Armour Treet appears to be the same thing as Spam, at half the cost (almost exactly half at Wal-Mart). How does the taste and shelf life compare?
Shelf life is probably the same.
I think Spam tastes better than Treet. I don't like Treet. I suggest you try a can of each. |
I agree Spam tastes better than Treet. The canned "hams" like DAK and Brookdale are about the same as Spam but a little cheaper.
Treet has more carbs per serving than Spam.
As a guess, it probably uses more starch as a binder. I think Spam also tastes better and comes in more flavored varieties. |

A quick check of the ingredients..... they are not the same. DAK: Ham cured with water, salt, sugar. Spam: Pork with ham, salt, water, modified potato starch, sugar. hmmm, the Hot & Spicy Spam also has mechanically separated chicken. yummy. |

I much prefer Spam.
I just had the last can in my pantry. Expiration date was January 2008. It was still good. In fact it was very good. |
My Dad always liked treat better. He also liked vienna sausages.
Personally I like the Spam best. |
We like Treet best. My dad would never let Spam in the house, something about having to eat it 24/7 during WWII. Wifes dad was the same way but theirs was a cost issue, trying to feed a family of 8 kids you had to watch your dollars.
I prefer Spam to Treat. Treat does have more carbs I think. So I might pass it up on that basis alone.
DAK canned hams are pretty good too. There are several brands of canned corned beef I like as well. The stuff I get at Aldi is as good as any of them. |
The Kroger brand of meat is kinda tasty and is less salty than Spam. But I keep both.

If you REALLY want to go slumming, try a can of Prem™... Oh, my......"Luncheon loaf?"....."Baked Virginia Ham Seasoning?"......."Smoke Flavoring?" That is why I grow my own pork. Spam > Treet but I'll eat either. |
I stock both, but prefer SPAM; only stock TREET as it is cheaper...DAK for the win
I tried a can of Treet.
And I ended up feeding it to the feral cats that live under the house. |
I just tried some Treet, since it was cheaper than even the WM brand of spam.
think it's how you season it prior to stir frying, then adding to other stuff (rice, noodles, beans, ect) With the same ammount of prep, Spam is better; still tweaking what will make Treet better; need to find this magic bullet so I can start using it to save some $$$ the spicy Spam will light you up, so tread lightly (just spicy, not like pepper hot) |

Cheap and good. Don't add salt, the canned meat has more than enough. |
Spam sells a low sodium variety. Last can of spam I had was just to salty.
Spam and Treet are no way the same.
Spam is 10000% better. Bacon Spam, FTMFW |

Just made macaroni casserole with fried treat cubes in it as a test to see if it was worth buying more . I am not a fan but my dog loves it. I think I will stick with spam for the old food bunker.

My arteries are thickening just thinking about it! But, Spam is in another catagory.
SPAM sliced and fried
Coarse wheat bread Cheese Mustard Onions |
My wife makes an excellent spam quiche. I will have to see if she will make one for this upcoming weekend.
We just got through eating a nice meal of Spam fried rice. Was actually pretty decent. Its what happens when you plan a meal only to find your chicken meat has gone bad.

Spam
My best Friends Dad had a Salvage Business. In high school we went to truck accidents helped clean up. 1 was a Semi full of Hormel Products. 1 was a Semi of Groceries. A semi caught on fire with Jensen Speakers The undamaged speakers made us money The free Spam and Ramen Noodles and peanut butter I lived off for 2 years while going to College . That is what I ate Morning, noon and Night I still love Spam |
The lead singer in my band is nicknamed "Spam". His vanity plate on his car is "Spam". He spent 30 years in the army, ate a lot of Spam and he still loves it. He's also one of the healthiest people his age that I know. Gotta be somthing to it. I like the low sodium flavor myself. Baked whole with pinapple rings on top. Yummy!

Have not eaten Treet in many, many years. When it comes to Spam, I'm like the dog in the Beggin' Strips (bacon) commercial.
Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam.
Spam, by a long shot. You can fix Spam in so many ways it's not even funny
I bought a can of the Aldi store brand luncheon meat just to try. Happily it tasted quite like Spam and had the same texture, and costs less.
The one can of Treet we tried a couple years ago is the only one we'll ever buy. Pretty bad stuff. |

I love spam but treet The Walmart brand is pretty good to.
We make BLT's with fried spam in the middle it is pure WIN |
Fried treat, egg, and cheese sammiches! Like my treat just warmed not burned and the eggs fried over easy. An extra slice of bed for sopping it all up cause I ain't allowed to lick the plate. LOL
I prefer Spam to Treet, but my local Dollar Tree used to carry American Pride Bacon Grill and for $1 for 12oz it is the best stuff. Every bit as good as Spam in my book, I bought them out when they would stock it.
Spam omelette in the morning is very hard to beat for breakfast.
I've made Spam chili, Spam teriyaki stir-fry, Spam Monte Christo, plain-old pan-fried Spam (last night, in fact), Spam.... Ugh, I just realized I sound like Bubba from Bubba Gump shrimp. I tried Treet years ago, didn't like it, stuck with Spam. We also have a Dak ham around (if we didn't cook it recently, will have to check now). |
Me and the kids love spam fried crispy. We can easuily go through two cans in one meal. My 9 year old daughter likes it cold right out of the can.
Dak hams are awsome and on sale right now at Walgreens. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
