Here are some pictures of my little carbine.  After much reading here and thought I went with a 14.5 inch M-4 style barrel lengthened to the appropriate minimum length.  The color was something I asked about here and ended up going with the majority view that Colt gray would be best.  I really like this rifle and can't wait to test it out. Here are the pictures.

Israeli cops and IDF are not the same thing.

That's right up there with "Milwaukee PD, USMC, same thing."

Purely semantics but with military service being a requirement there, I think its safe to say all of those cops are former IDF.

Plus, they use the same basic fighting techniques, and a lot of the same weaponry, for the most part.

I've got a like-new 723 style upper inbound from the EE, and I'm fairly sure it'll have an A1 aperture on it, but those suck a big one.

And so I think I'm going to replace it with an A2 one, because big hole/little hole makes more sense than little hole/slightly higher little hole.

It's sort of a moot point since it'll end up wearing an Aimpoint or clone anyway, but I don't see the point of hamstringing my iron-sights just to be type correct, if there is such a thing for a 723 or GUU-5/P.

Just get Meprolight tritium sights. Then you are still IDF-kosher!

Here's my take on the IDF Carbine.  This was the first AR that I built from bare receivers.  I started gathering parts mid '08 and finally got it together mid 2010.  Nodak Spud A1 upper, DSA ZM4 lower, barrel is a 16" ER Shaw, chrome-lined thin profile from Model 1.  Everything else was scrounged at gun shows and different gun forum classifieds - like here!  The sling and handguard bands are from Zahal in Israel.

There are some really nice KISS carbines here. I really dig the IDF guns.

Here's pics of the "IDF Clone" I just put together.  I took pics along the way.  I started with an old, generic lower I built from 80% and did a krappy krylon paint job on just to dull "the shine".  I got the upper from an old, Colt parts kit and the 16" pencil barrel from Daniel Defense.  I sent the bbl, sight base and hider to ADCO to be cut and pinned to 16" overall. Super fast turn around on ADCO service btw. The aluminum stock came from EE.

Parts

Disassembling lower.

Lower ready for stripping.  I decided to leave the upper original to see how close Norell's Moly Resin Grayish Flat Black would match.

Lower after I put it in the blasting cabinet.  Aluminum oxide at about 90 psi.  I did the same to the buffer tube as it had a funky, green anodizing on it.

Warming-up parts for Norell's.  Norell's recommends 100 degree pre-heat for applying the moly resin with an airbrush.

Parts after new finish was applied.  The Norell's was surprisingly easy and forgiving as I do not possess mad airbrush skillz.

Painted lower next to original upper finish.  Pretty damn close although I don't need a perfect match.  That's for shoes and purses.

Barrel assembly back from ADCO.

Closeup of the underside of the hider showing where it had been pinned and welded.  This photo was taken after I used the Dremel to flatten and smooth the weld a little.  It came back from ADCO nice and clean.  I just thought the weld was sticking out a bit high.

Lower reassembled

I re-parkerized the hider to clean it up a bit.  You can still clearly see the pinned area as it parked lighter than the hider.

Reassembled

Closeup of receiver.

Greenleaf, that came out really nice!  All ya need now is to get this  from Zahal!  You might want to ditch the 1-point bungee sling and substitute The IDF Emblem Sling  or the Sayaret - Special Forces sling

My KISS rifle. I wish it were a lightweight carbine upper rather than M4, but oh well. Even with the rail on there it's a very light and handy rifle.

Do it!  I have a new Colt 14.5 barrel that I was going to build into another KISS, but I might chop it to 11.5.  I love my 12.5

Actually - the Sig Brace - used "as designed" might actually be useful with this sucker - the barrel:

It's almost as heavy as the one H&K decided to put on the MR556.

Does look hefty but I can see why for an open bolt design. How many of the parts did you have to alter or get manufactured vs using original parts? I knew an old importer who had some original upper receivers and other parts for them and was always tempted to pick some up.
