I am looking for a budget AR15 build, what is the cheapest kit available? Is it possible to build one for $500 or less?

The absolute cheapest ones I've seen are from AKpartskits.com. I've ordered from them in the past, but I won't order from them again. Their QC is quite lacking.

I'd recommend going with Del-Ton.

Del-Ton and J&T have kits from 465 to 525 roughly depeding on what you want, DSA has blemished lowers for 60 bucks. that should be pretty cheap

yep stay away from AKpartskits, they are hesse, blackthorne or what ever they call themselves today

Delton is the absolute cheapest for kits. JT is close but it is usually a couple of bucks more for comparable kits...Dont overlook the EE and Classifieds boards on this site. Also the Legal Transfers Group Buy is a great deal. I got my friend hooked on the AR and that is what he is getting per my recommendation. Minimum for building an AR with brand new parts is around $750.

Well DS Arms is selling complete lowers for $180. M4 nitride uppers for $275. Charging handle for $15. Pick up a BCG for 105-159.
lets see that adds up to $ 575-629. Thats pretty inexpensive. Then there is the CMMG Bargin bin rifle....... So , Yes you can still get a decent AR15 for less then 600.
