you should mark the pics for the people who dont know or not sure.

Great and self-explanatory pictures, but the title might be a little misleading… |
I have a rifle that looks like the one under "bad" cept it's much dirtier
Never had an issue with a round catching the feed ramp in the upper and below the barrel extension. Doesn't mean I won't though I'm sure. Should I go RRA on it and break the dremel out? |
mine was the same way, i broke the dremel out and now its beautiful and runs flawless. |
i used little 1/4 pink stones for the dremel, i got them from walmart. then ive got some polishing bits i use with some jewelers rugue. to make it smooth and shinny. |
Look for chain saw sharpening bits anywhere they are sold. This should be required reading that MUST be done before you can post anything. |

whats so misleading? everyone knows that when the nubs ask m4 feed ramp questions it will be answered on Thursday. |
TOP LEFT: Standard feed ramps (barrel only) TOP RIGHT: M4 feed ramps (barrel and upper receiver) BOTTOM LEFT: BAD (M4 feed ramps on upper receiver but not on barrel) BOTTOM RIGHT: OK (Barrel with M4 feed ramps upper receiver without) ETA: Oh shit!! Its Saturday!! My bad |
For the "OK" (M4 barrel w/non-cut receiver), is it "OK" because it just looks a little "off", or does it actually create some functioning problems? I really would like an a1 upper with a M4 barrel, but I'm wary of that being an issue
you can make it Good in about 5 minutes. notching the receiver is super easy. most of the time you get a better fit that way than if you bought an m4 upper and barrel sometimes they dont line up properly.. |
correct. the standard bbl with m4 upper will leave a little gap that "may" catch the bullet tip... |
Answered my confusion. but then again, I didn't know there was a difference before this thread... hock.gif |

I Know it's not Thursday, but I do have a question regarding the top right pic. It is acceptable to have a slight lip on the rifle extension ramp over the receicver cuts? That would'nt cause jams?
why dontcha shoot it, and let us know. |
It's not desireable, but it's usually acceptable. The test REALLY IS to go shoot it and see if there is a problem or not. The barrel extensions in the picture do not have index pins installed, so if you see a slight offest in the ramps, it's just because I did not set the extension perfectly into place. These pictures were taken for YOUR educational purposes. Please don't nit-pik if I did not get them absolutely perfect. |
Done. |
If it is, I'll just delete the picture. I would not know what to do without the never ending stream of "What are M4 feedramps?" threads. |
since we screwed up the Thursday bumps and on a education roll. Why M4 feed ramps? I just checked mine and it doesn't have the M4 feed ramps even though its an m4gery.
I wasn't nit picking at all. I was just wondering if it was acceptable as on my LMT upper there is a slight lip. |
If it works with all your mags, then it's acceptable. If it truly bothers you, dremel the offending part until it no longer offends. |
BAN HIM X2!!!!! This ain't San Francisco boy!!! |
i wasnt joking.....more likely than not, it will be no problem....but only you can tell us that........ go shoot it......if it aint broke, then dont worry about fixin it. |

The initial post is entirely blank.
No pictures, no words, nothing Why don't I see what is being commented on? |
Anyone know how to bump the original M4 thread from the archives?
archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=191733 |
All I posted was a picture. Perhaps my website hosting company was down when you tried to view the picture. Try again. Here is the direct link: ar15barrels.com/tech/feedramps2.jpg |
You can't bump from the archives, but you could copy the text into a new thread and then add the same pictures. |
Then it would be a dupe (or would this). You could always copy/paste Bigbore's post (giving credit of course) into your first post of this thread. Then everything would be in one nice, tidy place. |
That original thread has 13 pages of good info from several good sources, quite a bit of cut and pasting. |
Should not the proper M4 feed ramps say "Better" instead of "Good" |
Better how? you are talking 2 different kinds of barrel extensions. They both work if they are properly matched. |
