PSA,
You killed it at SHOT this year. You have so many exciting projects on the horizon it is not only impossible to ignore you, but it actually makes folks nervous that you will screw it up- that's because we are all extremely hopeful that you will succeed in pulling it off. Bandwidth is limited in any size organization, and resources will need to be divided between alllll these different projects. I want to urge you that when the time comes to allocate scarce resources... and tough decisions need to be made... cut one of the projects designed to compete with an already-available better-weapon from an OEM-source on price, and THROW IN EXTRA BEHIND THE JAKL. This is something truly unique and exciting from you guys. It has a lot of potential. If you don't screw it up or "Gen"-it-out, it will be a must have like a CZ Scorpion. That being said I wanted to separate the JAKL from the $300 generic Glock thread (aren't real Glocks about $400 all over the country?) and get some discussion going separately. Very bad ideas are starting to seep into that thread, as with twist rate, and smart decisions need to be made. So here are my unsolicited good ideas: TWIST RATE - should be 1:8 in .300 BLK, and should be 1:7 in 5.56. GAS SETTINGS - should be un-suppressed, suppressed super, suppressed sub, and OFF. Don't miss out on the opportunity to take advantage of your main-thing-here. HAND GUARD - Just run it as a monolithic extrusion, complete with the receiver. Don't make a separate plastic hand guard. Separate receiver and hand guard would only make sense if you were going for something modular- and it has been said different receivers for different calibers. LOWER RECEIVER - I see two designs using pistons, not in need of a buffer, and both using AR-15 lug distance for compatibility. Both are using gap-plate spacer doohickeys to blend it in to the rear. These are the BRN-180 and the JAKL. BRN-180M receiver has the built in 1913 rail. Can you use that? Call them up- they'll even put your name on the side. THE DOOHICKEY - just have it as an add-on in a drop down for folks who buy the upper and want to mount it to an existing SBR'd lower. THE STOCK - I dig the triangle folder and I know why you did it. It looks like it was the right length for something with a shorter receiver or closer hinge though. I'd call SBT and see if they can take an inch or two off. Here are my bad ideas that should be ignored: MODULARITY - Imagine if it had a MRP-ish barrel change? If you could locate the port in the same spot and size it correctly for each caliber, you could use the same everything-else. ENHANCED CONTROLS - What else can you guys do to further differentiate the JAKL... maybe drop a Norgon-ish ambi catch, Maritime-ish BHO, and ambi selector in with them? With your buying power, you could do this cheap. |

Has anyone had their 13.7 JAKL cut down to 12.5 or 11.5? I'm hoping for a halfway decent black Friday deal, but I can't decide if I want to do 13.7 and leave it 13.7, cut it down and sbr it, or just get a 10.5 and SBR it.

I really want an 11.5 with the slightly longer handguard from the 13.7. Im hoping that PSA expands the barrel and handguard options some more. |

Well I finally pulled the trigger on a 10.5 JAKL. Ordered the ODG upper and ODG lower build kit to throw it on an existing SBR lower. Can't wait to get it and post a range report!

Only malfunctions were from me trying out different gas settings. Cant really speak to accuracy. I only shot it with irons and it did as well as I expected. Will need to get something magnified on it to see how well I can do with it. |

Just kind of tired waiting for new options . I'll probably put my T2 and 3x mag on Unity mounts to start with, along with my RC2. I should be able to get about 100yd out of my home range, but if I get a chance to push it out further, I'll try my LPVO to see what kind of groups I can get. |

I have a lower with an F5 stock arriving in a couple of days.
What is the OAL measurement to Form 1 with a 10.5" upper? |

What happened to the pic rail mounted stock that was at the 2023 shot show?
It looked like a cleaner Bren 2 stock. |

Maiden voyage with my 300 blk Jakl was less than stellar.
The bolt doesn't want to go fully into battery when cycling and sometimes when dropping with the paddle. It's just sluggish and seems like the action spring is too weak for the bolt mass and friction. I may have a mag/bolt drag issue with Pmags that continues, but that's what i use for 300Blk. Even with the mag out the bolt seems sluggish and there isn't much preload on the action spring. A bump to the carrier and it will lock in and let it fire. Gas setting to get lock back was full open for subs, and 2 clicks from full open for supers. 110 Vmax from Ammo Inc 200gr SB subs 10rd Pmags and 300blk 30rd Pmags The longest string i got from ~30 rounds was 3 in a row. Anyone with similar experience and possible remedies? On a positive note, recoil feels good and it sounds decent with the R9. @PalmettoStateArmory Is a stronger action spring available? ETA I've seen that others have mag drag issues as well. I'll try some other mags and hand cycle it a good bit to smooth things out. It may be as simple as relieving the carrier for mag clearance, but in my opinion it does need more spring preload. Attached File |

Definitely mag drag like shown above.
The only mag type i have that doesn't drag is Okay GI. Submitted a warranty request but i can mill the carrier myself if that is the fix. Attached File Attached File |

Had the perfect radius carbide ball mill... May be hard to tell but i removed material the full length of the carrier and chamfered the sharp edges. Thickness is equivalent to an AR15 and AR180 carrier. No more mag drag Will test it out this week. Attached File Attached File |

I think I really like this JAKL. I'll be shooting it for the first time this weekend, but it's an awfully handy little gun. Seems very well made, just a bit front heavy which isn't a huge issue. Was a little bummed that I got the old style charging handle, but just ordered the new knurled one. Will be putting a SF4P on it tonight. |

Thank you, Josiah Update: The fix i made above did it, runs like a top now with multiple mags. Looks like the extra clearance for the mag lips was all it needed. Even worst case, using the mag as a monopod it still cycles fine. Was also able to dial the gas down one notch vs original for both ammo types due to less friction. Think this will be a new favorite. Here's an easy way to diagnose the issue i had.
Empty mag, let the bolt close gently until it hangs (or fully closes) Pop the mag out and see what happens... Jakl Mag Drag |

Does anyone have a list of 1913 stocks that work with the JAKL? I'm asking because the B&T stock apparently doesn't work with some guns because it's so tall.
|
|
|

Why is some stuff labeled "black friday" for the sale, but its the same price as normal? JAKL uppers at 829 and 779 for with and without muzzle devices, same as last week.

Anyone have weights on these guns?
I was asking about them at a shoot and was told not to buy one bc: Heavy, HEAVY, poor gas settings, and tons of gas to the face (especially when suppressed). |

View Quote I posted my weight somewhere above. 10.5" model with the F5 stock, irons, empty pmag, and the suppressor is 8.008lb. Suppressor is advertised as 12.5oz, so that would put the gun with irons and a mag at 7.25lb. I dont have any issues at all with any gas to the face. They ship with multiple gas plugs, so like 8 settings total. I think whoever you talked to is misinformed or spouting what they heard 4th person from a youtube video. |

All I've heard about this rifle is "heavy, heavy, heavy." I'll admit that it is a little front heavy, but it really is not nearly as noticeable or as big of an issue as it's made out to be, even with the RC2 on it. As far as a bit of a range report goes: on the first few rounds, it was ejecting but not picking up the next round from the mag. This was on full gas. I put the suppressor on and played with the gas and it was working fine on the first 3 settings but wouldn't cycle on the lowest gas setting, with the best being the second setting (one click over from full). I wasn't getting blasted by gas at all and it was very pleasant to shoot. I then took the can off and it cycled perfectly fine on the first two settings (full and second click), so I think it just needed to be broken in a bit. Only put about 100 rounds through it and it was really nice to shoot, but plan on getting a good 100yd zero and putting it through the paces next time I shoot it. I'm pretty darn happy with it so far. I did not bring or try the other included gas plug but it looks the same as the one installed in the gun and it was not S marked or anything. Are the short uppers supposed to come with the S marked gas plug? |

I bought a Jakl lower recently. I ordered an upper and it arrived today. The rear takedown pin won’t go in without forcing it. I can force it, but don’t want to damage it or void the warranty. Has anyone else encountered this?

@PalmettoStateArmory
I may have missed it, if so I apologize. Are there written instructions for the new 8 position gas block including disassembly available? Thank you I have a 5.56 14.5 upper, recently delivered. The mag drag issue discussed on this page of the thread is real and you may want to have your peeps take a look at it. P-mags are a no go. Aluminum gi mags work fine. The bolt carrier needs to be clearanced a bit more on the bottom to clear P-mags, like the poster above demonstrated. |
|
|
I have the 13.7" and when I read about the mag-drag issue, I went and got mine and checked it. Unless I'm doing it wrong, I had no issues with the mag dragging. I only checked it with Pmags, and only a couple so I don't know if mine is just clearanced properly or what. Interesting issue.
