My county has already made the switch.  From the HK USP and P30 to Sig P320.  I curious about the changes other places are making.

I love the 320 in 9mm.  Agency went from .40 cal Glocks to .45 about seven years ago.

We switched two years ago from 13 year old HK USP 45s to G17s with SF X300Us in Safariland ALS holsters.  Qual scores went up.  Issue ammo is 147 gr Federal HST standard pressure or Hornady 135 gr. Critical Duty.

We still allow 9mm, 357 Sig, 40, or 45. Two still carry 357 Magnums.

I don't see us changing at all in the near or distant future.

Dept went from Sig 229's in .40 to Glock 17's for issue guns.  Don't care for the way the Glock sits in my hand and it hammers the base joint of my thumb with each shot, hence why I never owned one.  I carry an M&P in .45.

My dept has been issuing Glock 19s for years now.  All are 4th gen.

We went the other direction about 5 years ago.  Went from .40 to .45.

We went from 9mm to.40 3 years ago. Don't see us going back any time soon.

Our department hasn't changed duty guns since we switched over from revolvers to G22s, I can't forsee any change anytime soon . Even now we have a restricted list of backup guns we can carry that hasn't really been modified since the early 2000's with exception of the shield and they broadened the list for all 9 and 40 cal glocks.

So off duty I carry a 9mm Glock, but its a shame because I shoot the FNS and P320 better by a wide margin.

The PD for the university I work for switched a couple years ago, staying with the M&P.  The local PD finally cycled out their 229s in 40 for 320s but stayed with 40 cal.  The sheriff's office is still 229/40 but are "thinking" about switching.

Switch from 3rd gen 9mm smiths years back (before I was employed at the dept) to G21. Got new Gen 4 21s a bit ago so I don't see us transitioning

We switched from G17s to P2000s (.40) in 2005 (phased rollout over four or five years).  There's rumors of testing new 9mm ammo, but I'm not holding my breath for a new gun anytime soon.  Apparently we still have 10k new P2000s waiting to be issued to new officers or as replacements.

No.  But I'll be tickled pink if/when they do.  

Really jealous of those Loudoun deputies and their new Sigs. Damn Glock 23 is old as dirt.

We went from Gen3 Glock 22's to Gen4 Glock 21's cause we have the dumb.

What don't you like about the 21? Honest question, I carried a G22 at my old agency and was pretty happy when I was issued a 21 at my current agency

We're considering it. I'm fine either way... staying with my G35 or going with the G34. I have both personally and enjoy both.

From XD45 to 320 in 9mm

No, but I wish we would.  We carry a mixture ofG22s and G35s.  Several years ago we considered switching to 10mm and there are still a few G20s floating around from that trial period.

We are in the process of switching from G22 to G17 this month.

Moving to Gen4 22's  we can only afford what is being phased out. lol

We are transitioning from Sig P220 .45 to the Glock 17.  Should have been done years ago.

And Loudoun is what I'm talking about.   No problem buying whatever equipment they want, but forget about full manning.

We can only carry a .40 if it was grandfathered. We cant go out and buy one now and carry it.

Its 9mm or .45 . But a lot of platforms are approved.

We have authorized 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP as duty rounds at the dept. level for many years.  On a larger basis, we have seen a gradual shift away from the .40 to the 9mm at the State Academy level with more and more agencies in the last year or so.

G22 is issued here, but I carry either a Kimber, or S.A. 1911. Our policy is  changing soon to allow Deputies to carry guns of their choosing. Within reason of course.

I like the 21 fine, I would just prefer the a 17. I think the benefits of the 9mm outweigh the 45.

I wish we could carry what we wanted but uniform can only carry issued weapon.  In the spring we are switching from G22 to the G17M.

Currently in the transition phase from MP40 to MP9..

We went from the Sig 220 to the 226 in 9mm.  I loved my .45 but the extra ammo on the belt is nice.  With the decent choices in 9mm out there now I don't feel "undergunned" with 9mm.

Glock 22 gen 4's with Trijicon RMR.  No plans to switch that I'm aware of.

Up till the last few years, our handgun policy was pretty decent. You could carry whatever you wanted, within reason and complying with policy (basically, no SAO, no Magnum calibers, minimum .38/9mm for duty and .380 for backup/off duty, reputable manufacturer and approved by one of the Instructors). If you wanted an issued gun, you could get one. Issued guns were varied over the years- old 1st Gen G17, S&W M5906, Beretta 92FS. Most carried some sort of 9mm, mostly Glocks with a couple Sig P226s thrown in. I was the only real oddball and carried a 2nd Gen G21.

A few years ago, we got a new Chief who wanted standardized duty guns. I lobbied HARD for 9mm but was outvoted by the rest, who FELT (muh feelz!!!11!!!) that .40 was better. Didn't matter what testing I showed them, .40 is better and that is that. We ended up with Gen4 G22s. His reasoning was for ammo compatibility and the fact that if another Officer shoots himself dry, responding Officers could give them a magazine. EVERYONE told him that they weren't giving away ammo, which made me laugh because that was my opinion- if you have shot off 3 mags worth and haven't solved the problem, I sure as hell am not giving you some of mine! He didn't change his mind, though.

Fast forward a year or so and we got another new Chief, who went back to the policy of personally owned guns if you wanted. Most kept the issued G22. I switched to my 3rd Gan G19. The new Chief switched to his old, early 2nd Gen G17. Although we don't have the money to switch issued duty guns, he has said that if he can ever come up with the cash, we will switch back to 9mm issued guns, either G17 or G19, whichever the Officer wants.

As long as you go with good duty ammo, there really isn't much difference between 9mm, .40 and .45, although I'm preaching to the choir here. 9mm ammo of today isn't the 9mm ammo of 10-15 years ago. With good ammo, 9mm, .40, and .45 all expand to at least .55-.6" and they all penetrate between the FBI standard 12-18". With 9mm, you gain a few more rounds in the magazine, practice ammo is cheaper, less recoil for quicker follow up shots, easier on the guns, etc etc etc. From a performance standpoint, there really isn't much reason to go with .40 or .45 anymore.

Lol no! We just standardized the transition from .38 Spl to .40 S&W for most officers and new hires. I wish they would wake up and transition again to 9mm but that won't happen for another 10 years I'm sure.

We went from G22 to the Sig P220.  I suggested a 9mm or 45 acp and the Chief said no to the 9mm.  So it was 45.  We now have an Officer with smaller hands and the P220 is too big.  They are willing to practice a little more, but the fit is not right.  I am looking to find a deal (black friday maybe) on P320 in 9mm and present my case again.  I carry a Sig 1911 at my part-time agency.

As  stated earlier, 1911 here, and a Deputy in a neighboring county as well. I expect to see 3 or 4 more when the new policy takes effect.

Never issued .40. Went from .38/.357 to 9mm/.45.

Yeah, in June I had to turn in my G23 for a G19. I was able to at least get a G17.

I miss my .40 S&W for work.

They didn't offer a personal purchase program? I never understood the guys that carried something for years, relying on it to save their lives, then don't bat an eye when they turn it in and have been given the option to purchase it.

They did.... at $370. I can get new Glocks for $398. So I passed. Also the G23/G19 frame never fit me right. When I worked uniform I carried a G22. I have my personal .40 S&W and carry them off duty.

 

I started out with a Baretta 96 in 40 then went to a USP in 40. I never liked the caliber. After I got the firearms instructor job I switched us out to Glock 31 in 357. We then went to Sig 226 in 357 and now Sig 320 in 357.  My Chief said no to a 9mm and 45 so we went with about only thing available. Off duty I carry a Glock 32. The best part of switching guns is being able to buy our old pistols cheap. I bought my Glock for $175 & SIG 226 for $200.

yep,  we went from Sig 229 DAK. 40 cal.  to Sig 320 9mm. A great change!

I expect the change to come within the next year.  Agency instructors have been pushing for it.  Take aging Glock 23s and 22s combined with negligent Ballistic differences and cheaper ammo, add rookies struggling to qual in the academy and in service and you get 9mm Glocks as the new issue.



You'll still be able to carry whatever duty caliber sidearm you want but the new issue will be a 9mm Glock.



I carry a 2011.

Doubt we ever will switch calibers in whatever length of time remains in my career.
Pretty much every agency here is on the 40 bandwagon except for the staties.

About 4 years ago we went from Glock 22's in .40 to Sig 220's in .45

Local PD did the same here a couple years ago. Went from the 9mm Glock 17 to the .40 Glock 22.

We never went to 40.   We've had SIG 226 9MM since the mid 80s

It was not an uncommon transition for agencies around here back in the 90s.
As for laughing all the way to the bank, when an agency would look at replacing stuff like night sights agency-wide, some of the deals that Glock would offer made sense to switch to new guns rather than keep the older guns in service. particularly during the federal ban years when everyone was looking to get their hands on pre-ban mags that were still in service with police agencies.

My agency started to issue handguns about 5 years ago. They chose the Sig 229r  in .40with no input from patrol for the most part. We used to be able to carry almost anything under the old policy. Then our chief went to an ALERT training school and had an idea.We are finally getting rid of them and getting Glock Gen4 model 22's. Officers were having difficulty with the DA/SA transition with the Sig's which in turn causes accuracy to suffer and lose confidence in their issued gun.  Most of the area academies use Glocks so we are finally getting with the program.
