Gun first
Cheap parts AR10, cost about 800 bucks with everything bought on sale. 18" chrome moly eagle arms barrel cut down from 20" with a rifle gas system, SWS rail, 552 EoT (not shown), with krylon. Mags were gen 1 AND Gen 2.
The rounds were the 168 gr TAP with the nickle cases and the new 165 Gr SST loads.
Note COL was a little shorter for the SST 2.74" vesus TAP 2.801, looks like the same primer non crimped. The bullets were also not crimped.
Pulled rounds, 168 AMAX OTS, Pulled TAP and then the SST with cannelure and shorter bullet. You cnat really tell but the base of the bullet for the SST is different than that AMAX
Weights
168 AMAX 167.4
168 TAP 168.0
SST 165.1
SST powder, ball mix with all about the same avg size. Sorry its a fuzzy pic 48.4 grs
TAP powder, stick that looks exactly like varget to me- 44gr
Impressions, One the SST bullet is not built for accuracy. The group was nearly twice the size of the TAP. I was really looking forward to seeing a 168 or even 178 AMAX. This gun loves the 168 AMAX. I know they stress the extra velocity, but I need a better bullet to use that velocity downrange. Not impressed with the bullet.

Thats 118 better in a 18 in barrel, no sings of pressure, very slight/more recoil.

Here are some other velocities I had today to compare. Usually FMJ surplus usually does right around 2600 for me in 18" barrels with a 16" around 2550's or so
Silver bear Note the SB was faster today than the previous day(see below)

Mexican Match-155gr AMAX in FN brass I pulled AP from
Note This was a very accurate load. Which tells me that despite the powder/brass the bullet really does most of the work.

The following is a copy of a
older post about the velocities so you can compare. They are from the same rifle
10 SHOT STRINGS, all the nato rounds with 147 bullets, some were not 10 shots due to wind and a POS chrony
silver bear 09 FMJ, the case neck tension was so poor it cause fails to feed. also a couple bullets fell from the cases, once I crimped they ran fine

Notes
PMC was the worst grouping by far, look at the SD for that stuff, I also flattened all the primers. This leads me to believe the powder they are running is too fast.
The velocities went up as it got warmer, more specifically the rounds got hotter when laying on a black tailgate.
DAG PPU and LC and my 147gr Reloads all grouped about the same 2 moa or so, WCC and SB were next 2-3 moa, then the PMC=RTFO PMC is considered shit IMO. The match round was the best.
The groups were from my knee Irons, at 50 yards with a terrible wind that blew the target as well a me around. I hate ID.
Overall
PMC is wolf IMO for 308- I won't buy this shit again.
SB has been good to me except for this lot I just got. I run it as MG fodder so I don't care about accuracy. Thought I would try it in the AR10. The case neck tension worries me.
PPU is nice but reloading it sux, its way too expensive for what it is
LC is still good stuff, and I love the brass
DAG will be what I hoard/plink with form now on, Im liking it more and more After shooting with a stable platform, this stuff is the best 7.62 surplus I have ever shot, including LC, Aussie, or Port
that is all
