Great summary.....In your conclusion you mentioned LWRC for piston....any thoughts on the Adam Arms piston version? http://www.adamsarms.net/details.asp?sku=010124221001

Took my Spike's 5.45 to the 600 yard match this morning. Shot a 179-3X out of a possible 200-20X using a 3.5x ACOG. The last time I went, I shot a 186-3X with a scoped bolt action rifle.
It made round holes at 600 yards. Scoring explanation: The center of the target is an X. It's worth 10 points. If you shoot 20 rounds in the X, you get 200-20X. The circle outside that is worth 10, but no X - so if you shoot all 10s, you get 200-0X. The circles go out to 5, then there's just "misses". So the 179-3X means that on average, almost all shots were within the 9 ring, with 3 hits in the X. The X is a 6" circle, 10 is 12", 9 is 18", 8 is 24", 7 is 36", 6 is 48", and 5 is 60". Quoted: Great summary.....In your conclusion you mentioned LWRC for piston....any thoughts on the Adam Arms piston version? http://www.adamsarms.net/details.asp?sku=010124221001 I don't have much hands on experience with Adams Arms products, I've fired a few of their 5.56 and 6.8 uppers but haven't seen their 5.45s. Given the performance of the Spike's, I have no use for a piston 5.45, though others might certainly find them useful. |

87GN, that is one of the best write-ups I've seen on Arfcom. I know it takes a fair amount of time to put something like that together.
Thanks for your efforts! Awesome work. |

87 GN,
Do you plan to try some Hornady V-Max 60gr stuff w/ a high power scope to wring out the true potential of this upper? |

DELIVERY IS EXPECTED AROUND 9/7/10 Hey AIM...any updates? I got 4,000 rounds of 5.45 from you guys being delivered Tuesday and I could use an upper |
|
Hmm, that v-max looks good - what sort of guess on prices?
I have 2 spam cans - but would love to get a bunch that I don't have to worry about giving the ar-15 a bath each time I shoot it. I have to think this one over - 2 more spam cans - one case of 545 of clean stuff. I wonder just how long I can last eating rice or noodles for supper each night. This weeks fun budget just got placed on hold to make sure I can pick up an extra case of something. Thanks for the update. |

Great news on the uppers. My cases of 5.45x39 has been burning a hole in my pocket just waiting to be used.

You guys will NOT be disappointed... I wiped mine down and observed zero signs of corrosion on the upper. The lower (which was not Spikes, and had standard finishes) had moderate pitting on the fire control group and the safety.
Between that, great reliability when filthy, excellent accuracy out to 600 yards (and presumably beyond)...it's a winner... |

How long did you let it sit before you watered it/cleaned it? What was the cleaning process? Oh, and pictures of the pitting would be great. Awesome videos btw. |

I then put 3000 rounds through it. From when I first fired it to when I first cleaned it (yesterday) was about a month. I wiped it down with a rag and a q-tip or two. No water or other cleaning solvent was used. |

"Hmm, that v-max looks good - what sort of guess on prices? "
Seems I read somewhere it ends up being about fifty cents a round. If all you want is some N/C 5.45mm there's Silver Bear, Barnaul, Wolf etc. for less than half that number ...................... |

New product and only available at AIM Surplus. Will we be able to go to Spikes for parts (if needed), and things such as the revised 5.45 Cproducts follower to retrofit older mags? I'm looking forward to using this upper :D |

Hello Tom,
Do the C product mags sold at AIMS have the new enhanced followers? Is the magazine spring stronger than the older version? Are they the same as the ones sold at C product web site? Thanks |
|
The Cproducts followers would a good idea, for those of us who already run, or have a 5.45 gun and have a collection of the old mags.....

I want more than just NC - I reload most, but not all on my 223 long range rilfe with V-max. I am looking to pick up the A-max for a future long distant upper. I figure 14 - 20 cents a round for the upgrade to v-max if you consider that the normal bullet was free based on Brown / Silver Bear build up based on 223 style bullets. So the going rate based on that flawed logic would be 45 or less per round. Brad |

What's the word on the 8.25" uppers? Last I heard was Spikes is still working out the details.

so to get 6 advanced mags - the minimum to keep for a possible self defense rifle - buy 6 uppers?
Yep - silly - but I know I would be interested in picking up a dozen high end mags to make sure I have something for the life of the upper. Oh - thanks for the info on the magazines - I will most likely pick up a few extra range mags to putter with and spring into action when the higher end version becomes available. Between Orders from AIM, Spike's, and Spike's hardware from Aim, my budget seems to be always drained...at least it does leave me with a smile. Brad |

In the mean time it's not like the CP magazines don't work with the factory followers they come with. If you get magazines that don't work 100% just set them a side for when the enhanced followers come. We had a very Limited supply of enhanced followers and I wanted everyone who purchased the complete upper to get at least one good follower/magazine with it. |

IIRC, 87GN did mention that the springs may be a bit weak to have the magazines loaded for an extended period. He also mentioned the cost factor, which I can understand. May be Wolff would come out w/ some 5% XP springs |
