Please allow picts of people here who have taken deer with their ARs. The subject comes up every year and it is the same questions over again. I think a sticky would make things a lot easier.

Something like this...

2002-64gr My first AR15, factory Armalite M15A2 firing a 64gr powerpoint.

2004-64gr power point from A2 type rifle.

2005-55gr gameking SP1 type rifle. Yes, I know it is tiny. I was sleeping in my stand and just woke up to see three deer trotting out right in front of me. I didn't have a lot of time to think about how big the deer were before I shot.

2006-Ok, not killed with an AR but it should have been. Walking through a swamp and this feller jumped up in front of me. I didn't have time to get my rifle unslung so I just qiuck drew my pistol and capped him in the ass as he was running away.
Oh, 240gr XTP out of a Ruger Redhawk.

Updated! Just wanted to add a few more pictures.

2007, can't remember much about it but it was a banner year for us and we had dead deer hanging up from trees all over the FRONT yard.
Yeah, we are a bunch of rednecks...

2008, I think that is my .300 whisper when I first put it together.

2009, definitely the .300 in it's current configuration.

2010, skunked.

2011, same 300 whisper. I really like this rifle

Got my first deer ever tonight. I have never been an avid hunter but with the way the world is turning I wanted to learn/practice up.
First deer I have ever had a shot at
Have to say I did miss twice (beyond excited I guess)  but he let me have a third and I put it right thru his eye.

My first deer using my AR.
Federal TSX Triple Shock 55 gr.
Running shot thru the lungs at 60 yards while chasing two does.  Made about 4 big leaps and fell.
The bullet passsed thru causing a good blood trail, but didn't cause as much visible damage as I expected.  Hit ribs on both sides but only a quarter size hole going in and out.
What ever it did....it worked.

This was my first deer that i've seen get hit and run and then fall.  I always use a muzzleloader and always have the smoke cloud to deal with.

First buck here in Wisconsin, got him opening morning while heading back to the cabin from my stand. Had a 10 minutes staring contest with him (with rifle shouldered) until he moved enough to provide a clear shot. When I pulled the trigger the butt of the rifle slipped off my vest and jerked the shot left. I ended up hitting him in the neck rather than center mass. He dropped instantly and kicked for about 30 seconds. Dressed out at around 120lbs. Winchester 94 in 30-30 with Hornady LeverEvolution 160gr XTP at about 35-40 yards with irons.

I think so too, youngest in the group, with the oldest gun (by model at least, since there was a Mosin Nagant M44 in the woods too). The only way I could go more old school would have been to use flatnose rounds.

ETA: obviously I could go with a flintlock or matchlock for more "old school", but I'll stay practical.

My first deer, taken at 150yards, .270wsm Tikka T3.   I just picked up a stripped lower the other day that I will have completed hopefully early this summer in 6.8spc II for deer. I used my 5.56mm/.223 this last season as my goto truck gun, but still used my Tikka as my carry/ field gun.

This was my 2nd buck. Also taken with my 270wsm. Sorry for the guts pile, didnt feel like editing.
