Appointed President of ArmaLite in Feb. 2014, champion 3-gun shooter Tommy Thacker is pumping his passion and knowledge for modern sporting rifles into the development of new firearms. Pictured here with the actual rifle he uses in competition, his 3-gun rifle is becoming a new catalog offering in 2015. Thacker is leading a motivated staff of engineers with his 20 years of firearm industry experience. Thacker has owned a number of smaller businesses in the industry from gun shops to a training company. He’s an avid hunter, competitor and active 2nd amendment advocate.

Hopefully they keep some of their "old" catalog, too.

They had an upper at Perry this year that I went to drool at several times. I'd love to actually buy one next year at Perry. (Heavy profile 20", IIRC. DAMN sexy, if heavy)

They already introduced the AR10A that uses straight SR25 mags years ago, and have been selling them for a while now.

Almost every 7.62x51 rifle on that wall has a PMAG in it if you look.

The A2 was the first AR-10 that I bought and sadly I turned it into an A4 and then sold it. That was the last firearm I have sold and vowed I will never sell another. I wished I still had it.

Market:  Armalite has traditionally focused on NRA National Match competition - which is based on older, out-dated, military marksmanship training - particularly the U.S.M.C.

That training teaches the BASICS - and I won't argun the value in that; there IS value.  But it is not as valuable as it one was - particularly since NM competition focuses on IRON SIGHTS.

NM competition is not going anywhere.  But is isn't growing as fast as 3gun / Multigun.  And the skills on display in 3gun / Multi gun seem more appealing to our .mil folks, including combat vets - more appealing than what they do in NM shooting anyway.

The equipment in 3gun is also a lot closer to what our soldiers actually use.  Bring an M4 with a RDS to a 3gun and you can compete; don't try the same at a NM shoot.  That is just the way things are headed.

Tommy is a great guy and one hell of a shooter.  I think he is trying to balance Armalite's reputation for quality/accuracy with what the LARGEST SEGMENT of the market is willing to pay for.  He is running a business and he MUST consider the bottom line.

I wish Noveske was still alive. God rest his soul, and he would would swear on his N6 vs all other 308 AR variants. I believe he might be the only one that still believes in the Armalite platform AR10. Nowadays everyone is turning to SR25/DPMS platform. Even Aero precision, They used to have AR10 lowers.

Damn if only I could find an armalite ar10 BCG. But I'm biased

They (or their dealers/distributors) used to do a lot in this area for the youth NM teams which was really cool.  I was turned off by the use of straight pins instead of tapers in the FSB.  Snobbish, I know.

Already legal in NRA matches. Any rifle with an optic IS legal in NRA matches and even counts towrads classification.

If im not mistaken  b models can use aluminum armalite mags and modded m14 mags Correct

A models can use the original armalite waffle mags AND pmags as some of the A models actually ship with pmags. They can also use some other 3rd party mags I`ve successfully used PMAGs, KAC, DPMS SR 25 pattern mags in my AR-10A

They already introduced the AR10A that uses straight SR25 mags years ago, and have been selling them for a while now.

Almost every 7.62x51 rifle on that wall has a PMAG in it if you look.

B models---original armalite mags

A models---pmag compatible

No.  B models modified M14 mags

A models original Armalite mags

Never seen a second gen (B model) aluminum AR10 mag.

This is correct:
No. B models modified M14 mags

A models original Armalite mags

I'm not sure the last statement of "A" models only using original Armalite mags is correct.  I'm an Armalite owner...two B models...but I'm not fully versed in all Amalite variants...especially right now as they're listing new guns for 2015.  If you look on the Armalite site right now, you'll see various models under the "A"model tab.  Some or all of the A models appear to use 3rd party mags like P-mags and such.  It's somewhat confusing right now, but Armalite is clearly stating which mag each rifle is compatible with.  The confusion may be the fact that the "A" model seems to have developed more variations over time.  I could be wrong.

It's not that there are variations of the A model, it's that the A model takes a metric ton of magazines that are all built to the same format (original AR10, then SR25, then DPMS and Magpul).  There are dozens, if not more, companies that make magazines that will fit in an A model (or any of the competition).

The B model is only ban era Armalites, using only modified M14 mags, or the bastard children thereof.
