So I used my 900 lumen light last night in a defensive situation….. sort of :-) I was at my family home to take the German Shepherd for a walk around the neighborhood. This is Germantown in Louisville where the small shotgun houses are just a few feet apart. After our walk the Shepherd was off his leash and sniffing around the neighbor’s yard. I started to go between the houses to go relieve myself (I didn’t feel like going inside) when suddenly there was a tussle of leaves and a dark shape rushing towards me. In the ½-second it took me to get-out my Elzetta (I also had a law-enforcement canister of OC but in the moment I went for the light) I realized it was just a cat running towards me but my Elzetta was already out so I decided to go-ahead and zap the cat anyway. As soon as the strobing 900-lumens hit that critter he/she made a sharp 90-degree turn and ran full-speed head-first into the concrete foundation of the house, then turned 180 degrees, sprinted 10-feet and ran full-speed head-first into my neighbor’s foundation. This repeated itself several times with the cat, apparently blinded and terrified, running full-speed into concrete walls. Eventually that nasty critter slipped past my feet and made an escape narrowly avoiding capture by the Shepherd (he is 14 and can’t run any more by the way). If the Elzetta does that to a creature as evil and devious as a cat I can only image what it would do to an over-aggressive drunk.
