What do you guys train with? I like to shoot out to 500 yards with irons but don't want to always shoots m855 and xm193, any recommendations? Is there any steel case ammo consistent enough for longer range shooting?

How about stuff like wolf gold and pmc? All I want to do is to hit steel silhouettes at distance...

75gr gold dot is the cheapest brass cased option I've found.

How big is the target? I'd bet wolf gold would be fine

Hornady steel match is an awesome place to start. My only hesitation is that I've found Hornady 75 to be a bit selective in what rifles it likes to be shot in. I had a PRI Mk. 12 Mod. 0 that absolutely loved the stuff and was consistently <MOA. My current SPR LT Stealth barrel shoots it at almost 2.5 MOA. I'd buy a box and see how it goes in your barrel before committing.

If yours doesn't like it and shoots 2.5 MOA or whatever like mine, it's still a decent buy at it's price point but it becomes less of a bargain relative to other alternatives. If your barrel likes it like my old Mk.12, it's pretty much the best deal going by far.

I like wolf gold, but have recently been getting federal ae223m at walmart. It shoots equally meh in my guns, just like WG, IMI, and PPU. Perfecta while underpowered seems to be a bit more precise in the 3 guns I shot it out of, doing about a half inch better at 100 yards. M193 types were putting about 2.75moa, and the perfecta was doing around 2.25moa. It's been a while but I think I was getting equivalent performance from freedom munitions 223 reloads.

Usually the WG, IMI, freedom and PPU were bought around 32cpr. While the perfecta was like 30cpr at walmart. I feel most confident with the wolf gold. It tends to shoot the best for me, and runs a few bucks cheaper. PPU is definitely the hottest.

I think the ae223m is exclusive to walmart, where (with ca tax), I walk out the door at 34.7cpr. About equal to paying 32.5cpr online with shipping. So I'm happy. As far as I can tell, it's as close as you can get to m193 without getting brass in your eyes.

Never had any problems with any of the above ammo.

M855 is decent for me when the taxpayers are buying it for me and using an issued rifle. Never had any troubles hitting a B-mod at 500.

For cheaper shooting:

75gr Hornady Steel match

Maybe, PRVI 75gr/69gr match

for 60cpr +/- look for CBC 77gr MK262 clone

otherwise, hand load

Geco Target seems to be pretty accurate and can be found cheap.
