I've searched the archives and still can't find a definitive answer as to whether or not a 12.5" Daniel Defense barrel will make the 16.1" legal length with Brick's moderator and grenade ring.

Does anyone know for absolute sure?

This drawing from Brick, reflects a quick check of overall barrel length, not the length measured from the bolt face

My moderator from Brick is slightly shorter than the one in his drawing above and my grenade ring is slightly more than the 0.100" indicated in the notes. Let's be conservative and say 4.330" plus 0.100" for the grenade ring, giving a total of 4.430".

4.330  + 0.100" = 4.430"

Subtract 0.625" for thread engagement

4.430" - 0.625" = 3.805"

Add this to your barrel length

12.500" + 3.805" = 16.305" barrel length with moderator attached

ETA: I just checked several barrels for thread length.  I found 0.623" to 0.630".

So going with 0.630" thread length, like Brick's drawing above, you would have 16.300" barrel length with moderator attached

Now somebody double check my math

I think brick said 12,75 or 12 .78 remember you lose about a 1/2 inch when you get it together.

12.5 Lothar Walther .625 barrel, brick grenade ring, bushmaster muzzle device, I used a crush washer under the grenade ring when I welded it, just a touch over 16.2"

You Guerrilla thinking bastard you...

I wonder how many times this has been asked in this forum? This is one of the things one of our newer members wished tacked in a recent thread. I for one would applaud this. OP - good luck with the build, and don't forget to post pics, or it didn't happen.

I wish it was tacked when I started. I got a smoking deal on that barrel in the ee a few years ago. I played with parts until I found out that I could make it work.

I went with the 12.75" barrel length and ended up right around 16.25" OAL with Brick's moderator and grenade ring attached.

12.5 will work, but I like to have a 16" barrel cut short enough to be 16.1 overall. in that case a 12.5 would actually be too long for my taste. Heatnbeat is a master at cutting it close
