I just want some flippin M855 ammo at a decent price, is that too much to ask for?  Guess not, since everyone wants an arm and a leg for it!  Glad I bought up a bunch (200) rounds of Federal PowerShock  64 gr rounds 5 years ago for $11 a box!

Your Welcome...

I do my best to keep this list up to date at a minimum of at least twice a month @ the 1st & 15th of each month. ARFCOM member Brillo originally started this list almost five years ago, and kept it updated almost daily, but had to give it all up last May. It was in limbo for about a month before I decided to pick up the reigns, then the new editor system went into effect last October & the list went back into limbo for another month. Fixes & changes were made, and now it's back to working correctly. (Thanks again to all the Site Staffers). While there are still a few slight modifications to be made (content wise), the list is for the most part structurally settled. In the future, it may once again get it's own separate thread, but for now it will be reposted to the top of last page of this thread (whenever possible).

Widener's has Prvi 168 grain in stock...$350/500 rds...saw it today (ordered some), have been checkeing for it occasionally for a couple weeks.  Didn't see it posted, but I do see the supply is falling.  Glad I 'bit the bullet' and orderd 1,000 instead of 500...I'll use it soon, don't worry - no hoarding.

ETA: Gone Now...as all things lately, that was fast, guess I just happened to look at the right time.

Pretty nuts for steel case ammo - but given that I can't find brass cased for under $4xx per 1k, I guess it's an okay price for the hoarders.  But damn you can go buy a nice Dillon press for $500 :-)

I went to Cabela's this week. There was plenty of ammo, but at stupid insane prices.

There come a point where, if you raise your prices enough, people will stop buying out all of your inventory on the day of its arrival. I believe Cabela's has found that point.

Local (well stocked) gun store had Q3131 for $440/1K, Federal .223 for $240/500 and $200/400; and Wolf .223 for $140/500. Not great prices by any stretch, but at least they had some.
No 7.62x39, and apparently like everyone else, they are having a hard time getting any, especially Wolf.

No doubt this shit is out of control.  Who are the morons paying over 800.00 for 1k at SG?

I am glad I have not been shopping for 5.56 for a while.  I still have what I consider enough and I have not been going to the range.  I do not currently have a decent range to go to anyway.

But this shit has to cease.

That's a great price for Q3131 according to Midway, who wants $544.50 per k plus shipping.

ETA: It looks like $500 is the new $400. Better bend over and get used to it.

Does anyone know where to find out how much ammunition each of the major ammo manufacturing companies produce each year? I would really like to know if production has been declining or increasing as demand and prices have gone up. With the rumors of Federal laying off employees it would be nice to know what is really going on.
I have searched on line but came up empty. Maybe my searching skills are lacking.

It would be really nice to have a spreadsheet with this information on it covering the last ten years.

I just read in another thread that LC makes 1.6 billion rounds a year.
Can't say about the other companies. But also read that Remington is not even making rounds for the military, they have enought demand from the hunters.

It seems like Cabelas is having a run on their website for ammo. I tried to buy some PMC .223 and some 9mm today (using Cabelas points) all the 9mm I tried to get was backordered. The PMC said it was instock so I got it, then the email I received said it was backordered.

It is going quick.  They had over 2200+ battle packs (200 rounds each) earlier today.  Now they are down to just over 1700 packs.  They have moved about 100 K rounds in the last few hours.  I bet that pile of ammo is gone in 3 or 4 days.

If it didn't have crimped primers, I might buy yet another thousand rounds.  Anybody know if the 69gr has crimped primers?  I know the 75 gr doesn't, but wasn't sure about the 69's.

I listened to Tom Gresham's Gun Talk yesterday.  The owner of Georgia Arms was talking about the apparent requirement by the DOD to mutilate expended brass purchased by re-manufacturers.  Tom spent nearly two hours hitting the issue from various angles and getting fired up.  I got fired up and started writing a letter to my socialist U.S. Representative in Oregon this morning.  When I decided it would be nice to provide the Representative some detail about DOD DRMS (Defense Reutilization Marketing Offices).  I tracked down the following website:  http://www.drms.dla.mil/html/drmo_sites.html.

From there, I went to the following link:  http://www.govliquidation.com/.

I conducted a search for "brass" "5. 56" "expended", etc.  There seems to be something to Georgia Arms' claim.  However, not all lots of expended brass up for auction required mutilation.  While, this may be forboding, there may be a perfectly innocent explanation.  I can't imagine that the anti-gunner weenies would have devised such as underhanded plan to skyrocket ammo prices this fast in such a esoteric way––but, Georgia Arms just provided them the idea...

Georgia Arms, how about getting an official (and un-official) explanation for the mutilation requirement before "jumping the gun."

Tom Gresham:  This deserves a little investigative journalism before calling out the dogs.

Hill Man

Update 3/23/09 (if you care):  It would seem that the DOD tried the mutilation requirement but gunowners quickly jumped down their back, thanks to Gun Talk Radio (Tom Gresham) and Georgia Arms.  When I was checking this on the Monday following Tom Gresham's reporting, there were expended brass auctions that did not require mutilation.

I went to four different Wal-Mart stores today and didn't find a single damn box of .45 ACP. They had plenty of .40S&W and a couple places had .357 magnum. WTF? Shortage yes, but who the fuck is shooting up all the .45?! I just got a 1911 in January... Need ammo.

It's a shame I didn't get my taxes done a week earlier, I could've jumped on this batch of Prvi M193 at Widener's as long as all my estimations are right... And even if they're not I'd get at least a battle pack or two.

Bigger doesn't mean better.  I don't trust 75 gr in my 1:9 twist for long range, and I'd rather have 5.56 than 2.23 (75gr).

The dry boxes are better used for something other than ammo though.

Just got back from Gander Mountain. They had 1,000 round boxes of Wolf with no price except $11.99 a box of 20rds, I saw 599 on my phone calculator at walked away.

Bought two boxes of Wolf Military Classic for $6.99 and two boxes of American Eagle Tactical XM193C for $11.99.

UMC Remington was $14.99 for 20rds of .223.

Hopefully I can find a deal at the gun show this weekend.

I have decided to boycott Gander Mtn....they are selling UMC 200 rnd boxes for $150, while Bass Pro, less than a mile away is selling it for $120.  Price gouging at it's best.

Hi Folks, first post!

As for Gander Mountain....disgust.  An organized boycott of those folks would be a good thing.

These people are the ones that should be supporting gun owners as we're one of the main reasons those giant stores can stay afloat yet they are gouging the hell out of customers like they are trying to make every last penny on us before the gun/ammo market collapses.  I was there last weekend looking for .223 and 6.8 spc. The prices on even plain old wolf or umc were outrageous. Don't even get me started on the prices on the Hornandy TAP rounds. 35 dollars a box..of 20 for .223?!  They don't even carry 6.8 spc.

There were folks walking up and down the aisles either laughing or griping about the prices. You'd hear "fleet farm has these for half this" "Dunham's has these exact same ones for 10.00 less" etc...

My father picked up a bushmaster in 6.8 spc 3 months ago and they finally got him 2...boxes of ammo. They charged him 40 something per box and were trying to charge him 80.00 for each extra magazine. On top of that the salesguy talked him into some generic rail for 450.00 bucks.

It's just astounding how much they get away with charging....but more astounding that so many people pay.
