SLR15 lower receivers are now available.
Cost is $165 (MSRP) Custom Serial Numbers $20 Custom Engraved Logos on the right side of the magazine well and custom serial number if you wish $50 These are machined from T6 7075 Aluminum Forgings. They are Cryo treated before and after machining. These have a deep bevel to the magazine well for feeding and feature checkering on the front of the magazine well for grip. The magazine well is broached so the walls are thicker and stronger. The buffer tube threading is reamed and bored which keeps alignment at less than one ten thousandths of an inch variance for proper alignment. These include a Sully Trigger Guard. can we get some pics of the mag well and the checkering? BTW - this looks great!!!

How bought a pic of the other side. Lets get all the angles covered because I know I am not the only one interested.
Thanks. |
|
Any chance of different caliber markings ?? Or how about "Multi" ?? Better yet, how about custom caliber markings ?? I want a ".40 Auto" marked lower bad !!
|
|
Can you premark/engrave them as an SBR? That way they arrive engraved and ready to go.
|
|
+1 Back to my original question and thanks for quick response. |
|
|
We have some that are already marked 5.56, and some marked Multi. We can do other caliber and SBR markings upon request. The pics that I have posted so far were professionally done. I did take some pictures last night, don't worry I won't quit my day job, that I will have our in house computer person post for me since I am computer challenged.

Sully,
Can I purchase directly through you and have it shipped to my FFL, or will they be sold through distributors? Also, whom is making them, Superior Arms, or someone else? |
|
These are all machined and engraved in house by our staff. They may be purchased direct and sent to the FFL of your choice. I took some photos and have given them to one of our computer people to edit and get them hosted, so hopefully soon we will have some pics to show you of the right side, underside, magwells, and comparison photos of machine work (again I took these and my photo skills have come from evidence gathering at crime scenes, so yes I won't quit my day job).

Can I get one as a pistol lower, properly recorded and such?
|
|
Thanks for the prompt response. Once I see more photos I'll pretty much be sold. Must take P-Mags, as well. Erik |

We can mark it as pistol if you wish. CY6 Greg Sullivan "Sully" SLR15 Rifles TheDefensiveEdge.com |

I promised some more pics. Again I took these here in the shop and I won't quit my day job for a photography career. We have some professionally done images coming and are awaiting for those to arrive, once they get in from editing etc we will get them posted. Where is Stickman when you need him?
I had our in house Internet Guru get these hosted as I'm computer challenged. Left side of receiver Magazine well comparison from top view. The receiver on the top is made by a large manufacturer, and the one on the bottom is ours. On the top receiver you will notice the side of the interior of the magazine well, you will see square cuts that are located about 1/2" from each corner and at the magazine catch area. These square cuts on the sides of the magazine well can indicate that this is milled out, as the square cuts (stress relief cuts) are done to reduce the stress while milling out the magazine well. These square cuts also thin the walls, plus square cuts can be a weakness as heavy stress can cause square corners to crack. Our receiver doesn't have these stress relief cuts (corners) as we broach cut them. The broach method that we use allows us to make the walls thicker and stronger, and yes they will accept Magpul PMags!!! Magazine Well comparison from the bottom. The receiver on top is made by a large manufacturer, and the one on the bottom is ours. You will again notice the square stress cuts on the top picture. You will notice the broach cut on the lower picture, our receiver. You will also notice the area on the underside of the trigger and in front of the trigger on the top receiver that it has excess metal, where ours (bottom receiver) has been machined cleaner, plus compare the machining where the front of the trigger guard locks into and compare the two. View from top of trigger group area. Receiver on the left is made by a large manufacturer, and the one on the right is ours. Notice the thickness of the walls on ours as compared to the thinner walls on the receiver on the left. View from the top comparison of the buffer tube threads. The receiver on the right is made by a large manufacturer, notice that the buffer tube threads go all the way through past the buffer retaining detent. When the threads go past the buffer retaining detent, this indicates that this was most likely threaded using a tap. When a tap is used for this machining step, it could possibly be off in any one direction which could cause the buffer tube to be off in any one direction. If the buffer tube is off in any one direction it could cause the bolt carrier assembly to rub against the inside of the buffer tube. The receiver on the left is ours, you will notice that the threads stop about half way through the buffer detent area. When we machine the top of the receiver we establish this as our water table and all other machining steps are based on this. When we machine the top of the receiver and establish this water table, the buffer tube threads are then reamed and bored, which gives us a tolerance of less than one ten thousands of an inch that the buffer tube is kept in line with. Underside back grip area comparison. The receiver on the left is made by a large manufacturer, notice the excess metal in the middle. The receiver on the right is ours, notice the cleanliness. I like it, a lot.
I'm a little put off by the engravings, seems like it needs to be thinned down a little. I do like the finish, it's FANTASTIC and the lines are very, very, very clean. You guys really did a great job cleaning it up from a raw forging. I think I'm going to pick one up at some point soon. Also, are the forgings Superior? Erik |
|
I wasn't aware that Superior made forgings. The ones in these pics are Cerro forgings.

Alrighty, well the only reason I ask is because I've had nothing but problems with their crap, and I know they make stuff for others.
You'll be seeing my money soon. Erik |

We used to outsource machining on receivers. Some of it was great and some of it wasn't. After rejecting over 85% of what was coming into us for being out of spec is when we decided to machine our own in house. So we acquired a CNC, spent about 9months working on writing our own programming alone, then building fixtures etc to maching them. Then we acquired a CNC router just for engraving. Now we are machining all our receivers in house and have finished product that is ready to go that we are happy with.

Sounds like a long and thankless job, but the end result looks solid. The devil really is in the details, and people who are looking for a lower which is a cut above the rest should appreciate that. |

Sully,
Do you make your own flat-top upper receivers to similar beefed up tolerances like the lowers? Are they forged? |
|
We do not manufacture upper receivers at this time, although it is on the list.
We wiill not offer lower receivers without all of our markings and logos on the left side. CY6 Greg Sullivan "Sully" SLR15 Rifles TheDefensiveEdge.com |

Are this lowers a standard item or are they only available on a limited basis?
I could not find them on your website. Walli |

The link to lowers is here. We are making them available for now and plan on having some available in the future. CY6 Greg Sullivan "Sully" SLR15 Rifles TheDefensiveEdge.com |

I picked up one of Sully's lowers on Friday, and I'll have to say these are really nice! Very well made, no seam lines. The finish is a very distinctive true black. It mates very tight with RR and Colt uppers. The finish matches closer to the RR, but is a different shade than the Colt black. I have not put it together yet, but both Mag Pul and standard mags seem to fit and fall out on their own.
This is my first non Colt lower and I'll have to say they are very nice. I may order another on Monday. Has anyone compared these to a LMT MRP? If so, how close does the finish match? Does anyone know of any other upper that matches well with these? |
|
The photos showing the build and finish are quite impressive and portray visual quality.
I agree with a statement made earlier that the logo and markings are a little too pronounced. I would like to own a couple. |

Very nice, but I have more AR's than just 5.56 and I don't want my completed rifle to have Lower written on the side. Again, this is one of the sweetest forged lowers that I've seen to date. Hell who else cryogenically treats their lowers? On some of the other threads it was mentioned that we have done a run of MULTI marked lowers in case this might better suit your needs. Greg,
Just received my SLR15 lower and it is definitely the best made lower that I've seen. However, I do have a question regarding the "extra" threaded hole behind the hole used by the grip screw. None of the lowers I've built in the past have this extra hole and I can't figure out what it is for and what to do with it. Can you tell me what it is for? Thank you! Francis |

Francis The extra hole is threaded for a set screw. The set screw is for trigger adjustment, it allows you to adjust the trigger creep/uptake. Assemble the lower receiver. Next cock the hammer. Put medium strength loctite or nail polish on the set screw. Tighten the set screw all the way in so that the safety selector will not move. Slowly back the set screw out until the safety selector moves freely, this will take all the trigger creep/uptake out, if you wish more trigger creep/uptake then simply back the set screw out some more until find the adjustment that you like. I just ordered one. I like the take-up screw and thickened walls. If I like it as much as I think I will, I may order a few more. This one is for my first build, and will eventually be the lower on my CMP rifle. Kudos on the innovations.

got one for my 1st build and like it very much. highly recommend

I just finished my first build and it is great. Even with the factory trigger group, the trigger pull is great. I love the take-up feature.
