Looks good so far.

You know it's funny because I just ordered a Noveske N6 lower so that I can build it AFTER I build my 6.8 but I haven't even bought the first part for it yet.  I think I feel a case of BRD setting in

How does it break down in cost so far?

Were are you getting the barrel from?  I just started my build and am looking for a descent barrel.  Does anyone know if the Fulton armory barrels are any good?  I see Jp has barrels too, but they may be a little over my price range.

Well, if they are Krieger, then a big yes. Do they also use or make a different barrel for their FARs? I think the answer is yes, but I'm not positive.

I talked to Fulton Armory Friday about barrels and receivers. I'm thinking of converting my 18.5" Titan into a side charger which would leave me with an extra upper receiver, BCG, and charging handle. I thought maybe I'd buy a 16" light weight barrel and a hand guard and I'd have a new upper to go with a proposed G3 lower from CMMG. The FA barrels are Criterion by Krieger and all have the full length gas system and that includes the 16" model. They believe that is really important, Maybe true, but I'm after the light weight look and feel of the DPMS AP4, so I'm weighing the pros and cons.

What length gas system does the AR15Performance have and what models are available? Any suggestions? I'll PM Constructor from the 68forums.com site, too.

Kerry

Edited for spelling

Ha! I misspelled 'for'!

How heavy is your gun with the 18.5" barrel?  I'm looking at keeping my build under 10lbs.

Well... heavy. It wasn't too bad until I added the VLtor swivel and tilt bipod and the scope, but that pushed it over the edge into 'heavy'. My scale says 14.2 lbs with the Bushnell 6500 Elite and the bipod. On the ground, no problem, from the shoulder? It's a challenge. Change the bipod and we're probably close to your target.

Edited: Just weighed the rifle without the bipod and it's 10.8 pounds including Picatinny rails on all four sides.

Heavy, but manageable. And very well made and accurate!

That's what I'm hoping with this next build, too. Where are you getting the Pac Nor? I'm wanting to mate it with the G3 Lower from CMMG.

DPMS showed them as 'In stock' over the weekend, along with almost all 308 parts except barrels and complete BCGs.

I would like to know the difference in weight between the light weight upper and the standard?  I wouldn't think it would be much, but than again I have a standard A3 that I got from Midway and it does seem pretty chunky.

I talked to Fulton armory today. My plan was to get them to upgrade my 18.5" Titan to a side cocker and I would use my left over standard BCG and upper receiver on a new light weight build to (hopefully) go with the new CMMG DPMS G3 Lower. They informed me that in 2-3 weeks they will have a chromoly, chrome lined, light weight, minimum safe profile, 18.5" barrels (they REALLY believe 18.5" is the way to go) available for their Titan. Needless to say, I am all over that. They are willing to take my existing Titan, convert it to a Side Cocker, and use the left overs to build a light weight upper.

Excellent...

Doing the same but I went with Armalite...I got my eye on a barrel but I don't have the money for it right now. I should have mine done after the first of the year as I get the cash...

I do like the looks and lines of the DPMS though....

Starting a new build myself , just picked up DPMS lower at a good price and this 308 build is a bit different than the old std. AR15's  .I have a few questions , since I bought the DPMS lower ,I'm sticking with it .

You mention Fulton Armory , are there or could there bbl,s be chambered for 7.62/51 or just com. 308 ?

I really do not want a lite weight bbl.,how about a med. weight or heavy, maybe S/S ?

Can I install the bbl ( of course I know I will have to get diff. install tools ,diff. from AR15's )or do I have to ship it to them  ?

OK 18.5 sounds good to me , what hand guards/float tubes will work ?

Sights with the A3 upper ?

I know its a lot of  newbie questions , but I like to know whats out there before I buy and maybe regret later . Lot of good info at this sight for a lot of things.

Interesting. This is exactly what I trying to figure out this afternoon and I was feeling pretty dumb. I researched it on the DPMS site, the YHM site, and the Fulton Armory site, but I got nothing concrete.

Is there a difference between an AR15 type FF hand guard and an LR308 hand guard besides (I suppose) the barrel mounting hardware? I ask because I have a perfectly good YHM 12.5" Lightweight four rail hand guard on a Kotonics 6.8 and I've never liked it. But it would be perfect on my Lightweight 308 upper build. Can anyone say with certainty that this possible and if so, what pieces I will need to get?

New info:

1) Looking at some basic measurements, I think the hand guards are different, so i withdraw the question.

2) DPMS tells me that the Lightweight upper receiver is .5 lb lighter than standard with no loss of rigidity or functionality.
