Since this is my first post and I am a new member I wanted to make it count. I just called colt and spent over an hour on hold and finally got through. I spoke to Louis He Informed me that the difference between 2012 and 2013 configurations is First run was sent with two mags a cleaning kit rods a sling a manual. 2013 configuration is sent with One mag and manual only no sling no cleaning rods No cleaning kit. Other than that rifles or the same. I guess I lucked out I have an early run three digit serial number. With all the goodies. Also wanted to let you know Louis said adapter blocks will be available in mid-March.

He didn't know the price and said it would show up on the website in mid-March. Sorry I did try to get a price though.

I hope to have a block ASAP. I don't care what it will cost. I will probably never use it. Just being honest. My 901 is a 308, but I have to have that block in my 901 "kit". |

I knew that was the case with the M4s, but mine is a 2XXX serial number and came with the standard kit (i.e. 2 colt spec pmags, sling, cleaning, etc). Saw other 901 2013 configs on GB that appeared to come with the standard kit as well.

She said Maybe it was an early 2013 configuration and they accidentally sent the extra mag And cleaning kit. She said all the ones that are leaving now have only one mag no sling No cleaning kit and no rods. And the date she gave me on the adapter block was mid March or early April. Hope this helps. |

I'm interested in the date of your 2xxx SN. Mine is 08xx and has a date of 8.12.12 when I scanned the QR code on the box. Be kinda interesting to see what the rate of production is for these rifles.
And HK_Nut, thanks for the update on when to expect the mag blocks! |

dont put so much faith in colt phone reps.
that info on the block is not accurate. head of sales and marketing told me late june, maybe. thats not the word from the famously ignorant phone reps and there are small technical changes changes on the new 901s for this year. one will be, no double screw on the rails that holds the bottom rail on. |

I've got the memory of a goldfish with ADD. Is there a post where someone used an aftermarket ambi safety/selector? Mine is swappable, but I think ambi like my other AR's is a better idea.

My serial number is MCC0004XX I got it at cabelas like one day after sandy hook. They had it on the rack with all the other ARs first thing I noticed was the giant mag well and the sexy curves. I picked her up and it was love. I really wanted the FDE but being as how I had two other guys ask me if I was going to buy her within like 30 seconds of picking her up I said hell yeah. And now that I know colt won't make it in FDE at least not now I am glad I did.

I installed a BADASS in my 901, no problems (except that I think I'm partial to the Noveske 60 degree selector now). |

And HK_Nut, thanks for the update on when to expect the mag blocks! Maybe it's hidden under some tape, but where is the QR code on the box? All I see is a bar code on the blue label on the end of the box, and it doesn't contain any information. I did find a sticker with a QR code on the bag the rifle came in and it does contain the S/N and a date. My S/N is in the 21XX range and the date is 09/20/2012. I heard that the date stamped on the bag was the "born on" date, but mine says AUG 12, which is a month before the date in the QR code. Which date is correct? I bought the gun in mid-October, so I'm curious about the production numbers too since the serial numbers were up in the 2000+ range by August or September of 2012. Any chance they are not making or releasing them in S/N order? It seems that some people are getting guns months later with lower S/Ns. |

It may be the same code on the bag, I seem to have discarded mine. I do remember the serial number was on the bag, because I blurred it out when I put a picture of it online. But that means Colt shipped about 1200 901's in about 5 weeks, well before the panic. Nice. And another photo request: can someone take a pic or tell me if their mag catch bar is flush with the receiver with mag in place? I noticed mine sits flush and the mag release button seems to sit deeper than I'm used to with regular AR's. It also makes the ambi release a little troublesome since most of it's pivot range is gone in that position. |

I did notice that with the 308 mag in place the mag release does not protrude as far as a normal AR. Pretty sure that's due to the fact that it's designed to accept the smaller mags for 556. So technically with an Adapter In place and a smaller mag the catch would have to travel further to engage the mag. I think that with the adapter and the smaller mag They will have more of a natural feel that we are all used to. I think it's a small price to pay for versatility But it will definitely take some getting used to. Also if you look at the inside well you will see how much longer the catch is And how it has a step in it. I'll try to take some pics tonight. |

Ok, new question and thoughts on a magnified optic for this system.
Shawn mentioned that going to powerful and expecting too much from a milspec brl may make some people disappointed. I understand that. If you were shooting within 500 yds most of the time, with ball ammo most of the time, hunting on occasion, what power optics do you feel is suited to this platform? Right now I have a Leupold VXR with Hog Plex 1-4x in LaRue mt, and a Aimpoint Comp 4. I am thinking that something in the 1-6x, 2-7x, 0r 3-9x would be nice. What are your thoughts as far as matching an optic to the platform? Thanks |

I have a question also. Has anyone noticed that the oem colt mags have a nub midway down the back side (primer side) I just bought a new POF P308 I know they use the same sr25 mags and freaked out when the POF wouldn't take the 901 mag. Then I saw it a small tit on the colt mags. Both colt and POF mags are SR25 pattern and the POFs work in the colt but not the other way around. That sucks as I don't want to cut the nubs off. I know it's stupid but I would rather buy extra mags and leave them original. Has anyone else seen this?

Thank you for the reply. So will there be any issues with running non colt spec mags in the colt? Does anyone have any spare mags to sell either spec or not is ok? Thank you.

None of my seven standard 20LR Pmags had issues. I buffed the tabs off my Colt specs now they run fine too. |

I ask because everything you have asked has been answered in detail in past pages. Please dont wheel and deal and ask to buy and sell mags in this thread. the website has strict rules on buying and selling outside of the EE. please go in there for that or use IM so you dont get your self in trouble of this thread locked |

for you guys who are always asking about the so called "born on date" on the bags.
its pointless. today I received a 901 straight from colt. not from colt to a distributor ,to a dealer. From Hartford , straight to me. It was made last week. I know, because i was told so. the date on the bag is 10/12 the gun was made a week ago. the dates on the bag or random and un dependable at best. meaningless at worse. there is no ryme or reason to it. I would suggest not even bothering to speculate on the meaning of the numbers on its placenta |

Just wondering, as I've had a few "allocated" for me from previous dealer orders for months with word that they're "pretty sure they'll be in before the end of the year." I got an interesting call this morning from one of the dealers who have "allocated" me an LE901...
He said that they got an e-mail from Colt and as of April 1, 2013, Colt will begin shipping all LE901s that are packed after that date with the 5.56 conversion block. The price will go up about $150 (if I remember correctly). I wouldn't guess they'd hold back on shipping rifles out because of not having enough conversion blocks, so I'd guess (although it wasn't stated) that they'd have enough to start shipping the blocks themselves. Still no rifle for me, but I'm encouraged that I'm still there on the list. tl;dr - 5.56 conversion blocks getting into at least some real consumer hands starting 4/1. |
|
|
That is some freaking great info, did they happen to mention if the blocks themselves will be available around the same time? I missed the first 100 that included it by 5 rifles so I am anxious to get my hands on one, thanks again for the great info bigmac

It only came from a voicemail. He only mentioned new rifles packed after April 1. |

colt has too much going on for the foreseeable future no plans for the SBR or the FDE or other types of 901 I would guess that to change whenever the current anti gin agenda to pass and die down some and things return to a more normal state. But I wouldnt expect anything new for a long time |

Problem seems to be that the front of the follower is diving and sticking. Bolt catch either catches front of carrier or bolt closes. This isnt happening every round, one of five or so. |

Here is S/N365 that I got my hands on 11SEPT12, here are the recently added Magpul MIAD with a B2 beaver tail and a Black Rain Ordinance Tac latch. I used to have nearly the entire rifle wrapped with Multicam Camoform, but now I only have the barrel, buffer tube, and battery compartments.
