I'm thinking about buying one but I'm sure of the quality.

Would you compare it to a RRA lower?

Still working on a purchase from him on one of his custom engraved lowers.

FWIW, I have yet to read any negative feedback about his work or his customer service..

Several (well respected)  memnbers here have purchased his lowers...

I purhased one of his custom prototypes about a month ago.  Great to deal with, and the quality is excellent.  You won't be disappointed.

I can't comment on the custom lowers, but the lowers he sells with just an engraving on it (i.e., no custom rollmark, selector markings, etc.) are on DPMS lowers.

Just thought I'd share just in case you were referring to one of those lowers.

And just because I like posting pictures of my engraved lower:

This is one of the DPMS lowers.

Engraved DPMS lower from Tom Sawyer. Great guy to talk to over the phone, workmanship was top notch, build when flawlessly. I would go to Tom again for future engraving work without hesitation.

Can I smack you around for rubbing that lower in our face?  JR00!
But seriously, a very nice lower.

I've got exactly that one on order. I'm in week 5 though and getting antsy. I realize that due to demand there is a 6-10 week window for custom stuff, but was under teh impression that a prototype just needed the SN engraved and out the door.

Steve gave me an update a week and a half ago so I'm just keeping my shorts on for now. I just feel like a kid that's been told Christmas will be postponed a week or two though...

Sh*t... I think I just figured it out from Stickmans photos. If Steve had already engraved the "JR00" on the prototype lowers, leaving just enough room for one or two additional numbers, he would have had to completely engrave a new one for me as I requested a SN that didn't include any zeros.

*smacks forehead*

Ah well... From everything I have seen of their work so far, it'll be more than worth the additional wait.

If you look hard enough you may see a small imperfection in the lower.  This lower is one that was given to me in a contest (thankyou all), and I was very clear to the Tom Sawyer crew that I wasn't worried about it.  I was mainly looking at the engraving quality, which is top notch.  Everything else is flawless.

I only bring this up to avoid any questions, negative comments, or scandalous rumors....

*Sigh*

Mine probably isn't gonna be as "space gun" looking as yours. I've got a 20" 1x9 standard Bushy barrel mounted in a LAR A2 (cosmeticly blemished) upper with standard A2 sights and handgaurds. Ordered up a LPK from Del-Ton waitign for it. A 6-pos stock, EoTech 512 on a co-witness carry handle mount, tac-sling, and a vert foregrip are all in the future plans.

Probably gonna dura-coat it too...

Understandable why my unddies are on fire though. While I purchased my bull barreled, cryo-accurized DMPS Southpaw outright, I'm building this one 100% from scratch.

Gonna go with one of these for a Stock. Good price and it'll provide storage space from some CR123's for my flashlight.

Looking forward to completing my ARrrggh-15. ;-)

Just to rub it in a little more.... I have the same lower as Stick's Pirate Special on order.  Was out for anodizing 2 weeks ago and I expect it this week or next.  BTW, if you want lucky 13 for your custom serial number, you cant.  I got it.  To rub it in a little more, my wife bought me this lower for a retirment (24 years Navy) gift.
Thanks to Stickman for all his help and putting me in touch with Steve.  And of course I will post pictures when it arrives.

Steve has expanded a bit on this... Last time I talked to him he would do engraving like that on DPMS, Stag, and Bushmaster. There may have been others as well. Those are the ones that I remember for sure so I'll leave it at that. I've currently got a Stag in the works through him. He's engraving my brother's badge (he's a deputy) into the right side of the magwell. It's for a custom build that I'm doing as a gift for his squad car.

Ok.... slight miscommunication. My lower is going out with the NEXT batch going out for anodizing. Just got a call from Steve, very nice guy to talk to BTW, gave me an appoximate timeline for getting mine to me. First or second week of July. Right about smack dab between the 6-10 weeks needed for custom work.

Just a couple more weeks.... Groovy...

I'll post pics back to this thread after I get it.

Cool. There is a second varient of the old Skull and Crossed bones on the webstore that Steve is offering. Skull has an eye patch and bandana and crossed femurs.

I've read up a bit on Jack Rackham which is why I wanted the Calico Jack (plain skull over crossed swords) on mine. Black Beard, Bloody Sam Roberts, ect... all had varients of the Black Flag they'd fly.

I will say though, my only concern is the hole into which the trigger guard roll pin is placed looks to be a little off center on the Jolly Roger lowers.  Hopefully, this has been corrected.

I recently purchased the JR029 lower.  I will be installing a Colt Match Target complete upper on this lower.  I am having gunsmith thread the barrel and installing a Phantom 5C2 Flash hider.  On th initial installation of the upper I found the rear takedown pin a little difficult to insert but with a tap of a small hammer (being carefull not to damage the finish) it went in.  Very tight upper to lower fit.  As soon as the upper returns I will take it to the range to see how it all works.
