In Iraq we used to use plain old FRS radios for everyday comms on base and even tactical comms sometimes simply because the army couldn't supply us with anything useful. We were an armor battalion and of course we had secure comms on vehicles, but we weren't prepared to spend so much time on foot and had no equipment to support it. They finally made us relinquish the FRS radios because of the security risk. Talk about fun being in a firefight having no radio contact with the rest of your patrol and being spread out over a couple hundred meters having no clue what anyone else is doing. Lol funny to think that Baofengs would have been an improvement over what we had at the time.
