What do you guys think about this one? I've thought about doing a couple of custom units.

Thanks,

Awesome looking.  Reminds me of the "Tiger" Dragunov from years ago.  Will you be offering extra magazines for it?  How much?

Like it, except for the stock.  Looks like a real fun gun.  Hi-Cap mags aren't available though, are they?

Make it in 7.62x51 and have it able to accept like... FAL or M14 mags and it would be a nifty battle rifle type of thing.

I've got a couple and thought it would be neat to do some of these. They are 10rd only rifles. That is one reason they are still legal to import.

Troy,

That looks great; I’m still new to all this though. Can you tell me what it is (what it started life as), and what you’re doing to it. Kinda looks like a Yugoslavian receiver and SVD wood. Could you use the AK 100 series gas block/front sight?

Thanks, J

But....why? Its a cut down PSL...from the looks of it down to a 16" barrel. The scopes wont work on it (they are calibrated for the 7.62x54R round and the full profile PSL barrel) and it loses accuracy and range. Mags only come in 5 and 10 round capacity. I guess if you are hunting deer and want something a "little bit" lighter than a full barrel PSL, this would work, but you drop what...maybe a pound or less cutting the barrel.

Personally, kinda seems like a novelty item rather than anything useful. Definitely nice work however, just not practical ;)

Wonder what kinda velocity changes would result from the mini-barrel? Go do some testing with it, find out what accuracy difference you see - keep in mind that the PSL can kill out to 1200 yards with fairly accurate shots, so if this thing can still hold its killing velocity out to say 800, it would make a nice deer gun for those who hunt in tight quarters....really tight quarters....CQB deer hunting? heh

Centerfire systems is selling those for $799. I really like the look of them.

Agreed.  The FPK isn't a carbine, and this is a bastard child that tries to be all things to all people.  Interesting idea, but I think most would be better off with a 16" 7.62 or an unmolested FPK.

take care,
tec

Considering the flame belch from a M44 on Albanian 54r ammo, this bbl is shorter, use some mag bodies/springs grafted together to make hicaps, and plate shoots could be fun enough to warrant cleaning a gas gun from corrosive ammo.
I will guess that a bbl closer to 20" will get almost all the velocity out of the round (based on .308 data) and shorter/less muzzle whip may increase accuracy.
