Had a 10 minutes staring contest with him (with rifle shouldered) until he moved enough to provide a clear shot. When I pulled the trigger the butt of the rifle slipped off my vest and jerked the shot left. I ended up hitting him in the neck rather than center mass. He dropped instantly and kicked for about 30 seconds. Dressed out at around 120lbs. Winchester 94 in 30-30 with Hornady LeverEvolution 160gr XTP at about 35-40 yards with irons. That's the way to hunt old school! IMHO |

That's the way to hunt old school! IMHO I think so too, youngest in the group, with the oldest gun (by model at least, since there was a Mosin Nagant M44 in the woods too). The only way I could go more old school would have been to use flatnose rounds. ETA: obviously I could go with a flintlock or matchlock for more "old school", but I'll stay practical. |
