What is the staus on this rifle. I would love to have one. I have not seen any for sale or any reviews online.
Releasing shortly. We've had a few annoying delays on a couple of LAR-47-specific parts, which are in turn delaying the entire project.
Several reviews already published, with a few more due shortly. Best review so far was Eric Poole's article in the G&A Book of the AR-15issue that (according to th ecover) shoul dstil be available at your "newstand" until August 20 (Blue cover with the LAR-47 "Delta" on it). Steve/RRA |
Unfortunately, no.
Both receivers are proprietary, primarily to accomodate to magazine length, width, and latching method. Steve/RRA |
are the railed forearms, buttstocks and pistol grips proprietary as well?

About two days after th elast of the AWOL parts come across th edock and pass inspection.
I just don't know when that will be. Sorry. Steve/RRA |

I'm really interested in your LAR-47 !
But I need to buy a New York state- legal version due the silly regulations here. Do you offer this? Thanks. |
How about a pistol version, or at least a receiver set? What other parts are proprietary? Barrel? Bolt? Carrier?

A pistol version might come later.
We have to get th ecarbines goign first...anything else will come after that. Steve/RRA |
I'd like to plus one the idea of offering a lower and upper receiver set. I'd like to build my own as a pistol and then form one it.
If carbines and pistols move, I would expect we'll offer an SBR, just like we do with everything else we make (except LAR-8s).
Steve/RRA |
I can't effing wait. My dealer has a few on order from SHOT.
Who do I bribe to get one of the first? |
I would get any orders in sooner than later, and then patiently wait. We already have a significant back log of orders, but nothing that is unmanageble at this point. Once the LAR-47 starts shipping, I imagine that orders will bust wide open and we'll be back-ordered far longer than we already are.

We never said it was ready to go at SHOT...we said it was going to be several months (and it has been). As one of the people who has had the opportunity to shoot several of the prototypes, I know that your wait will be worth it.
Steve/RRA |
+1 for receiver / bolt sets... No worries, RRA, we will keep waiting. Better to wait and have it work perfectly!
With that said, I think that the beauty of this system will be in the pistol / sbr genre. 7.62x39 is a poor man's /opportunist's 300 blk. Very little loss with a shorter barrel, + a thirty cal round that is effective in common battle / hunting ranges. A 7" BBL + suppressor with subsonics would be sick! To be honest, the rifle only excites me because it means a pistol might be possible! Maybe I can convince RRA to sell me a rifle that has never been assembled into a rifle........ |
Pistols aren't out of the question...they just aren't going to be the first LAR-47s offered.
A lot will hinge on demand for the platform in general and once going, for requests for pistols. Since 7.62x39 has already been around in pistol form (which screwed up the supply of really inexpensive ammo years ago), there's no strategic reason not to do one eventually. Steve/RRA |
Steve,
Thank you for your timely and thoughtful replies. My only real concerns are about the wear and tear on the internals by steel-cased 7.62x39mm ammo. As you can probably predict like most of the rest of us that a huge percentage of the ammo going through these carbines is going to be the more economical steel-cased imports. The other concern is how this relatively dirty-shooting ammo will affect the reliability of this direct gas impingement carbine. Was a piston action considered (or will be)? Nevertheless, looking forward to buying mine Again, thank you. |
And we've made chromed carrier groups and chrome-lined barrels (chamber and bore) standard as well.
So far we haven't experienced excessive carboning or grunge build-up with any of the 7.62x39 ammo we've been testing with, but we have also cleaned the rifles immediately after every use. As with any extremely questionable ammo, I would just assume that it is corrosive (regardless of what it said on the pre-printed box that was shipped to whatever ammo plant was making the ammo or whatever warehouse was being used to repackage existing ammo) and clean appropriately. We considered a piston system, but stayed with DGI as the better of the two methods in an AR platform. Steve/RRA |
This is going to be a great carbine!! Looking forward to seeing them, might have to get one.

I would not worry myself with steel case ammo . the case is no where near as hard as the steel in the barrel . the issue is the steel case doesnt expand as much as a brass case and it lets crude blow back in the chamber . If you blow through a couple hundred rounds of steel case and then switch to brass you may or may not experience a stuck case . its no big deal , just clean your rifle when your done for the day and all will be well. I think steve hit on a good point , just assume the ammo is corrosie and clean accordingly and all will be well . just an fyi I have had good luck with cabelas herter brand in 5.56 and 7.62 x51 so I would expect the 7.62 x 39 to be just as good . I wait for the door buster sales then load up. |

But then I found the PTR32 PDW. Couldn't pass it up. I'll probably go with the Sig556R for a long gun variant. Sucks too. I was really pumped, but you know there will be 1 st run issues (happens in every system, firearm or not) and you're an entire gen behind Sig as they ave already addressed their design issues. One question I've wanted to ask for a while... Is this an in house design or did you guys get a license/buy the KAC design? Thanks. |
In house. KAC used proprietary (longer) receivers to allow for a spring assisted mag drop.
Steve/RRA |
Any word on when you guys think these will start production? I have quite a few on order for my shop and all I get are frustrated sales folks when I call for updates. I am not complaining about the staff, I am sure they are taking a huge amount of calls right now, but some of my customers are getting a little worried that you guys still don't even show the guns being built. Thanks for any info you might have for me.
We're trying to get some out in December, but whether or not we can largely depends on everything else that we're doing.
Steve/RRA |
I can'r remember the last "new product" I've been this excited about.
Have wanted to get back into the AK world, but lacked the necessary push. This has done it for me. Thanks RRA! Gonna spend MORE $ and have more to explain to the spousal-unit. Kidding... |
I'm in the same boat myself, but slightly differently. I hit AR -overload, and hadn't really been all that interested until I got involved in the early stages of the LAR-47 project. I'm really not an AK kinda guy (always thought that the stamped receivers were kinda "eh" and the regular grips were too small and stocks too short...and by the time you almost had what you wanted, you could have another AR. Voila...now I can cover both "needs"...and all my "extra" accessories will find their way onto an LAR-47 while I find the right build-out for me (I'm thinking 4-pos aluminum CAR stock, Hogue grip, and a NM free-float sleeve -long story, don't ask-inside gutted R4 handguards...and since the barrel will be floated, throw an ACOG on top and see what it can do).
That said, by the time I have mine, I might reconsider and change everything. Steve/RRA |

I AM LOOKING TO GET A 7.62X39 RIFLE A.S.A.H.P., LIKE BEFORE OUR "DISASTER IN CHIEF" DOES SOMETHING WE WILL ALL REGRET. IT HAS FINALIZED DOWN TO A CHOICE BETWEEN THE RR LAR-47 AND THE SIG SAUER 556R. I ALREADY OWN 3 - 4 ROCK RIVERS IN VARIOUS CALIBERS. I LOVE THE AR15 STYLE PLATFORM. IT IS EASY FOR MY 67 YEAR OLD SHOULDERS TO FIRE, EVEN IN MY 458 SOCOM!
I WOULD LIKE TO CUT TO THE CHASE. I HAVE 1500$ IN HAND. IT BOILS DOWN TO HOW SOON THE RR WILL BE RELEASED. I AM ALL SET UP FOR RELOADING, SO I ONLY NEED THE RIFLE. IS IT GETTING CLOSE? I DO NOT WANT TO GO FOR THE SIG AND THEN KICK MYSELF FOR IT. I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH RR'S CUSTOMER SERVICE & GOT "NOT IN PRODUCTION, DON'T KNOW WHEN". AS I SAID, I WANT THE RR & DON'T WANT TO GET THE SIG ONLY TO REGRET IT. HELP...?? THANKS, E.K.McWILLIAMS |

I don't know. Honestly.
I would love to be cranking them out right now, but machine time is at a premium andf we can't get them intothe production queue right now. When we do get them scheduled in, we'll run a huge number before we retool back to "normal" production components. Steve/RRA |
I was just thinking about these and the 1911s this morning. Theyre both on my short list.
Hello Steve,
Almost 30 days since the last post, any update? I'm dying to get one of these asap. 2 of my favorite rifles in one = awesome! Thanks. |
Idk if they weren't on the website before but they are now on the front page at the bottom. Looks like they have done there 2013 update today.
Only took LAR-15s and LAR-8s, which represent the vast majority of what we sell. Didn't have any LAR-9, LAR-40, LAR-6.8, :or LAR-458 variants there either. We were running an abbreviated display and a short staff...so something had to give.

Hey guys, just wanted to give everyone an update on this rifle. I just flipped the pages on my GunDigest daily callendar and found out that the page for February 11th features the LAR-47 it reads:
The LAR-47 from Rock River Arms, in 7.62x39mm Russian, has a two-stage AR trigger group, 16-inch barrel, A2 flash suppressor, ambi- mag release and RRA's six-position tactical CAR stock--but it takes AK magazines! It also shows a picture of the LAR-47 Delta Carbine. I can only assume that this is RRA way of letting me know that the gun is right around the corner! Good news for all. This is of course intended to be all in good fun and not intended as an outlet for any repressed anger towards RRA because I really want my gun. |

Any idea of an ETA yet? Ive been waiting for these to come out for to long. You have enough reviews and ads in magazines now we need the real thing!

The industry is slammed just trying to produce AR's to keep up with demand. Not to mention the likelihood that manufacturers are hesitant to ramp up production to the maximum with the potential for a ban on their products on the horizon. I'm not Rock River, but I can only assume the LAR-47 is on the back burner for the foreseeable future while the company focuses on producing it's current line of product. Besides that, magazine ads and pictures of the prototypes have been in the gun rags for nearly 6 months now. |

I only wish NY didn't go full retard when it did. At this point the LAR-47 is out of reach for me, being a NY resident. Still, I hope the rifle is a success and still available for the day I can escape from NY and buy one! |
Since I first heard about the LAR-47, I've been interested. The one draw back I am having right now is I am not a fan of the A2 front sight. Are there plans to have a folding front sight?
Just about anything non-caliber specific or proprietary to the LAR-47 could be substituted from the satndard configurations. It may not be right away, but it would work.
