Hi,
I am looking at purchasing my first AR-15, and I have looked at an Armalite A4 mid-length carbine at the local gun shop.  I am just curious, will a mid-length carbine with a bayonet mount properly mount a bayonet like a standard 20" AR?

Thanks,

Mike

You're going to need an modified bayonet.

A standard M-7 or M-9 will mount on a 20 inch, it will also mount on a 14.5 inch military length M-4 barrel.

However, it will not mount on 16 inch civilian M-4 barrel as the flashider is too far from the lug by 2 inches.

Guys he's looking at a 16" midlength from what I gather, one of the benefits of which is that it will mount a bayonet.

M9 fits my 16" Midlength just fine!

I myself would like to see pics of a 16" mid-length with bayonet mounted.  The tech guy at Rock River Arms told me today that the bayo lug is too far forward on a mid-lenth 16" barrel causing the ring on top of the M9 bayo to actually be located approximately 1/3 of an inch in front of the flash hider.

I hope that's not the case.........

Just took this pic ...

M9 on a Denny's Operator barrel, F type FSB. ( midlength )

The ring is a little forward of where it's suppose to be but it's totally usable this way.

Here's my M16A2 20" on top with a standard M7 (IMI-Solingen Galil) bayonet properly mounted and my midlength 16" carbine at the bottom, you will notice that the bayonet ring on the midlength is about a half inch more forward on the FS compared to the 20" barrel.

The bayonet mount on the midlength carbines is not perfect but it works.

The AR-15 makes a lousy spear.

The only advantage that I can see of being able to mount a bayonet, is that it upsets the hoplophobes.

Quoted:
You're going to need an modified bayonet.

14.5" carbine length will fit bayo, 16" middy will, and 20" rifle.

If you're getting a 16" midlength, a standard bayonet will fit fine.
