Hi everyone!
Are 7.62x39mm uppers hard to find? I can't seem to find many options out there. I got a new STAG lower and want to put a 20" 7.62 upper on it. Any suggestions on where to look? Didn't really see many on my latest Shotgun News issue. And another thing, for a 20" barrel, what do you guys suggest as far as twist.... 1:9 or 1:10? I'll be using the rifle for target shooting and hunting coyotes...
Thanks in advance!

The only 20" 7.62x39 kit I've seen in recent years has been put out by DPMS, and I'm not sure they're still making it. 16" carbine types have generally been more popular in this caliber over the years, so they may have gone over to that style.

Check their web site, or give them a call.

Off the top of my head current 7.62x39 mm upper providers include DPMS, Del-Ton, Olympic and Model 1 Sales.

Watch the EE.  Uppers are easy to find.  Mags are much tougher to find....

Go for the Model 1 Sales. They have a 20" model in A2 or A3 style with or without flashhider. I got mine from them and it works great.

Not yet, but there is a thread going right now in this forum (I think) about people putting together 5.45x39mm barrels and working on making it work in an AR15.  So you have a chance to "get in on the ground floor" of a new caliber for the AR platform.

I suppose once they get the bugs worked out we'll see all the 5.45mm surplus ammo disappear quite rapidly as these guys will be buying it up as fast as they can.

The ammo fort needs a new wall and all that.
