Because it's BCM ..All joking aside, it makes it easier to manipulate the CH with the extended latch that's rock solid..

I'm right handed, but of the two models I prefer the Mod 3.  It 's longer, but if you don't have a problem with snagging gear, like on a Reece they are great.  If the Mod 4 is a big improvement over the tac latch, the Mod 3 is that much more over a Mod 4.  Of course, you would have to weigh the extra length vs. snagging gear on a tactical tactical rifle.

Whats the difference between Mod3 and Mod4?  Latch size?

Yes.  Mod 3 is large, Mod 4 is a bit smaller.

I always recommend the Mod 3 for lefties and those running optics that approach the charging handle area.... who will spend most of their time proned out.

Mod 4 is great for rifles that you may use in a more dynamic situation.  Less to snag, and less to poke your sternum when you drop it for a transition...and it still sticks out far enough to give you plenty to grab.

I finally got my other two in yesterday....so all of my AR's have em.  Absolutely love them, great stuff.

One minor fly in the ointment is the tendency of these to render a nasty pinch to an ungloved finger.  Be aware.

Otherwise, these things are one of those "Why didn't I think of that..." clever inventions.

I have one of of their Mod 3 and Mod 4s as well as the new one from LMT and several PRI big latches.  The PRI is still my preferred charging handle.  I have never broken a USGI charging handle though I am sure it is possible and in theory the BCM handle would be less prone to breakage.  Aside from that the BCM does nothing that the PRI does not.  As stated before the pinch issue is very annoying and needs to be addressed.  Until then I will gladly trade my BCM charging handle for PRIs...... (which I did recently)

Thanks for sharing the cool write up Stickman!

I've been messing with my Gunfighter's and haven't experienced this so called "pinch to ungloved hands" yet...

Maybe it's my superior technique! I am after all, Cajun...

Yup yup. I got mine because I'm a lefty and the original CH sucks donkey ballz for lefties.  I think it's a VERY nice piece of kit for cheap. If you are building a gun, I HIGHLY recommend one of these BCMCH

If left-handed, what's a good way to manipulate the charging handle, when the rifle is canted clockwise to the right with  your right hand?
Palm or thumb with index finger?

What applications would each one be used for? What are the advantages of each one? I can't decide on which one to get for this rifle.

Here's MY simple assessment. Mod 3 has a longer latch for set ups like yours with magnified optics where the rear part of the scope may interfere with operating a standard CH. Mod 4's latch is shorter and I run those with my RDS optics but either one would be an improvement no matter which one you decided to get.

How does it pinch your finger? I grab mine with my left thumb and index finger... how are you grabbing it to get pinched?

Some folks are saying that it happens in between the back of the latch and the front of the actual handle, the curve in the back of the latch that matches up with the front of the charging handle. I have a Mod3 and have not experienced this. I have heard a lot of folks say that they were designed to be used with gloves so it was not a problem in T&E.

Could someone please post a picture of how they're gripping that allows their hand to get pinched?

I've got 3 of these and it hasn't happened once.

Considering how I run my guns, If there was going to be a problem Im sure I'd have seen it by now.

Anyone got a picture?  I'm not even sure where it could pinch ya.

I think they're saying it will pinch you because they are using the flat side of their left hand to rack it, while you're using your thumb and index finger. They are getting the fleshy part of their left hand, opposite the thumb, pinched like a mother.

Check out the picture on the first page. He's gloved but that's the part that will get pinched if you're not careful as fuck.

Mod 4 checking in here...

I got bit once, but I was messing around at home, not racking with any force or anything.

I think it's awesome. Gives a bigger foot print to get a piece of to rack that bolt. Needed? No, but a great add on that is under $50.

I took your advice and went with the mod 3 latch and it's perfect. This CH is one of the best upgrades that can be made to a rifle. It's so solid, I was amazed. I'll be getting a gunfighter CH for all of my rifles even my AR10 when BCM releases them.
