Ok, I finished this early this year but never got around to posting pics. Everyone likes pic threads and I'm bored so here were go...

Specs:

NDS lower with RRA LPK
Colt A1 upper
Bushy Super lightweight barrel with moderator work done by 45Bravo
EA 2 pos stock
A1 front sight post
Upper and buffer tube reanodized by Victor at US Anodizing
CAR handguards were matte by have started wearing glossy in several places

In this second pic, you can see the slight color variation in the upper and lower. Both were done in XM gray by Victor. Victor says the difference is in the type of aluminum used for the castings. I defer to his expertise. The pic makes the variation appear greater than it actually is.

Dixie the Retro-Doodle likes it too!

Many thanks to everyone here who answered all my questions. Thanks also go out to frankieb, Shade00 and ETERNALWARRIOR for some of the parts.

Now I gotta finish this IDF clone that TexSquirrel has inspired me to build...

Thanks, m1sniper. Actually, I know a guy that I think can help me with the sling.

Very nice job.
Thanks for the delayed unveiling.
That carbine deserved to be posted.
Cool accessories too.

I never get tired of picture posts.

BRAVO!  That's bad-a$$.

Well done cloning.  Very nice carbine there.

Very nice!  I need to do a carbine soon.  They are sexy!

I hope mine turns out as well as yours did.

That is one neat little carbine

Nicely done.  I think the E2's are the best choice and most realistic for a non-NFA carbine build.

Looks great!

Is the FH pinned on the barrel for the legal length?

+1 looks perfect.

Keep an eye on it.   They reproduce like rabbits.

Thanks for all the positive comments folks! There are one or two things I would do differently now but overall I think it turned out nicely - mostly due to the resources here in the Retro Forum!

hk45shooter - yes, the moderator is pinned and welded to give an OAL bbl length of 16.1 inches.

Very nice. Dixie looks pretty happy with it too!

Is that "Kill a Commie for Mommy" on the helmet?

Why, yes! Yes, it is! Very good eye, MarkRSims! The wife frowns on the Playboy Bunny so I went with choice #2.

Very nice!  She's a beauty!

Isn't that a funny thing... I felt like there was one or two things I might have done differently afterwards on my build also.

Nice carbine.  I'm almost there, too.  Just waiting on parts and cool pictures like this make it even harder to wait.  The mailman hates me like a barking dog because I chase him down everyday "hey, are you sure there aren't any packages for me?".

What are the one or two things you guys would have done differently?

Love the gun! That thing turned out really nice.

I know I've collected my share of surplus junk equipment but the radio is really cool. Any idea if it still works? Not that you'd probably have too many people on the other end to talk to.

RLR350 - What would I do differently next time?

1) Have the lower done by Ident Marking with some roll marks.

2) Have the visible parts of the LPK done by Victor. The finish LOOKS fine with the naval jelly treatment but it will rust if you don't keep a good bit of oil on it.

Overall, I'm very happy with it

DocMike - Actually, the PRC-25 was working at one point. I got it from Old Grouch on the old EE board. It has since developed a glitch and isn't transmitting. I haven't gotten around to having it looked at yet. I was able to pick up a TV station that was transmitting in the lower end of the spectrum and listened to a basketball game on it for a while.

Thanks.  I'm interested in seeing how yours shoots; accuracy and muzzle blast.  It's should be a lot of fun.

I think I've got the other things covered, appreciate the tips.  The lower is at Ident.  All of the small steel parts are with Victor along with the Delta ring, extension and CH.  Now I will have to get that cool radio.......I've got the dog .

Have a good Thanksgiving week!

Doesn't 45Bravo do a moderator where the end of the barrel actually sits just behind the moderator's flash holes? i.e. he doesn't cut the barrel length, just mounts the base of the moderator further back to look like it's a shorter barrel.

Yes!

It gives you more actual barrel (about 15 inch) while still coming near the real XM177E1 overall length.  The moderator is pinned and welded so you don't have to go the SBR route.

45Bravo did the barrel for my Son Tay GAU clone which has become one of my favorite EBR.
