John Holschen of Insights training centre
posted this at the Insights list:

My teammates and I (~10 pers.) have been carrying/using EOTech Model 552
sights (I don't know which revision) since arriving in Iraq in late
February. We are in and out of vehicles numerous times a day and while
traveling at a high rate of speed on poor roads the weapons/sights
inevitably get banged around.

We have had no malfunctions of any type with these sights. The controls
function as designed and we have experienced no loss of zero on any of our
weapons (AKs originally, now M4s.) I find the large outer ring of the
reticle quite fast for close work and the small central dot provides a very
precise aiming point out to the maximum ranges of my operational
conditions/weapons systems.

Our sights are "on" no less than 10 hours/day and frequently 12-14
hours/day. Most of the day the reticle is set to a relatively high intensity
due to the extremely bright ambient light conditions, of course as the day
turns into dusk and finally full dark the brightness is adjusted
appropriately. Battery life (Alkaline AAs) has been about 6 weeks/set with
this usage. (I just changed my batteries for the second time a couple of
days ago.)

Those of you who know me, know that I don't spend much time keeping up with
the latest gear and all of its variations. I can't offer a detailed
comparison of the EOTech to all of the other sights on the market. (In my
opinion, many of the features/details that I see discussed on the various
forums are simply a matter of personal preference.) I will say that at this
point I am completely satisfied with the EOTech sight. For my uses it has
been an utterly reliable and effective tool.
