[ARCHIVED THREAD] - How to get Great Grandfather's records

My great grandfather is expected to pass in the very near future. He served in the Delaware Army National Guard, 198th Coastal Artillery in the late 1930's up until the beginning of WWII. He was discharged because he had a wife and child. My grandfather doesn't have any idea where his records may be. I'd like to get a copy so that honors can be rendered at his funeral. Any idea where these could be retrieved from? Thanks

There you go. I did this back when I was in college on my great uncle who died during World War 2. I need to find his paperwork, its somewhere in my items

Unfortunately, you may be out of luck. A fire at the St. Louis facility destroyed about 80% of Army records from 1912 to 1960. I was going to get my uncle's record of his Bronze Star from the Battle of the Bulge but am probably not going to be able to do so..

Incidentally, one of my father's uncles was in the Coastal Artillery in WW1 but never went overseas.

Might be some records at fold3.com

You can sign up for 7 days and quit before the trial period is up. I did. Then a couple of weeks later I signed up for a year sub.
