw. All parts match and it even has my birth year stamped on the left side. Very Kick Ass!
Overall I am very pleased with the kit and can't wait to give it the attention it needs. Thanks ORF!!! |
E-mail Todd about the missing parts. He said the fair kits are supposed to be complete. I had a few missing parts also and he is sending them out. We're we supposed to get cleaning rods?? I didn't get one either. |
Todd,
I ordered a Polish kit from you earlier today, and then got a call from Bob at Akron Armory this evening. He told me that he was spying on me, and picked out my Polish kit today. You can bet I was confused! Wrong guy, wrong place, wrong company. He laughed at me once I was thoroughly confused! I had no idea you guys knew each other! He had to call to mess with me! I thought you would get a kick out of that! ...just goes to show what a small community we shooters have. Doug |
I have a few friends that want to get one of the fair kits after seeing how nice mine was. Do you guys have any more? I might get another for spare parts too.
Wanted to note I got my missing parts in short order!
Love the customer service at ORF!! Thanks Todd! |
Wow! That looks nice. Had bad did it look before you re-did them? |

Were the grips soaked in cosmo/grease?? How do I get that out?? |
Yes, they were soaked in oil, grease, and camel snot! It is a slow messy project for removal.... but I know you can handle it!
Get a can of oven cleaner...look for the stuff that containes "lye". Don't get the foaming, friendly, lemon shit. Get the peels chrome off a trailer hitch stuff. Give them a good soaking. Allow it to remain on there for about 30 mins. Then wash it off with water. Then allow it to dry....slowly indoors over night.(if you speed this up, it will cause the wood to split.) The next day or so, repeat the process (dry slowly). Next a couple days later on a sunny day, soak the wood in a bleach bath, using a tooth brush to get into all the nooks and crannys. Take the wood out, put it in the sun no more than 20-30 mins per side flipping regularly. You will be able to see some of the wood turn white, and some dark... flip the dark towards the sun. After the short time in the sun, bring indoors and allow it to dry slow. At this point while the pours in the wood are open, you can use a steam iron, and brown paper to "lift" any dents in the wood. Now you are ready to start with my standard refinishing technique. link to color process www.ak47.net/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=64&t=64355 |

Thanks Jeep!
I've heard people talk about the over cleaner method, but your the first person I heard actually use it. I have over cleaner, I'll give that a shot and report back. |
Emails and pm aren't answered plus nobody home by phone today. Would like one of the fair/poor kits Thanks
Are there any kits left? Has anyone bought the Piss Poor set yet? I would get one if the rear trunnion and underfolder are in ok condition. I think an under folder would look cool on an AMD-65. My fair kit is turning out so well that I want to buy another one for a rainy day project.
Where are you guys getting your receivers to build these? I am interested in building an AK but not knowledgable right now, but like to plan for the future.
Guys,
We are almost sold out of fair kits, maybe 4-5 left, decent supply of poor, good supply of piss poor, 8-9 good lucks. Last week I left for mini vacation and closed store, sorry I was pretty damn far away and did not wanna advertise the fact I was gone. As I have said in the past, don't email me here, I rarely have time to check the emails, I come here to read and post. Email me at [email protected] or Tina (sales) [email protected] Todd@ORF |
Crap, too slow to get a 'fair' kit, so I picked up one of the 'poor.'
Finish is only supposed to be 1/2 or so, but it's going to be redone anyway, so that's no biggie. This ought to be interesting.... as long as the barrel is in good shape, which it supposedly is, that's all that really matters. |
Just placed my order for a "Poor" kit with Tina. I will post the results. They are out of the "Fair" kits. Hopefully my rear trunnion is OK.

For those who have received their kits: How much of a weld is going to be needed on the rear
trunion? I'm racking my brain trying to think of anybody I know who I can get to do the welding for me. |
Weld? I have been using screws on the rear trunnions to place them in the receiver. I guess I don't understand the question.
I have received my "fair" kit and it cleaned up great! The kit is prepped and ready for assembly once I receive my OOW receiver. I just can't get the cosmoline out of the handguards. |
