I am building a retro rifle, and have all save the bolt/carrier and charging handle.

Lower's slabside, upper's A1, 3-prong, chrome bore.  Very "E1" looking with early non-trapdoor buttstock.

Anyway, I'll be using a CMT bolt, but need a chrome-plated carrier so I can see it when the port door's open ;)

Who's making these now - Ameetec, who else? Comments on quality of machining and/or proper staking of key screws, etc?  Thank you.

Where can I find the young match carrier?

DPMS is the worst.

Young/LBC is the best.

The LBC is made for them by Young.  You can find them in the EE.

AMEETEC ARMS has Chrome Carriers and they're made by Young Mfg.

I've got two of these in my Sabre Defence uppers. They are very high quality, clean up VERY easily, and I've never had a problem with them!

The Young/LBC is a great carrier.  Part number 939-000-001 at Brownells.

Smith Enterprise also makes a nice one.  Part number 851-110-016 at Brownells.

They are both machined from 8620 steel, hardened to Rc 58.

THanks - for some reason I thought the SEI was no longer made. Added to my favorites list.

I’d like to build a retro type rifle too and have a chrome plated carrier.

I used to have a PWA parts rifle that had a YM fluted NM carrier in it and it was great, but I don’t care for the fluting. Reading about their slick side carriers that don’t have a cut out for the ejection port cover makes that a non-option.

Going to the SEI website, it doesn’t look like they’re offering their chrome B/BC parts any longer, Brownells does list them though.

ponomo, you mentioned the Ameetec carriers are made by young (which sounds great), and Praetorian55, you mentioned having a couple. Got any pics you could share? I’m wondering if these Ammetec units have flutes, a cutout for the ejection port cover, are M16 or AR-15, and have a covered firing pin (a la M16).

I’d really appreciate any help or insight you guys might have, thanks.

Does anybody else have one of these chrome carriers/bolts. I’d really like to hear your thoughts about them.

Does Smith make one for the M16?

Does any of the other makers?

========

That is correct.  They made over 300,000 chrome bolt carriers and bolts in the 1980's and 1990's for Uncle and his friends.
