It's not as far as you think. I've ran lights on the 3 o'clock rail for 10+ years ... at least the last 6 or 7 without a tape switch.

These pics may show you that it's not as far of a reach as it may appear in the last pic:

Edited to add: Keep in mind that when I'm not using the light, I have a tendency to rest my thumb pointing some what forward. When using the light, the thumb comes off the handguard and depresses the clicker tail cap.

Explains it alot. I'm such a creature of habit that it just seems odd, that's all. Makes sense though. I'm always trying to "hone" my shooting stances and "habitualize" my grip on the gun. I just ordered a couple Larue hand stops to secure what I'm inherently inclined to do. Thanks for the explanation - that's always been something I've wanted to ask...lol....

I run my light the same. my thumb goes over top of the rail, and it's only a slight movement to activate the light.

Looks good, hmaverick. I'm assuming that's my old middy that we traded? You sure put it to better use than I would have.

Here's what I did with your old BCM upper. I basically made a USGI clone, but with better BUIS, ACOG mount, and grip (depending on your perspective, I suppose). I have a place reserved on the RAS for a Surefire M962XM07 that's on the way to finish it off.
