This morning my long anticipated Colt Model 605 (clone) returned from John Thomas at Retro Arms Works. As usual John never disappoints me. Turn around was way less than the 10 days he advertises. The rifle itself is a little bit of every thing. Nodak Spud, LLC 604 upper and XM177E1 partial lower receiver. The D stock, pistol grip, and hand guards are correct for their time period. The barrel was a cut down Colt A1 to the proper 15" length. Bolt carrier group is a new M16 chromed Fulton-Armory with no serrations. Lower and upper small parts are all Colt.

Soon I'll be doing some range time with this new to me product and will be posting range results. Also, a thanks to Boy Wonder, and Slim at Indiana Surplus for small parts and a few other small items. Thx for looking! Sorry for the so so pictures. I do my best.

Looks good. I am still waiting on my XM16E1 lower from NDS. Harlan said it will probably be in October. The upper has already been done and tested. JT does good work. You should have stellar performance from yours.

Sweet.  I like the 605 for some reason too.

You guys are killing me with these 604.5  I regret not picking up one of the project Colt barrels from Fulton Armory when they're $150 a pop for one of these 604.5 project.  Now FA wants $300 bucks

Sickening isn't it? My 605 barrel was from Fulton Armory for $139 plus shipping. And the gas ports were opened to .110 for a Model 605 build. Feel your pain. Maybe Futon Armory will run a special again?

R.A.W. is catchy. Yeah he ruined my barrel like that too. Now i really like it!

Very nice.

The 605 style is my favorite configuration.

I appreciate the kudo's guys. Thanks. This rifle hasn't even been fired yet and it's already growing on me due to everyone's positive remarks. I hope my first experience is a good one. Hopefully I'll get some trigger time in before Labor Day weekend?

ar15guy: I almost had Mr. Thomas paint mine the same color as yours. I dig that retro green. All your 605's look great! Thanks for sharing.

It's obvious what sling my 605 is sporting Morg. GP, is that a M1/M14 style sling? Thx!

The 605 is one of the smoothest-handling AR15 variants there is, since it has RLGS with very little dwell time, especially with 55gr.

I've shot 69gr and even 75gr through mine, and it seems to stabilize them well, but I'm at higher altitude also.

Nope- just a period sling made from a basic GP strap and some 550 cord. I could be wrong, but I think Doc Mike's tutorial is now pinned somewhere... it's the simplest, fastest, cheapest sling I've ever used.

On a 605:

On an A2/M4: (I posted this so you could see the sling better)

Thx Morg, I remember that thread well. And where do find these GP slings shown?

You can usually find them on ebay, although not like you used to. You want the older, cotton OD ones, not the newer nylon ones, although they work well too.
