My current build is going to be motivated by the CAR-15 used by special forces in somalia in 92/93. i'm calling it my black hawk down carbine. i now have it down to needing era appropriate accessories.
i need.. 1. flashlight & barrel mount 2. A2 carry handle mount & red dot 3. sling 4. car cheek piece is there a way i can find out which contractors produced these items back in the early 90's? |

Anyone have a lead on the Surefire barrel mounts for flashlights? Do they even make them anymore? While not BHD era, I have an ARMS 30mm carry handle mount on the way for my RO723 and am now looking for a light mount.

I'd like to apologize for misinformation.
Spoke to Larry Vickers today, who told me that the 2000 and 5000 were in use by Delta during Gothic Serpent. He said the 3000 was unpopular due to the knob being easily broken. 5000 became the standard once it was received. |

I just looked at mine again, it's a Mk. III, not a 3000. I don't think the Mk III was used much by SF but maybe one of the resident experts/btdtgats(been there done that got a t shirt) guys will advise further. The Mk III on an Ultralux makes my 727 very top heavy. Never handled one with the 3000/5000 on it. |

What's the difference between the knobs on the 3000 vs the 5000? They look very similar to me. I have two 3000's. One is on my BHDish carbine.

I've noticed something about this thread. Quite often someone will make a post but it will not appear in the thread. It just bumps the thread and shows on the main feed that ____ replied. Anyone know why this is? It appears that the post will not show up until another reply is made.
Update: I used my last reply as an example. It would not show up in the thread until another post was made. |

Wow, I wasn't sure how a mid length could've been made into a BHD build but you did it extremely well. Nice!
Also, for those of you building these, eBay has been a goldmine for period correct Aimpoints lately. Besides my own, there have been 4-5 others listed... so make that 8 Aimpoints available right now versus a few months ago when I couldn't find any! |

The moderator indexed over the barrel, which ended right where the flash-hider part started so as to maintain as much muzzle velocity as possible. The barrel length ended up being something funky and the moderator was pinned for 16" OAL. Such a long time ago. |

Great looking transitional carbine. Love the wear on the receiver extension and the peel washer. Nice touch. I built one very similar a few years ago with an AIMPOINT 1000 and C7 upper. I eventually tore it down to build my M4. Wishing I hadn't sold my Colt CMB A2 upper with M4 feed ramps last year to build a 727.
I found the pics of mine on page 13 of this thread half way down. In case you were interested. |

It's a pair of machine screws (and washers) through the handguard holes, held by square nuts on the outside. The hose clamps have hols cut in them to allow for the machine screw to pass through. Bicycle tubing keeps the vibration down and the fit tight against the handguard. That little bump you see on the side is a cobbled-together push switch installed locally and routed underneath the bicycle tubing.
