I ve already tried to post this once so bare with me

East German Mags
7.62x39mm  these mags are made of blued steel and are generally not marked the only mark I have ever seen is a proof on the rib or on the extention, these are the best made on the market

Drums I have seen several but I do not own one each one I observed had the circle in the diamond proof. markings are found in the same location of other warsaw pact countries

5.45x39mm, these are plastic and are reddish yellow(orange)these mags are marked on the side of each mag near the base, these no's. represent the factory, (quality control) I have never seen a proof on these mags

9mm Mak  these are blue steel and have a small unreadable proof at the base, original mags are numbered with die's, replacement mags have the no. electro-penciled on

I can decifer all inked markings on the inside of the mag pouches and cleaning kits/holsters

if you have seen east german mags marked differently than I have indicated above please tell me

here's an odd one:
left- chinese
center- ??
right- bulgarian

what is it? i've got three of 'em.

I am not sure, but it looks to be Chinese made. Can you get a closer pic of whats attached to the mag on the side?
Link Posted: 5/1/2003 8:37:23 PM EDT
[#14]
my camera's not the best.
there's nothing attached to the side of the mag.
reinforcements are made with ribs and a raised area in the stamping.
all the features are chinese. thought they might have been a cost cutting ersaz for the type 81-1. (you know, that hybrid sks/ak.)

hey, how the f- do you spell erzats?

Anyone have any experience with the Romanian 40's?  Do they work ok?  Reasonably sturdy?  Any issues with fitting in certain 7.62 AK variants?

I have not tried the Chinese mags they are selling, but all of the CHinese mags I have shot (and it is a lot mind you) have been great! Also, if you dont like the "ridgeback" kind of mags that you see on the E.German mag spines then you will really like the Chinese mags due to not having that meteal spine.

The only probelem I have ever seen with Chinese mags is that sometimes the rear catch was to thick and needed to be adjusted. Other then that they work great. To think that you used to be able to buy the same mags for $2 each.

Mbsk01, the Chinese mags from RPB are really nice.  I have bought quite a few from them and all have come as brand new in the wrap with a healthy coat of grease and the made in china stickers on them.  I prefer the chinese mags to the euro mags (other than bulgarian waffles), and the mags from RPB have all done their job and function flawlessly.

Hi fellas,  newbie here.  Has anyone had any problems with the Bulgarian "waffle" mags?  They are the best looking mags to me, but that's really pointless if they aren't reliable. Thanks

Here are some of mine, except I don't know what they are.

On the left, a 40 round 7.62 bakelight mag, not to be confused with a 40 round 5.45 bakelight mag.  The number '1' can be found embossed on this mag, above the floor plate on the left side.  Lots of little ink stamps on it, most are not really legible.  In the middle, the ubiquitous russian slab side... On the right, you tell me.  Only mark on it is the number '1' near the base, towards the center of the mag (visible in this pic).  On the follower, which is steel, a triangle with several unreadible blobs in it.

What have I got?

Boy... I sure can't wait till september
I hope 'they' import more Russian slab-sides, and all sorts of 'rare' mags.

I like that plum waffle mag, BTW. is it plum, or brown plastic like the wacky looking dotted (texture/grip surface) furniture? Could be East German...

How do you tell the difference between steel Bulgarian and Romanian mags?  I've been collecting the 40 rounders and I'm not sure as to which I have.  What ever they are they work great.  They seem to have a black Phosphate finnish on them.

I also have 7 of the Chinese 100 rd drum mags.  They work great.  No markings what so ever that I can find on them like you see on some of the 75 rd drums.

AZ gun nut, I am interested in buying or trading one of your drums for my collection.

On that same note, eodinert, I am REALLY interested in trading/buying your brown ribbed AK mag.

Actually I'm not selling any of my drums, I still need to buy 2 more.  I have 8 now.  If you want a 100rd drum I suggest looking on www.gunbroker.com  as there's always one or two for sale at any given time.  The trick is to buy them reasonably.  I've managed to get some of mine for as little as $125 shipped, but most seem to go for around $160 - $180.

I've got several Hungarian 20rd. magazines and quite a few of them have some stampings that I have not seen on any other mags.  I was wondering if this is specific with Hungarian mags or are they on other mags as well?

Below is a picture of the 'Moon' stamp that is on the back rib of the mag.  Like I mentioned, this is stamped on a lot of the mags, but not all.

http://www.hunt101.com/img/265442.JPG

http://www.hunt101.com/img/265447.JPG

As you can probably see - it has a 'Man on the Moon' type face on it.  Does anyone else have this type stamp?  I've got some other stampings that are a little different too.  I'll try and get some of them posted also.
