Customer was interested in buying a .50 BMG upper for his AR-15, so I brought my rifle in to the shop to show him what one looked like etc.  However I got bored and decided to make my own "in store" display.

Last year I took a chunk of scrap brass and turned it on my lathe and made my own wildcat...sort of..  I turned a cartridge about 1.00 in diameter and necked down to accept a 5.7mm bullet from a 5.7 FHN round.  I called my new creation the 5.7 Xpress and put it on a shelf at the gun shop and forgot about it...until today.

I made my store display with the 50 rifle and the "5.7 cartridge" and put up a sign announcing the new 5.7 Xpress Rifle and Cartridge.  It has made several customers stop and stare, along with an occasional DAAAAaaaaaayummmm or What the....?

That is perfect "gun shop navy seal" bait.

I am sure eventually, someone will tell you that they have heard of that before.

Pretty neat though.

Your rifling would last about 5 shots, just in time for you to get it sighted in

Only 7500 FPS??? I have a big ranch- does that come in a +P loading or magnum load???

I bet that would fire on the primer alone and actually be functional, without having to worry about pressure spikes and such.

Back in '91we used that same round to make headshots on Iraqi Republican Guards from 5 miles away.  You know us Special Forces dudes had the black ops ammo back then that's just becoming available to the general public right now...

I once set a 50BMG bullet in a 50AE case.  Not quite as extreme, but its always fun to screw with people.

Wonder what the muzzle velocity would be and how far that little thing would fly with that much motivation behind it.

I like it.
If I am not mistaken...didn't JD Jones neck down a .50 BMG case to a .22 back in the 70's?  I think it was called the "Earscplittenloudenboomer", although I may be mistaken.

IF I recall correctly, they had trouble getting over 5200 fps with it, which has been done with the .22-.243 Middlestead.
ETA:  It was P.O. Ackley that made the .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer, and it was a .378 Weatherby Mag case necked down to .22.

If a .50 BMG can shoot down Planes, you can probably use that to snipe at combatants on the Moon.......

ill give you a dollar to fill that case with powder and prime it up and shoot that round out the barrel.  you must videotape and have someone post the results here.

"Authorities have noticed an increase in high-caliber weapons in Los Angeles. One of the most startling incidents was when a Fabrique National 57, an assault pistol used to kill big game, was found in a victim's car by detectives investigating a double-homicide last year in North Hollywood.

"You use it on large lions, tigers and bears," said LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore, commander of the Valley Bureau."

The NEW 5.7 Xpress. LAPD certified for xtreme lions, xtreme tigers, and xtreme bears.
