There's another source for pencil barrels.

Daniel Defense is offering cold hammer forged pencil barrels.
DD CHF lightweight barrels.

Edited...We don't link to that site...VA-gunnut.

ETA: Sorry for linking where I wasn't supposed to.

Believe these are .750 under the FSB.

Ooooh. I want one of those 12.5" w/FSB for an IDF build! Dammit, this RBRD sucks...

+1

copied from the site:

Pencil barrels use a .625 Gas Block. Govt Profile barrels use a .750.
FSB's are F rated.

now all we need is a mid-length lightweight

After this 653, I'll use the lw 10.3 or have the 11.5 reprofiled for a 177e2

Hmm, a DD 16" pencil barrel for $308.00 or the Bushmaster 16" pencil barrel for $235.00.....

Is there really a quantatative issue that makes the DD barrel worth an extra $110.00 dollars?
Or am I just a cheap old fart?

COLD-HAMMER FORGED

Inherently more accurate than standard barrels...

My bad.

I guess I was thinking of the BCM "lightweights"

Is there a list somewhere of sites we are not supposed to link to, or are we just supposed to know it intuitively. And just out of pure curiosity, exactly WHY do we not link to that site?

They tried to go behind-the-scenes and arrange for other dealers to secretly get involved in a price-fixing scheme.  The other dealers that were contacted to price-fix spilled the beans and things went ugly from there...

Well at my age and wearing bifocals dang near everything shoots better than I do lately.
I'll talk to my eagle eyed son, maybe it will make a difference to him, and Thanks for the headsup.

Well, okay.  I hadn't heard of that, but if true (and I don't dispute it), I understand the excommunication.

Nice but the cold hammer forged deal adds too much to the bottom line. I recently went with a DD chrome lined M4 barrel over the CHF for this reason. Not worth the added cost to me. That said DD's are great barrels. +1 for a lightweight middie. Been looking at the RRA barrel.

just be aware that the RRA lightweight middy uses a .750 fsb

So, will the F height FSB cause any problems with a fixed carry handle upper like a Colt A1 or C7?

You might have to crank the front sight post down a bit more than usual for some zeros.  Worst case scenario, you'll have to shorten the front post and paint or blue the bare metal.

More importantly, when are they going to come out with a 1/9 or 1/7 20" pencil barrel?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I would say never on the  9twist. I plan on calling anyhow about my 6.8 build with them and inquire about complete stcks––that would be the ticket there!

Yeah I'm aware its a seven-five-O. Very cool barrel just the same. Thinking it might be neat to try it on an NDS-32 based build.
