ETA Update for StrikeFire: Late August/ early September 2008
From SWFA or alternate vendor? |
Interesting! Mine was preordered on June 12. Stephanie with SWFA said she should have an update today or monday. |
Just got home and had a package waiting on the porch
First impression - very nice design and execution. I like having a green or red dot option. To my eye the red dot is not quite as bright as my Aimpoint but the green appears brighter, but that could just be eye color sensitivity. Plenty of brightness range settings and no problem in daylight on red or green. The doubler is OK but for me the small increase in power is not worth the loss of field of view, personal choice on this. Overall very happy with this sight out of the box, now I have to get some range time to give it a workout. Quick update: Compared to my Aimpoint compML-XD 3 MOA if I set the Aimpoint to the 3rd highest setting it looks comparable to the Strikefire on high. |

223 gets the job done, 308 makes a statement, 50 BMG shows an attitude!

No Pics?
That's not even fair |
Anyone know what the ETA is on a fresh order?

Hey everyone! From what I was told by the people at Vortex, (if I remember correctly) the next shipment should be mid or late sept. My impressions: I put the low mount it on my ak-47 and went through 300rds and it kept zero. A guy at the range that was looking at it dropped my rifle directly on the scope (nice), it still held zero. Everything functions as it is supposed to. All that and the outstanding customer service and the no bs lifetime warranty from vortex makes it a good purchase in my book. Although time will tell, I rate this way higher than alot of the other options on the market that I tried. Oh, and check hawkeye optics of Oregon. I believe they still have a few in stock. Vortex should have their contact info.
hmm...Can you give a comparison of dot visibility/brightness in bright sunlight? |
Just placed an order for one through Sportsmans Guide about 1-1/2 weeks ago. They are backordered a bit, but it should should ship soon.
The Strikefire on the red high setting was clearly visible in daylight, and this is the setting I would use for bright daylight. I don't use the high setting on my Aimpoint since it is actually brighter that what I think is optimal for precision aiming of a rifle, it seems to covers to much area on the high setting. I usually use the second or third setting on the Aimpoint. Perhaps the high setting would be better in CQB where fast target acquisition is paramount. The green setting on the Strikefire appears to be as bright as the Aimpoint on high but as I mentioned previously that may be eye color sensitivity. Regardless on green it is brighter and very visible - comparable to the Aimpoint. I have not been to the range yet so no "live" report. It will take some time before users have had enough experience to know how well it holds up in the field. |

Great feedback and comparison! Much thanks |
how about some new pics of you guys that got your???
VortexSam,
ETA on absolute cowitness? Can I pre-order one from SWFA and let them sit on the order until they arrive? Thanks, Jason |
Okay here's a dumb newb question. What's the diff between co-witness and 'absolute' co-witness? Thinking logically, is that 'absolute' means the illuminated dot in the site is exactly inline with front and rear BUIS?
is Vortex selling them out of the store (in Middleton)????
No, we don't sell direct. However we do display items in a showroom so that people can at least see the product here. |
More StrikeFires coming in soon!!!
Can I hook this up to my ARMS 17S Mount or do I have to use the supplied mount?
It should work just fine with any aftermarket mount as long as it uses 30mm rings. |
More StrikeFires coming in soon!!!
So when will these be available again? I just took possession of a new 9mm upper that I'd like to put this on. If these are to far out I'll probably grab an EOTech for it.
No Aim "Yes I'm listening. What?"
dabigbozman "Friends are like butt cheeks. Shit might separate them,But they always come back together." double_trouble_2003"Let's compare fireballs." |
Hopefully in a couple of weeks. We're working hard trying to get the next production run finished. |
More StrikeFires coming in soon!!!
hdamn i hope there are enough coming to cover backorders!! |
Were there changes made or just logistical issues in getting the second batch? |
Logistical issues. We're hounding the factory to get these, but they are being slow. Believe me, we want these as bad as you guys. |
More StrikeFires coming in soon!!!
I hope it's not the same factory that makes Chinese baby milk... then we're really screwed!
Just received mine today!
Ordered it through Sportsmans Guide for $116.99 (buyers club price) and it was $132.47 incl shipping. Purchased it on 9/22/08 and received it on 10/08/08 ... basically I received it in 16 days. Couldn't be happier. Thanks Vortex ! ! ! |
I also ordered through SG. What height mount came with it? SG does not list choice for the mount height. Thanks. |
Ummm..what? $8.00??? Don't you mean $80.00? What mount is that and where did u get it for $8? That's a steal!
scopeandlaser.com for $8.00
Shipping is an additional $8.00 and you'll have it in 1 week. Just search the site for the term "AP Cantilever mount" and you'll find it. It's rock solid. |
anybody know who has the Strikefire in stock???
RandyStacyE,
Have you received this mount yet? If so, how stable is it and any pics with it mounted with the vortex? Thanks in advance |

I have waited almost 4 months for the strikefire, im thinking about cancelling my order from SWFA and buying another red dot sight. Im a pretty patient guy, but this is getting silly. And im pretty sure there is other shooters that have waited longer than i have. The most annoying thing is that after waiting about 2 months, and i heard that other guys got their strikefire within 3 weeks from another website.......................still waiting.
Rant off. |

I'm really sorry that has happened to you. I think that one of the tricks some guys have been using is to order a hunt model, as the demand for those wasn't as high. If they needed a higher ring set I think they were ordering that aftermarket. Hopefully we will be getting some more in a few weeks, but with the growing demand I can tell you it won't be enough to fill all back orders. We're just going to keep plugging away though and try to get them out there as best we can. |

Nice looking scope, I like name brand as much or more than most.
But I also know the prices companies charge for their merchandise is way high. I'm for makeing a buck. I can also see wanting big bucks for your products but I also believe the firearm industry has some of the highest dollar products you can find. I would like to see a company offer good products at decent prices. I have a new TA31 ACOG, it's nice Is it in my opinion over priced? HELL YES..but that's life. |
I also have waited too long. Placed my order with SWFA in June, cancelled it 2 days ago. I saw many people on here who ordered one and within 3 weeks had received it. I'm pretty sure I was one of the first people to order. 5 months is too long to wait for a red dot. Not trying to bash Vortex, I'm still interested in one of the Strikefires, it just won't be my next purchase.

What in the world is going on with this sight.... Its been months not just since I ordered it, but its been months since the estimated promise dates... this is starting to get pretty frustraiting. I have even emailed Vortex for an estimate and no reply.. About to loose another customer, I am only a few days away from cancelling my order....
it'll be acouple of months till i am even ready to order so i'm not real worried.
for the guys that have them, now that you have lived with them a bit, any new insights? i'd hate to order to find problems have cropped up and a new design is in the works soon. |

Who was it that you emailed at our company specifically? I would like to find out why your email was ignored. That's something that shouldn't ever happen. As far as the estimated dates, we have sent some out pretty close to the dates we said, but each time we haven't had nearly enough to fill all back orders (demand has been huge), so some people have had to keep waiting. I'm really sorry that has happened, but believe me we've tried to get them out as fast as possible. Who did you place your order with and what was the date? I sent an email to the [email protected] on december 2...
I ordered from liberty optics on October 10th.. the first estimate was 2 weeks, and then it was mid november and then it was end of november and now there is just no estimate like its whenever it comes it comes. I just got my m4 upper in October and have yet to fire it cause I am waiting on the strikefire, I have since ordered a BUIS, but I dont really want to waste my time in having to sight in the BUIS one day and then having to do it all over again with the strikefire another day.. Just becoming a hassle at this point. I ordered a SPR/M4 silencer around the same time and it seems I may get that before the strikefire (one of the most obsured things Ive ever heard) It just seems like there are no answers as to what the heck is going on with them.. At first I thought it was ok since It seemed you were going to stop production till you find out the problem with the glare in the lenses, but then it seemed like you didnt think there was anything to be done with that and were going to keep producing them with a guarantee of fixing them later if a solution is found... I just want to go shooting is that too much to ask.. :) Originally Posted By VortexSam:

I’ve only had mine a ~month picked it up in the EE. I’ve got 800 ~ rnds fired with it now. Spent a week in the woods hunting with it and have used it every weekend along with a few short shoots during the week. It’s taken a 3ft drop once accidently and held zero. Mine has a couple black specs that float around and I can see the glare in the right light. The glare isn’t really an issue to me the black specs I’d like to see solved on future ones. It’s not an aimpoint or eo (I have both). But for a range gun or hunting it’s fine. I can see a couple more in my future………. |

They try to scan them and find legit ones, but sometimes they might miss one or two. So, we must have just missed yours. I'm sorry that happened. You can also call us any time between 8am-5pm CST at 1-800-426-0048 and you will get to talk to a real live person. We did ship some out in the time frames that you mention, but not enough to cover back all orders. So, my guess is that there were just too many in front of you. Again, sorry. We are trying to get as many in as possible, but it's been difficult and I have hesitated to give people dates because even when I stress they are just estimates people try and hold me to that exact date. There are so many variables that can hold things up that it can be difficult to know exactly when. As mentioned by r6vr6 we did just send some more out, so hopefully you will get yours very soon. The best bet is to call Scott at LO and find out from him where you are on his list. We tried to divy them up to our dealers as fair as we could, but we still did not have enough to cover all of the back orders. Hopefully that will change soon as we get the factory geared up to deal with the numbers we are requesting. Again, I am really sorry that you have waited so long and your emails went unanswered. If we can do anything please don't hesitate to ask me here on the forum, send me an IM, or call us directly and we'll do our best to take care of you. -Sam |

Getting mine today from Midway. Had to buy the low mount, but have plenty of rings to substitute once it gets here.
They still show them available as long as you don't mind swapping rings. Just a little heads up for those waiting. |
Just ordered another StrikeFire. This one was through MidwayUSA. I chose the low mount because it was in stock, ready to ship, and it will arrive by the 23rd.
I'm going to use a LaRue Cantilever CompM2 LT-129 mount. Unbelievable ... the mount costs more than the sight ! ! ! I’ve always wanted to try LaRue’s mounts so I can’t wait. I'll be sure to post some pics. |

I finally got mine yesturday after waiting for almost 5 months. I was going to cancel my order last week, then i got a e mail from SWFA stating that it was going to get sent out. Now i cant shoot it till spring due to the range being closed from all the snow.
Now i used to be in sales and marketing, and i am not impressed with the flooding the market with "product Hype"(supply) and not being able to deliver the product in a timely fasion to people that have waited for almost half a year, all you are doing is setting up your company for fail, and having lots of pissed off potential customers calling, e-mailing, and generaly complaining about the lack of product.(demand) If i knew it was going to take this long, i would never have ordered one. But then again, i can put some blame on SWFA for not stating on their website that the sights were on back order, i asumed that they were in stock at the time of order. My bad. The sight does seem pretty decent and well put together. As for the scope caps? i played with them for 30 seconds last night, and then removed them of the sight and threw them away, absolutly horrible, they wont stay shut, and move all over the place. The mount seems pretty beefy and seems to be made well, but like i said it will be a few more months before i get to test the sight due to the snow.I do like that fact that you can have a red dot, or a green dot, and the buttons seem very positive. On the highest setting, there is a kind of glare, or "sunset haze" (for lack of better wording) inside the sight, its almost a red lighted ring around the inside of the sight that can be distracting until you lower the light setting. As for the 2X doubler, the fit sucks and wont stay threaded with the scope caps on, if you plan on removing the caps like i did, then you wont have a problem with it, and is a nice addition, im not sure if i will use it, but its there if i need to. Vortex Sam, i hope that you guys can learn somthing from this semi disaster, please dont get me wrong, i am not bad mouthing you company, i am just very unhappy about how this marketing was handled. Bitch/rant off. |
