Got my Gen 2 in today... almost wish I hadn't. Now I have to save up and buy 3 more... I don't know if Primary Arms saves me money, or costs me money.

I got mine in Dec, and I didn't take it to the range till last month. Turns out I got the one that had a adjustment problem. E-mailed the nice folks at Primary Arms, was told to send it back. Got my new replacement 3 working days later. Took it out to the range this Saturday, set the sights and shot 250 rounds and its staying zero. A buddy who went with me bought the new multi- reticle w/ 5x magnifier, set its sights also and shot about 150 rounds, he says he's very happy. Great products from a great company/store with great customer service. Will buy again and refer friends. :)

Does the Gen 2 have a hand screw on the side ore does the mount have to go on and off with an allen wrench only?
|
|
I picked up a Gen 2 and it was with an allen wrench. I did pick up a YHM Eotech replacement thumb screw, and cut it to fit flush with the Micro. Works nice.

OK, I'm sure this has been driven into the ground already, but I have to ask anyway.
Does the micro dot (specifically, the gen 3) on the optional "Riser with Emergency Release Lever" successfully achieve a lower 1/3 cowitness on a flattop AR-15? I know it's claimed to on the Primary Arms website, but I've also seen there seems to be a little trouble with it. Example: Youtube - Primary Arms Micro Dot Watch at 4:55. It appears the little bump that projects the dot can block the front sight post. He attempts to get a better cowitness by mounting it back in this video, but the front sight post still appears to be pretty much covered. I know 1 guy with a video-camera on Youtube doesn't do this sight justice, so I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced difficulties with this, if it's an isolated incident, if this is common with Magpul MBUS sights, etc... Thanks |

I have a Magpul MBUS rear sight and standard front sight. I have 1/3 co-witness using the Micro Dot Gen3 and riser w/quick release from primary arms. The LED ramp does stick up slightly but I still have lots of front sight post available for co-witness. I am very pleased with this red dot and will recommend it to everyone.
The guy in the video did not follow instructions for attaching the mount. "Adjust the nut in very small increments till the riser firmly locks with no front and back movement." My mount is on the rail rock solid and detaches easily if necessary. |

Primary Arm Micro Dot Gen3 with riser & Kill Flash. Mounted on M&P 15-22
My review: The Fantastic: Customer service. Shipped same day as ordered on Saturday. I boogered up the battery cover. No questions–– Primary Arms just sent another free of charge. The Good: Very nice Finish. Small & Light. Sharp dot. Solid brightness adjust. Sealed battery cap. Solid aim adjust. Holds zero (on a .22 no big deal). Kill Flash works well as Sun shade. The Less than Good: Emergency release lever is useless. Does not co-witness well with MBUS (very very very low in glass and light emitter covers front sight post) Click on the pics for larger sharp view. http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/7092/dsc02712.th.jpg http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/3387/dsc02728u.th.jpg http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/8349/dsc02687.th.jpg http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/4251/dsc02742.th.jpg http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/5729/dsc02755i.th.jpg http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/2286/dsc02757n.th.jpg http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/2273/dsc02758h.th.jpg |

Front sight visibility suffers because the height of the riser lifts the bottom of the Micro Dot sight window and light emitter into sight plane of his MBUS (mine too). Depending on where the front post height is adjusted, the emitter obstructs the view of all or part of the front sight post. Even if the Micro Dot sight window was the size of a coffee can... with the same emitter placement and sitting atop the same riser, how would that change anything? Also, what is the 'wrong slot' and how does that change his MBUS sight plane in relation to Micro Dot mounting placement? |

Also, what is the 'wrong slot' and how does that change his MBUS sight plane in relation to Micro Dot mounting placement? The small window comes into play because 1/3 of a small space is a even smaller space. Not much room to work with for sight visibilty. We know that moving the emitter to the side will give more sight visibilty. That is part of the next revision but that is still months out. ARs are pretty standard so I need to understand what distance the irons are zeroed that produce no cowitness. have not experienced that with 50 or 100 yard zero. The guy in the video was bitching that he had to move the red dot too far back when he could have moved his rear sight into the proper position and achieved the same results. He also could move the front out to get a longer sight radius. I don't think that would impact cowitness either but hurts his credabilty. We have about a dozzen ARs so let me know the setup that does not allow for cowitness and we will duplicate it and let people know what to avoid. Troys front and rear work, Magpul front and rear work, F fixed front and all flip rearsI have trie work. If anyone has a setup that does not please let me know the details. If anyone is not satified we will take it back. Thanks Marshall |

I looked at the video again and a few comments.
1: The instructions say to adjust the lever in very small increments., If you crank the nut down all the way like he did in the video it compresses the springs and it will not work. If you have done that we will replace it. I know it in not a great design. 2: The irons or red dot must be zeroed. Then you adjust to match the ones that are zeroed first. His might have been, just sayin. The Micros tend to be only a few clicks off out of the box. If you irons are zeroed you adjust the dot to sit on top of the front post. Again we want the feedback but need the details of any setup that is not working as it should. Thanks Marshall |

Anyone know about my GSG Question? Nick has been trying to research it. It sounds like once you put the rail on a GSG 5 it will not sit low enough to cowitness. I see you posted in the GSG area as well so maybe we will get definitive answer. I will pick one up at the next gun show so we can explore all the options. Marshall |

I can see the front post tip (just barely) over the light emitter. I have mine zeroed at 50 yards. Here's a pic of the front sight so we're on the same page as far as where the post is set rather than talking about zero. For photo sake (so there is no camera angle illusion) I put the rear MBUS on backwards right up against the Micro Dot. Notice how the emitter is nearly 50% up into the rear aperture. For 'proper' co-witness the pic of the aperture should show 360 degrees of light, not approximately 200 degrees as you see here with the emitter blocking it, right? The difference of 180 / 200approx degrees is what I see of the front sight post. Not much. FYI - This rifle is a toy for me so these postings here are an exercise in trying to learn something (not nutting up over it.) It's just that as I was reading through the thread I noticed comments similar to what I was experiencing and the answers of larger glass and rail slot aren't making sense to me for the issue here. Thanks.... I doubt it will. I put a T-1 on and it didn't work. Do you have a mid length spacer to get it up a little so the front post doesn't get in the way?

I also received my Micro Dot Gen2 in the mail today and really surprised on how good it looks. I have heard alot of great reviews of these clone scopes that Primary arms is selling. I have mine mounted on a GSG5 and the Primary Arms M3 I have mounted on my Sig 522. I will only use these sights on 22 rilfes. I only buy the real red dots for the high powered weapons.
I had noticed that when it's on 1 you can't see the dot but when it's turn it to 2 you can hardly see the dot. You have to have it dialed in to 3-5 before you can get a really good view of the dot. Is anyone else's sights like that? |
|
Has anyone found a qd or flip mount/magnifier setup that will work with the gen 2 micro in a larue HK mount? To save some hunting if someone needs the info, that gives an absolute co-witness with normal iron sights, mbus in my case.
I'm thinking the LT670-EO since the eotechs it is used with are absolute co witness when direct mounted as well. However, that leaves figuring out a magnifier that will fit. It appears to be a 34mm diameter. Obviously I could use the 3XFTS but I'd rather something less costly. Any other options in that height? eta: I was just looking at the PA deluxe magnifier and it sure looks like one of the pics shows it lined up with an xps eotech, which is the correct height. Am I correct? I'm not much of an eotech afficionado so I'm not sure what I'm looking at. |

can anyone clarify which of the Larue T1 mounts will allow co-witness with my irons and the gen2 or gen3 primary arms micro red dot? Medium (LT660HK)??

Can someone tell me which mount I would need to use with the MicroDot Gen2 if I want to be able to get absolute co-witness on a S&W M&P15-T, with the factory flip up front and rear sights? Or is 1/3 co-witness the only way I can go?
Also, if I were to get the Gen2 sight and the optional Riser with Emergency Release lever, what type of co-witnessing can I expect on the above rifle? Can I later remove the riser and keep the Emergency Release Lever in order to install the sight on a Mossberg 590 with optional weaver rail? I know that I will very likely eventually end up with more than one MicroDot sights, but I have to justify this slowly one step at a time. Thanks in advance. |

I haven't messed with the emergency release mount, but the larue HK height mount generally gives absolute co witness on AR's.

As already posted the LaRue LT-660 HK gives absolute cowitness. Our riser gives a low, lower 1/3 cowitness. Absolute is OK if you keep your rear down. On a Micro, becasue the window is so small, the irons block a lot of the sight window when up. Yes you can remove the riser and install the low base at any tme. You won't want to do it on a regulars basis as you would probably wind up stripping the very small screw heads. |

["I just found out that the MBUS has A2 style apertures. So with your low light sight, it sits lower than the small aperture. Try zeroing with your small aperture and see if you get a better co-witness."]
MBUS apertures do not operate like that. With MBUS the large aperture is always in the up position. The small aperture flips up and down independently. The pic I posted is with the small aperture flipped down. Can't get a better co-witness by flipping the small aperture up and in front of the large aperture. . |
