Alright people, I know you got them, we wanna see them!! Post pics of your complete or work in progress retro "commando"! Barrel length can be anywhere from 10" to 14.5". 16" clones are welcome too. Let's see 'em!

Here's my XM177E2 project:

And all the parts I have for it :

Specs so far:
BRAND NEW (no hits from brass rear of the ejection port!) looking Colt M16A1 upper
Colt Model 733 barrel
Unknown MFG 2 position aluminum buttstock (may be Bushy)
Mottled A1 pistol grip
DPMS bolt carrier group (not shown)
TSI XM177E2 grenade ring (not shown)
Colt 20 round magazine

P.S. I dont own a lower yet and the barrel is not attatched and I have no way of attatching it so yeah.

Post pics, guys!!

My Troy XM177E2 everything is stock except for the BCG, mag catch and release button, handguards, selector, and the ejection port door those are all Colt parts I had left over from a previous project.

Built an XM177E2 with mostly Brownell's parts, some original Colt parts (handguards, slip ring, receiver extension nut, pistol grip, selector) and an Essential Arms stock. Then I decided to paint it up in Rhodesian camo for something a little different - picked up a kit from Arizona Response System and then lightly weathered it per Mark's tutorial. Now to go out and shoot it...

90% Colt with a S3G trigger.   Been stopped at the range several times, because people thought it was full auto.

What is considered a shorty?
605 the property line or is it too long?

I know the top handguards are rifle units but what about the bottom two?

Here's my 'retro' registered SBR.  Israeli ACOG I got off the EE here, Surefire flashlight grips (on the fence on these), and Surefire mount (I have since received the SF can out of NFA jail).   That's a LaRue trigger, and I did add a QD rear plate for my sanity.

Drool, drool!

About got the parts for a couple of builds. I wish there was a thread on a DIY
607 stock build. Definitely going the shorty and the 605 route eventually.

Edit to add: I wish all of the old pictures could be restored somehow.

I haven't spent much time here in quite a while so I decided to go back and look at this thread from the beginning.

They say that "once you put something out on the internet it's there for ever."

Whoever said that never tried to look at pictures at the beginning of this thread!!!

Where did you find the mid length triangular handguard? I have been looking unsuccessfully for one for a while.

I cut down a rifle one this weekend.  Thanks to two gentlemen in the other thread. I used JB weld and cut off about an inch off the top. Then cut it beside the original A2 handguard for length. Turned out better than expected.

Basically the top section sits inside the bottom courtesy of JBWeld and a little Dremel work.

Well, it's not exactly a clone, but it is a shorty. Props to ADCO for reprofiling the 7.5'' barrel to pencil profile and the folks at SMF Tactical out in Vegas were responsible for the cutdown triangle handguards. And of course, Jhud for his marvelous M231 stock assembly and HKILLER for the finishing. It's not exactly pleasant to firebut that's exactly why I installed a Surefire SOCOM flash hider, as it's crying out for a suppressor.
