I've noticed on most of the EC Boxes I've seen the antenna connections appear to be BNC (female).

Is there a reason for that?  Both mobiles I have to install in the ECB have the 239 type jacks.  Most antennas I've seen utilize the 239 style as well.

Why BNC?

Where do you find surface mount BNC jacks for ECB builds?

Do you carry 239 to BNC or other couplers along in the box just in case you were to stumble over an antenna that does not match what you are rigged to use?

I just open the lid of the Pelican 1550 and screw the antenna directly into the back of the LDG IT-100 tuner.

But hey, that's just me.

I pack up my radio after every time I use it, everything gets taken apart.

running portable I have found the BNC connectors to be very nice esp when switching between the analyzer and radio when I adjust the antenna to a different band.

screwing and unscrewing the regular pl 259s isn't bad, but it gets annoying after a while.

There's a better option... a bulkhead mount BNC female that crimps on to RG-58 size cable.  Less space and takes a male/female connector pair out of the equation.

ETA
one thing i forgot to mention –– in a pinch, a BNC female mates with an N male –– great for field-expedient hook-ups.  if you look just above the green pliers pictured above, that's exactly what you see there.
