My Pre-production PRS arrived today.  My first thought after talking it out of the box, was its much smaller than it looks in pictures, I guess the camera does add 10 lbs?
As already said before its solid, no hollow body like the standard A1/A2 stocks.  If you really want to buttstroke someone, I’m sure it would hold up, but I’d bet you would snap the receiver extension off.

My second thought was the sticker on the box indicating postage for 2lbs, its heavy.

Weight and size comparisons left to right pictured below  - A2, PRS, Vltor A1 Clubfoot(with standard cheek adapters installed), A1. (The A1 has a steel trap door adding a few ounces.  If that’s a concern the plastic A2 buttpad will fit the A1 stock)


I removed the aluminum buttplate to see how much it weighed.


I put it back together and installed it on my AR10


The CH can be pulled back with the cheek piece raised. This pic shows how far it is back on the stock.


When I went into prone position the first thing I noticed, was the clubfoot did not allow me to hold the stock into my shoulder, I couldn’t touch my arm or shoulder.  If I held under the stock, my hand was too low to reach.

If you usually shoot with a bag under the stock, this clubfoot is ideal.  If there is a cover over the rail now, it would be really cool if when removed also took half the length with it.  How much room is needed for a rear mono pod?

Damian and I have our rifles configured with optics so there is no need for a cheek piece.  With the cheek piece all the way down, you don’t even know its there.  With the cheek piece raised, its to far back for any practical use buy us.  We did try it, and it dug into the back of jaws.  Damian said it was like he was chewing on it with his back teeth, which is a very good analogy.

The adjusting wheels are tight and positive, but on the production version I hope they are made with more course threads on the screws.   The amount of movement gained from one click to another is very fine.  16 clicks = 1/4" on this model. I would like to see 1 click equaling 4 of the current clicks.

The extendable length of pull is also solid.  I say extendable, because I don’t think its fair to call it adjustable, as you can only extend it from what any other AR stock offers.  You cannot make it any shorter.  

If you do the majority of your shooting from a bench with sandbags, this stock is ideal.  

I mostly shoot prone, so there a few things I like to see changed.

I’d like to take an inch out of the length of the stock. Perhaps I can use a RRA entry stock buffer and custom made spacer?  This would give me a truly adjustable LOP.  Next would be to remove at least half of the club foot section, make something my hand fits around.  I be replacing the aluminum buttpad with a plastic piece of the standard shape. The hour glass isnt for me, and the concave pad is also not for me. I’ll be talking to my shop guy tomorrow, I don’t think these changes are impossible.

Glad you posted these pics as this shows the version for the AR10 (for the first time) which has the cheekpiece cut back about half an inch back from the AR15 version (due to the shorter charging handle). We did have testers use the AR10 version and the cheek riser successfully when using night vision or with the scope mounted more rearward.

Also thanks for putting the buttplate on the scale which I haven't been able to do yet. We probably will be replacing that version with an ALU mount and a rubber type pad that will maintain the same shape and LOP.

The adjustment wheel is changing for more movement per click we just haven't decided how much yet.

A very good day at the range. Every Wednesday is a 600yd practice. The only sad part was Mongo didn’t show up.
1st relay I shot my service rifle, and second my AR10 with the PRS stock.   I didn’t use a mat with my AR10, just found a spot with the least amount of ground hog damage.  I spent my usual amount of time building my position, making sure everything was settling just right.  The stock is very comfortable in position, and fit me well.   The lower portion (clubfoot) worked well, I placed my hand underneath and let it rest in the web between the thumb and forefinger.  I dont use sand bags. I shoot very low so it fit comfortably.  
The only thing I would like to see changed that I haven’t already mentioned after shooting it is a way to actually attach the cover over the rail on the bottom.  It would slide off about ½” every time I pulled the trigger.

Consistency is the key to accuracy, they way you shoulder the stock, the amount of pressure you put on your cheek, position of the support hand all add up.  The stock is very comfortable, and I felt great with every shot that I was being consistent with every shot.  There are too many variables to credit the group I shot today to the stock, but I believe it helped me in my consistency.

There was a miscommunication with a new person in the pits, and they didn’t replace another shooters 200yd target with the proper 600yd target.  I was using a scope, and didn’t want to hold up the entire line while they pasted up a new target so I shoot what was there.  

My first shot was low and to the left, so I adjusted and finished with the ammo I brought.  The standard pasters(not the shoot n sees) are my shots.  I wasn’t plotting, so I don’t know what order the holes were made, but the white spotter used to mark the shots was hit and repaired 10 times.



The only issue I have, is I have no use for the main features of the stock.  I have no use for an extended LOP, and my rifle is setup that I don’t need the Cheek Riser.  The stock, as a stock, I like but I’ll be taking the saw to it this weekend.  I think I can shorten it at least an inch, and install it onto a modified 6 position receiver extension.   I don’t care if I will never be able to use the cheek piece, but I’d love a shorter stock with the ability to adjust the stock OUT to A2 length.

1.) I wonder... is it possible to make a charging handle shorter or just altogether different in order to have the cheek elevation brought forward to a more comfrtable position on the stock?

No, then you wouldnt be able to pull the carrier back far enough.

2.) Could you post a link to a larger/high-res version of your "ideal" finished product? I'd like to see the comparison between the photos a little better. Photoshop?

Its done!  instead of only having an extendable length of pull, mine now has a fully adjustable length of pull.  Fully closed its shorter than an A1 stock, fully extended its just shorter than an A2(if I want it as long as an A2 - I'll use an A2).  Now I need to load up more ammo so I can go out and shoot.

Ok I'll admit it, that is pretty cool.

We are building the M93 replacement to fit Big Boar's other requirements. It will have a fixed cheek piece and a greater LOP range.
