And so I think I'm going to replace it with an A2 one, because big hole/little hole makes more sense than little hole/slightly higher little hole. It's sort of a moot point since it'll end up wearing an Aimpoint or clone anyway, but I don't see the point of hamstringing my iron-sights just to be type correct, if there is such a thing for a 723 or GUU-5/P. I got the upper from an old, Colt parts kit and the 16" pencil barrel from Daniel Defense. I sent the bbl, sight base and hider to ADCO to be cut and pinned to 16" overall. Super fast turn around on ADCO service btw. The aluminum stock came from EE. I decided to leave the upper original to see how close Norell's Moly Resin Grayish Flat Black would match. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4912_zpsa6535ac7.jpg Lower after I put it in the blasting cabinet. Aluminum oxide at about 90 psi. I did the same to the buffer tube as it had a funky, green anodizing on it. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4918_zps3792d4e8.jpg Warming-up parts for Norell's. Norell's recommends 100 degree pre-heat for applying the moly resin with an airbrush. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4919_zps06bde7fc.jpg Parts after new finish was applied. The Norell's was surprisingly easy and forgiving as I do not possess mad airbrush skillz. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4922_zps3cfef935.jpg Painted lower next to original upper finish. Pretty damn close although I don't need a perfect match. That's for shoes and purses. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4928_zpsd7ed3b4f.jpg Barrel assembly back from ADCO. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4948_zpsccd1a842.jpg Closeup of the underside of the hider showing where it had been pinned and welded. This photo was taken after I used the Dremel to flatten and smooth the weld a little. It came back from ADCO nice and clean. I just thought the weld was sticking out a bit high. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4950_zps7cdb04d9.jpg Lower reassembled http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4953_zps3b49e285.jpg I re-parkerized the hider to clean it up a bit. You can still clearly see the pinned area as it parked lighter than the hider. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4981_zpsc5635f5a.jpg Reassembled http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4988_zps538a3070.jpg Closeup of receiver. http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii519/Greenleaf027/IDF%20Clone%202014/IMG_4990_zpsec88d489.jpg View Quote That turned out great, and idk if you're married or not, but I can't help but get this picture of your wife opening up the oven and seeing gun parts baking like a thanksgiving turkey with a look on her face, out of my head for some reason lmao |

How many of the parts did you have to alter or get manufactured vs using original parts? I knew an old importer who had some original upper receivers and other parts for them and was always tempted to pick some up. |
